Chapter 1272 - Chapter 1272 Chapter 1272 Chaos of Battle
Chapter 1272: Chapter 1272: Chaos of Battle Chapter 1272: Chapter 1272: Chaos of Battle Li Yao was still riding the wave of fame from the recent competition when Starfire got swept into the midst of a great war, and at a time when the Starfire Core Group was absent.
As news of the battle spread, more and more people began to pay attention to the conflict.
Many guilds, particularly, were keen to find out if Starfire was truly vulnerable without Li Yao and their Core Group.
Yet, so far in the battle, Starfire’s performance could be described as stunning. Whether it was the underwater warfare or the assassins’ surprise attacks, they had won against stronger foes with minimal casualties.
Moreover, without Li Yao and the core members, Starfire didn’t flounder; instead, they proceeded with their operations methodically and with high morale, just as before.
The United Army of four guilds had expended great efforts to accelerate their march, hoping to catch Starfire off guard and unable to react in time.
However, the rapid return of the Starfire fleet and the interception by the assassin group had put Spark Station on full alert, virtually nullifying the surprise attack. Instead, Starfire’s forces were well-prepared and ready for the enemy.
Both Sandy Harbor and the walls facing the land were a display of readiness, with colorful banners fluttering and numerous Starfire troops poised for battle, ready to face the approaching enemy at any moment.
While the actual combat strength was unknown, the rapidity of their response was nothing short of astonishing.
Many people launched three live streams to fully grasp the scope of the battle:
One for the Starfire Core Group’s competition, another for Sandy Harbor, and a third for the frontal walls.
“If Starfire wins this battle, no guild will underestimate them again, and Starfire will truly rise,” was the shared sentiment.
This battle was about whether Starfire could be acknowledged and taken seriously by the powerful guilds.
Although Starfire was currently thriving, the general impression was that on one hand, they had attracted a multitude of elite players with Li Yao’s fame, and on the other, they were very wealthy.
To many, a guild rapidly assembled through wealth and reputation like Starfire lacked cohesion and combat strength. Having numerous elites could be more of a curse than a blessing as pride could prevent them from truly respecting each other, potentially inflaming internal conflicts.
This type of discord was particularly deadly for new guilds, and so far, Starfire had merely been riding on Li Yao’s continuous success and their abundance of Gold Coin, barely maintaining cohesion.
Should a day come when Li Yao faced setbacks or Starfire’s funding ran dry, the guild would collapse like a sandcastle.
This joint surprise attack by the four major guilds, timed during the absence of Li Yao and his team, was an excellent opportunity to gauge Starfire’s strength.
If they overcame this challenge, Starfire would truly unite into a formidable force; if they crumbled, Starfire would struggle to recover.
Under the gaze of countless onlookers, the battle raged on.
The United Army released a plethora of terrifying man-eating fish and creatures capable of Corrosion on the bottoms of ships.
Starfire deployed their water specter units. In the ocean, the true intelligent beings were the nagas and the Murlocs. Frogmen could only live in coastal areas and were amphibious.
Leading the charge, the head naga sounded an underwater horn, crafting it from the teeth or antlers of sea monsters, which emitted a unique sound wave through the water. The sound was undetectable to humans and other intelligent beings but could be heard by aquatic life and traveled great distances.
In fact, sea monsters had already been summoned at the first news of the impending battle; this sounding of the horn was merely the signal to attack.
With the sound of the horn, a huge dark shadow emerged from under the water. As Li Yao advanced to Rank 5, the sea monster also became much larger, turning into a real sea behemoth.
The target of the sea monster was not the fish and other creatures underwater but rather the enemy’s warship. A few other sea monsters, much smaller than it, followed behind.
“Quick, the Lightning Harpoon.”
Upon seeing the shadow in the water, the Chairman of the Mangrove Guild hurriedly ordered.
“What of the great sea monster? Now that its tactics are exposed, they can no longer serve as a trump card. Even Starfire doesn’t understand this simple logic.”
One by one, harpoons crackling with electricity were dropped into the water. As the sea monster burst out of the water, its body was covered with a mass of electrical light, along with agonized screams of pain.
However, the sea monster wasn’t an easy foe, after all, given its colossal size; it still managed to destroy the ships.
The sea monster’s body was covered in charred marks, and although it had destroyed several ships, a few of the sea monsters were now severely wounded.
“How about that? Although we’ve suffered quite a few losses, taking down this creature is all worth it.”
The sea monster let out a roar underwater; then, the sea creatures abandoned their attack on the ships and started to open their mouths wide, frantically gulping down seawater. Piranhas were directly sucked into their mouths.
Even though the piranhas’ teeth were sharp, they couldn’t breach the sea monster’s defenses.
As the sea monsters continued to devour piranhas and other creatures, the wounds on their bodies gradually healed.
Meanwhile, Starfire’s amphibious troops had formed a defensive line and did not chaotically rush in.
Once underwater, everyone took out their ranged weapons, including special underwater hunting rifles and water crossbows. Both bullets and crossbow arrows were designed for use in water.
Ordinary bullets and arrows would perform poorly underwater, even having little to no effect; Starfire had spent a fortune to equip the maritime unit. Although not everyone could be armed with firearms suitable for underwater warfare, at least the standard members of the amphibious troops were equipped with water crossbows.
Puff, puff, puff, puff…
As volleys of fire streaked through the water, it quickly turned blood-red; both sides commenced a fierce battle.
“It’s been so long, we can hardly hold off with our ships; what exactly is happening below?” The leader of another guild was growing impatient.
The Mangrove Guild’s Chairman laughed confidently and said, “Piranhas have never been disappointing. The blood down there is surely that of their Navy. The enemy’s sea monsters have been–”
Before he could finish his statement, the sea behemoth burst out from another guild’s fleet. Within moments, several warships were destroyed, and a multitude of players fell into the water.
At the same time, dragon roars echoed from the sky. The Black Dragon Queen had also joined the battleground. With a breath of Dragon Breath, a warship was engulfed in flames, and many players jumped into the water.
Piranhas did not discriminate between friend and foe; upon seeing players in the water, nearby piranhas naturally swarmed towards them, making the seascape even more chaotic.
The Black Dragon Queen had strengthened tremendously after advancing to Rank 5, at least with many more Dragon Language Magic spells at her disposal. A single spell could destroy a part of a warship, causing it to sink.
In just a moment, several warships were ablaze with dense flames, and a large number of players were forced to leap into the sea, turning unintentionally into meals for the piranhas, as their agonized screams pervaded the sea’s surface…
