Chapter 1346 - Chapter 1346 Chapter 1346 Sudden Change
Chapter 1346: Chapter 1346: Sudden Change Chapter 1346: Chapter 1346: Sudden Change “System, evaluation of the large-scale secret realm exploration is underway.”
“System, a five-person team completed a large-scale secret realm intended for thousands, evaluation SSS.”
“System, evaluation SSS, you may choose one out of three rewards: substantial experience, sacrifice blood essence, or personal glory points.”
Li Yao thought for a moment, he wanted to maintain his current level. After calculating, even with the experience from this mission, it wasn’t quite enough for him to level up.
He didn’t want to rush to level fifty-four; his attributes were already too strong, and if he leveled up, the difficulty of the main storyline instances would increase correspondingly–too much for his team to handle.
As for personal glory points, Li Yao had already obtained plenty and never used any up to now. So, it wasn’t essential, and he’d certainly have enough for future needs.
Thus, Li Yao chose the sacrifice blood essence directly; such an item was absolutely precious, even to gods–a scarce resource regardless of the quantity available.
“What did you choose?” asked Edward.
“Sacrifice blood essence, and you?” Li Yao counter-asked.
“I chose experience,” Edward replied.
Li Yao nodded and began looking for a way out.
“Aren’t you going to ask why?”
As Li Yao searched for mechanisms, he said, “What’s so strange about that? You’ve made it to first in the level rankings, but the fierce competition has only just begun. Everyone realizes how difficult it is for me to level up–why wouldn’t they strive with all their might?”
Edward sighed, “Yeah, you were once an insurmountable mountain. Now that the super boss-leveling difficulty has held you back, and I’ve overtaken by chance, there are plenty envious of my rank. The leaderboard will likely go crazy, and I’m not confident I can maintain the top spot. But since I’m here, I’ll try to hold it for as long as I can.”
Li Yao nodded, “That makes sense, but I don’t rate your chances. Not because maintaining your position is challenging, but because you have too many other commitments. You can’t just ignore everything else for the sake of leveling.”
“You’re one to talk–lose faith in me, and I’ll just have to try harder,” Edward remarked somewhat irritably upon Li Yao’s blunt words.
“That’s different. The safest bet would be to find someone from your guild’s leveling fanatics to take your place,” suggested Li Yao.
“I know, it was just a thought. I wish I could focus purely on the game. It’s been like a vacation playing here, it almost feels like truly gaming again. But when I go back…” Edward’s eyes flashed with nostalgia, clearly not for Li Yao but rather for the simpler times amid his numerous responsibilities: “I envy you, having so many reliable allies, allowing you to be the carefree boss.”
Li Yao just smiled in response. Starfire’s success wasn’t a one-person achievement, not even a reborn person like himself could manage alone. It had been a stroke of luck to encounter many like-minded friends this time around.
Finally, Li Yao discovered a cryptic lock and swiftly unlocked it–a Light Gate appeared, and the group finally escaped the large secret realm.
“Are you sure you don’t own this game? Such a difficult puzzle, and you solved it so quickly–are you even human?” Edward was flabbergasted; Li Yao had unlocked it before he could even comprehend the mechanism.
“Purely luck,” Li Yao observed his surroundings and determined their location.
“It seems we’ve been transported far, likely to another desolate area’s edge. That Lion Scorpion Goddess is truly cunning,” Edward also noted the change in their position.
“It’s hard to say. Who knows how far that portal transferred us, and it seemed to be one-way. But there’s no need to investigate further–coordinates and such don’t concern us,” Li Yao summoned the Hell Battle Scorpion and Flash appeared directly on its back: “Alright, let’s head back. We’ve spent a lot of time; I wonder how the beast tamer and the others are doing.”
The Hell Battle Scorpion sped towards the city, and after more than three hours, they returned to the agreed-upon inn.
Li Yao started to search for related posts, but while there were many, there was little of value.
After submitting the mission at the Fluff Hall, Li Yao remained slightly short of the vitality he needed, while Edward leveled up once more, reaching level fifty-five.
“You should probably stop there–if you level up again, you’ll likely be excluded from the main storyline instances,” Li Yao warned.
“I know, but there’s nothing I can do even if I can’t explore the storyline instances anymore,” Edward said helplessly: “As long as the leaderboard lasts even a day, it’s worth it.”
Li Yao nodded. After all, Edward was a guild chairman–Li Yao couldn’t presume his words would change another person’s mind: “It looks like the beast tamer and company haven’t returned; we can only wait. By the way, do you know who this beast tamer is? Very mysterious.”
Edward chuckled, “I initially thought it was a certain expert from that team, but I ruled that out. No one can summon such powerful pets like that–clearly, it’s a seasoned professional player, someone trained. It must be one of those strong players who retired from our previous generation. As to who specifically, I have my guesses, but I’d rather not speculate without being sure. There are a few contenders.”
“That makes sense. Those who retired still have their skills, and it was only because of the previous game’s physical limitations that age impacted performance. But that doesn’t apply to the ancient gods, so it’s no surprise they can still outperform current players after some readjustment,” Li Yao agreed.
“Yup, it’s truly regrettable. The game came too late for them, and they retired too early. It’s irreversible–if they could come back now, those mediocrities wouldn’t have their current status, especially for those in China. It’s a pity,” Edward said, noting that once over a specific retirement period without competition, a reversal isn’t allowed. One can’t just retire or play again on a whim–that would be too frivolous.
The day agreed for the beast tamer and the others to return came and went with no sign of them. Nearly a day later, the beast tamer appeared at the inn with a severely injured barbarian warrior enshrouded in green light, vitality rapidly draining as if he could perish at any moment. If it weren’t for the Life Potion sustaining him, he would have been gone already.
“What’s happened, where’s Green Horn?” Edward inquired.
The beast tamer looked drained and exhausted: “It was nearly a total wipeout. Green Horn led the enemy away while I brought this one back to deliver the news. We need a plan fast–he won’t last much longer, and soon the Life Potions won’t be enough.”…
