Chapter 1278 - Chapter 1278 Chapter 1278 Air Force
Chapter 1278: Chapter 1278: Air Force Chapter 1278: Chapter 1278: Air Force As the United Army landed frantically, more and more cannon ports on the walls of Starfire City were opened, and the booming of the cannons, initially sporadic, gradually became continuous until they merged into a relentless barrage.
Each burst of fire represented the ascension of numerous Goblin Eaters and Abominations, the outer harbor originally thought to be destroyed by explosives was in even greater disarray.
A major broadcaster strapped himself onto a Gryphon, broadcasting the scene below, looked at the brutal battlefield and said helplessly, “Starfire indeed has deep pockets; this is excessively lavish. The outer harbor has been bombed beyond recognition, now with thousands of cannons firing simultaneously, and these are tier five weapons. Although cheaper than tier six, these artillery shells must cost quite a few silver coins each, it seems Starfire intends to crush the attacking United Army with gold coins.”
The knowledgeable audience watched with their hearts pounding; it was overly extravagant, an unusual way to wage war. However, players familiar with Starfire were not surprised, as Starfire has always been like this, never shying away from using power to oppress others, having done so on many occasions in the past.
With the escalation of the battle, more and more spectators joined to watch the guild war of Starfire, drawn particularly because this time Li Yao represented humanity and other alien races in battle, and achieved victory despite the odds.
Thus, whether human players or alien players, knowing that Starfire was facing a siege, more and more people joined to watch this battle, unless they were tied up in pioneering new game areas or otherwise unavoidably detained.
The United Army’s rogues also reached the middle of the outer harbor and began summoning legions, intensifying the battle.
The Goblin Eaters and Hate Legion in the outer harbor could hardly form any scale, as any slight organization would be met with covering fire from the cannons in that area.
It was simply impossible to achieve victory by these means unless they waited until Starfire ran out of ammunition, but the United Army would not expect a guild obsessed with engineering like Starfire to lack artillery shells.
“Vice president, quickly look at the Mango Guild’s ship.” a Hunter applying the Eagle Eye Technique to observe the opposing warships hurriedly ran to Sister Li’s side and spoke.
Sister Li hastily took the binoculars handed to her and immediately saw many people preparing something on the Mango Guild’s ship.
“Vice president, is this a launcher? It seems a bit different from ours,” the Hunter hesitated.
Sister Li nodded, “Definitely, see, all these people are equipped with gliders behind them. Keep observing.”
“Yes.” The Hunter continued to climb the watchtower and activated the Eagle Eye Technique to search for useful information.
“Phantom, what do you think?” Sister Li asked a female player shrouded in a robe beside her.
Phantom was the chief staff officer of the staff group that Sister Li had formed. They were not responsible for specific tasks, but each had their own area of expertise or specialty, serving as consultants for Sister Li in handling various matters, as the wisdom of one person is limited.
Their role was to provide information in their areas of expertise and propose corresponding solutions, especially as Starfire grew more massive and Sister Li became increasingly overextended, leading her to the idea of forming a staff group. Though it was not yet fully robust, it was taking shape.
There were experts in finance, data analysis, planning, market trends, and even research on ancient god historical materials, and Phantom specialized in war simulation and strategic planning, a true Think Tank.
Starfire had Li Yao and the enchantress, their splendor too dazzling, and Phantom usually had no place to play a part.
“Glider projection, that’s a tactic developed by Starfire itself. Those people trying to use it against us are simply bringing an axe to a woodworking class. The vice president doesn’t need to show any cards. Although the president didn’t say it, I assume, this tactic is just a substitute found when there was no air force, aimed at the enemies of that time without ways to deal with air forces. But everything evolves, using this tactic now would just be laughable,” Phantom said in a slightly hoarse voice.
“Speaking of guesses, you hadn’t joined the guild back then. What the president said about this tactic and what you mentioned are pretty similar. Today, gliders are just necessary tools to prevent death from high falls and are outdated in war. So, what is your simple method?” Sister Li continued, “I estimate in about three more minutes, they will start their projection.”
“It’s quite simple, don’t forget our guild’s collective treasure.”
Phantom pointed with a finger, and specks of light converged rapidly, forming a phantom of a dragon hatchling that began to dance around Phantom.
Sister Li immediately showed a smile and bowed her head to start issuing commands.
The United Army’s fleet had prepared many machines similar to stone throwers, but what they launched wasn’t artillery shells, and given the distance, the ship’s stone throwers couldn’t possibly attack the city walls.
What they launched were players wearing odd backpacks.
“Air force, take off. I don’t care much about your kills, but you must tie down the enemy’s air force,” the Swordmaster commanded.
Speaking of air force, in reality, it was just the Hunter’s pets and a few gargoyles.
At this stage, the air legion was far too scarce, not because of the type of troops, but due to limited means of acquisition and the huge costs involved.
Air troops were incredibly rare, with the only widely accessible ones being the Undead series’ gargoyles, which were comparatively expensive to produce and hard for regular players to afford, only some guilds would purchase a few.
Even regular air forces were hard to obtain, for example, the two-legged dragons controlled by the Dark Camp and the Gryphons, regular air force of the Light Faction, were very difficult to obtain.
Of course, there are many race-specific air forces, such as the high elves’ Dragon Eagles, which are magical creature Warcraft even harder to find, and the Ancient Elves’ hippogriff equally formidable, but without a great Druid’s blessing, they were nearly impossible to tame.
Only players who were lucky enough to complete special tasks could obtain some, and the taming of falcons was feasible for Starfire only after it reached a certain scale. Other guilds merely did so sporadically, barely impacting, let alone forming a legion.
Recently, players most hoped to find a Falcon King, trying to control an air force by taming it, but falcons mostly dispersed and didn’t flock together, foiling the players’ plans.
Additionally, without aerial riding skills, what players now referred to as the air force was essentially just the air pets summoned by Hunters. This was also a reason why some guilds accepted hunters, their most classic slogan being, “xx Guild is recruiting one air force member, can be accompanied by a human pet.” Owning an air pet, especially a good one, is now many hunters’ dream.
About five thousand air pets from the two guilds took off, but it was too mixed, including owls, large parrots, hawks, chimeras, Void rays, mana drakes, Wind Snakes, and so on; a complete chaotic mess…
