Caught in a private chat with Tuntun and the others, Li Yao hurriedly responded courteously when he heard the Chieftain bring up his name, “You flatter me, Your Excellency. It’s just trifling issues, hardly worth mentioning.”

Cain was gnawing on a juicy roasted leg and said roughly, “Modest for what? Li Yao replied with a wry smile, “Chieftain, you’re aware of my situation. Just managing the few Starfire outposts and the plains I’ve conquered keeps me busy, not to mention constantly needing to improve my own strength. I hardly have the energy to manage a camp.”

The Countess, sitting beside Li Yao, chimed in, “Hey, that’s not right. As far as I know, you excel at delegation. Whether it’s your privately conquered cities or guild outposts, you’ve placed the right people in charge. You’ve always been the type to hand off responsibilities without concerns.”

The crowd erupted in laughter, all wearing smiles of good nature.

“I see, it’s my oversight, not highlighting General Li Yuan’s skill in delegation,” the Chieftain said with a smile.

“Come on, are you all ganging up to tease me?” Li Yao said with a look of frustration. “Seriously, hands-on management is not my forte. Even overseeing the big picture is a stretch for me. In my opinion, personal strength comes first.”

The Queen nodded curtly, “Good to know you have that understanding. But you’re only Rank Five now, too weak.”

The High Elf Regent shook his head slightly, “Let it be. I was going to give Prairie Fire more responsibility, but since the General believes that improving his strength is the priority, let’s have someone else take care of that.”

“You wanted him to be responsible for forming the High Elf Ranger troops. I can understand your sentiments, but he’s not ready yet,” the Queen interjected.

The Chieftain did not meddle in the High Elves’ internal affairs. While he could show concern, every Race had the right to self-governance, and as the former supreme commander of the High Elves, the Queen had the authority to speak on the matter.

“If that’s the case, Prairie Fire, you should continue to learn. Over the next few days, get to know the old foxes of our faction. You’ve also performed well today, composed and steady, not losing your standards over guild matters. Keep up the good work. When you reach Rank Six, more important tasks will naturally be entrusted to you.”

“I understand,” Li Yao raised his glass again in acknowledgment.

By midnight, the Starfire members had returned to their posts via Hearthstone, but Li Yao stayed back as the real meetings would begin tomorrow.

Over the next three days, Starfire truly participated in the Dark Camp’s meetings, where economic reports and development plans gave Li Yao a real understanding of the terrifying resources a faction could mobilize.

Despite the Dark Camp’s resource scarcity, the resources they could mobilize were still immensely formidable. While Starfire was thriving, Li Yao couldn’t help but feel complacent; however, after a full comparison, he realized the combined resources of all Starfire cities didn’t even amount to a tenth of a main city, making him feel as if he was viewing the sky from the bottom of a well.

During the three days, Li Yao also got acquainted with the other second-generation members permitted to attend the meetings. The inevitable sparring took place, and even though Li Yao was significantly less powerful attribute-wise, his combat skills earned their respect, and thus he was accepted into their circle.

On the last day of the meetings, the Countess sat next to Li Yao. Watching the Chieftain make his final summary as the meeting came to a close, she said softly, “General Prairie Fire, I need to ask a favor of you, if you’re willing?”

Li Yao was surprised and replied, “If a beauty like yourself asks for my help, of course, I’ll oblige. Is it that your family sees you’re not getting any younger and still single, so they want me to pretend to be your boyfriend? I’m totally up for it, even if it means acting turns real.”

The Countess glared at Li Yao, “Can you be serious? I’m talking about a matter of importance.”

Li Yao’s smile receded, “With a bounty of elites in your Race and your family’s prestige, what is it that you need my help with? Aside from what I just mentioned, I can’t think of anything else I could assist you with.”

The Countess asked seriously, “You’re familiar with the Witherbark and the fallen elves, right?”

The Sunwell has been contaminated, the Undead Army has breached the Capital, these are deep-seated enmities.
