Chapter 1264 - Chapter 1264 Chapter 1264 Starting Out
Chapter 1264: Chapter 1264: Starting Out Chapter 1264: Chapter 1264: Starting Out Entering the fortress provided a brief preparation period to allocate attribute enhancements and protect intelligence agents, among other matters.
“Who wants to be the Chieftain?” Li Yao asked.
Tongtong immediately raised his hand, “Me, me! The Marshal-level buff is so strong, I want to try it.”
Li Yao thought for a moment and said, “Being the Chieftain means you can’t leave the Chieftain Hall, which is quite boring.”
“No problem, when they attack our hall, I’ll turn the tides with my strength.” Tongtong’s eyes sparkled as he claimed.
“Alright then, anyone else?” Li Yao asked again.
Although many wanted to experience the role, no one had the heart to compete with a child for it.
“Okay, Tongtong is the Chieftain then.” Li Yao thought for a while and said, “I’ll decide on the three Generals. Guardian, you have high defense so you’ll be the General protecting the hall, making full use of your abilities. Tianxiang, you’ll be the General of the Inner City, mainly to facilitate healing. Without a powerful healer, we’d be in for a rough time. Then there’s the General of the Outer City, Fruits, you’re in charge of leading some colonels in attacking the enemy fortress.”
Li Yao then assigned the veteran players as colonels, with the remaining majority of colonels being determined by the rest of the members through a dice roll.
“Boss, all the buffed positions have been sent out, are you and the Vice President going to be soldiers?” Mu Zi asked.
Li Yao shook his head and said, “The walls of this kind of fortress are extremely fragile, almost as if they don’t exist. The decision of victory or defeat lies with the colonels and the generals, so we basically can’t allocate engineering roles. As for the Vice President, Shadow Dance, and myself, we’ll be Scouts, responsible for hunting down intelligence agents and obtaining information about the enemy’s colonels and generals. Our side will need to arrange protection for the Scouts, as we’re in charge of assassinations while Fruits will need to lead the charge.”
“Understood, our people are not to be trifled with.” Guardian Angel agreed, “As the randomly assigned intelligence agents reveal your patrol locations, I’ll arrange for their protection.”
Those assigned as intelligence agents promptly disclosed their system-assigned patrol locations, and Guardian Angel began making arrangements.
Li Yao, the Vice President, and Shadow Dance moved to the walls of the Outer City, and Li Yao observed the terrain and said, “Vice President, you take care of the left side. There are many bushes there that can provide cover, allowing you to covertly enter the enemy’s fortress. I’ll take the middle to find their intelligence agent, and Shadow Dance will take care of the right.”
Time passed quickly, and as a horn sounded, the battle had already begun.
The fight started with the Vice President already vanishing into the bushes beneath the city walls. From the start of the battle, all private chats were disabled, and the battle channel was out of use, leaving communication to shouting or messengers.
This meant that once Li Yao and his teammates went outside the city, if they died, those inside would be none the wiser. The same was true for those out of sight or assassinated.
Li Yao didn’t rush to shadow-cloak into the enemy’s fortress but instead repeatedly fired Sonic Exploding Arrows from a hidden corner.
Within three minutes, Li Yao’s arrows revealed a red figure, a novice leader-level rogue, crouching and quickly charging toward this side’s fortress.
“Newbies are still newbies, trying to find a hiding spot even when cloaked to show off their high rank,” Li Yao thought as he drew his bow at a corner of the wall. As the enemy Scout was darting towards another tree and out of sight of the city wall’s soldiers, Li Yao suddenly released his fingers.
The opposition’s Scout, intending to dash behind another tree, had no clue that an Infinite Range Arrow would be shot at him.
The Scout, lacking rank attribute bonuses, was pierced through the throat by the arrow and collapsed to the ground.
He was immediately teleported out, leaving the Scout baffled, “Why was I teleported out?”
The rest of the Troll Tribe were speechless, then pointed to where Li Yao was hiding and said, “There you are, trying to be stealthy, only to be instantly killed.”
The Scout was speechless, “How can one even guard against this? It’s impossible to prevent. I just hope the other two Scouts are okay.”
Of course, everyone else was hoping the other two Scouts were fine, but contrary to their wishes, all three Scouts had set off at about the same time. With Li Yao’s spiritual power, he could roughly estimate their stealth range and then determine where to release the Sonic Exploding Arrows for detection.
Before long, less than five minutes into the match, all three enemy Scouts were hunted by Li Yao.
“F***…”
“This game, damn…”
The last teleported Scout furiously threw his dagger on the ground, dying without knowledge of how it happened. It was frustrating with the Arrow Shaft, and what was worse, the Troll Tribe had no clue that all three of their Scouts had been killed, still awaiting the news from them to kill Starfire’s intelligence agents.
Their cries were fierce, but they knew the elite players of Starfire Starfire quite well, so they never planned a full-on assault. Their strategy also relied on the three Scouts to gather intelligence on a Starfire Captain or General, and then use that to breach their defenses.
Now that they were out, the players in the match awaited news they would never receive.
The members of the Troll Tribe looked at each other, knowing that the odds were against them now, and what’s more, they couldn’t send any messages back inside.
Li Yao didn’t care about the outsiders’ morale but instead transformed into a bat and openly soared above the enemy fortress.
As Scouts without attribute buffs, they had something called Eagle Eye, which could spot the positions of other Scouts.
Li Yao in the air could easily spot the distribution of more than twenty Scouts around the fortress.
On the left, the Vice President reached the edge of the fortress, exploiting a gap between soldiers’ patrols to Transplant flowers and trees the guard into the bushes. Before the guard could react, Vice President performed Shadow Shaping to come back, stunning the target and finishing them off in one combo.
As the patrolling guards returned to discover their station guard missing, alarms were raised. But as their attention was diverted, the Vice President had already entered the fortress from another direction.
On the other side, Shadow Dance had an easier task, simply stealth-cloaking to climb the wall and sneak into the fortress.
Li Yao had already spotted a nearby target, a Shield Warrior soldier heavily protected and on high alert, apparently made cautious by alarms from elsewhere, hinting that the Starfire Scouts had infiltrated.
Li Yao flew to the top of a tent, turned back into human form, and then entered the shadows, with a Sickle in hand. Knowing exactly where the Shield Warrior was inside the tent, he silently positioned himself above.
The Sickle tore a hole in the top of the tent, and as Li Yao saw the target, he Flash-stepped down just when others raised their heads to glance at the tent roof. The Sickle had already sliced across the Shield Warrior’s throat. With disbelief filling his face, the Shield Warrior couldn’t utter a word. As blood gushed forth and others spotted Li Yao…
