Chapter 1259: Chapter 1259: Flying Dragon Chapter 1259: Chapter 1259: Flying Dragon “It’s just not satisfying to see resources fall into the hands of players, after all, the output of those resources is certainly greater than this price. But with so many maps, even if they want to occupy them, they are eager but powerless, yet they can’t bear the thought of other camps taking over, and they can’t afford to start a big war, so they can only think of this method.” The enchantress said with a smile.
“Right, this way, there’s no need to waste manpower and sacrifice soldiers, and yet it’s possible to earn resources and funds. Think about it, some maps are contended for by four guilds, but the management rights purchased are for the whole map. Whether you can actually manage the entire map still depends on your own ability.” Sister Li stood up and said, “It seems the Guild Leader has no objections to this map, so let’s take a short break. We’ll have to head to the Main City soon to participate in the auction, and we don’t yet know what kind of opponents we’ll encounter.”
Everyone nodded and found a room to rest temporarily. Li Yao also logged off and took a round offline before logging back in. He then began to research which abilities the queen would gain after upgrading and the new troop types above it.
The queen was already level four, and looking at the remaining skill points, Li Yao chose to increase its flying mobility.
The queen resided within Li Yao, so its speed was not that important, but once the queen’s speed increased, all the Worm Tribe troops increased as well.
Thanks to the smelting of the Mechanical Furnace, the armors and attacks of the Worm Tribe had been upgraded. Even if he chose to increase attack power, it would not be a qualitative change. Since a qualitative change was not possible, Li Yao felt that the cost-effectiveness of enhancing the troops’ mobility was even higher. This mobility was not only important for marching but also for combat speed enhancement, meaning improved agility. Not to mention the enhancement for flying units, even for ground units, it was very important.
It could also greatly increase the digging speed of the Tunneling Bugs, which played a significant role in both the expansion of the hives and in combat. Furthermore, an extra skill was added for a Legion to charge and dash for a short distance, which could be more useful than a direct increase in attack power by cutting off enemy troops.
After all, when the data difference was not too large, what often decided the victory of two Legion was strategic decision-making and command, and the dispatching of forces, where the role of speed could be displayed.
Next came the selection of troop types. Higher-tier troops cost more, with just the construction of their buildings starting at fifty thousand energy units, with the highest type needing one hundred thousand.
But after half a day’s research, Li Yao felt that the troops he had selected were very optimal. As long as he upgraded the existing troop buildings, the original creatures would still be strong.
It was not that reproducing new creatures was out of the question, but it seemed like a waste of energy units and time, so Li Yao found himself frowning more and more.
On the Mantis Monster side, it was possible to produce Mantis Champion Guards, which looked like melee fighters but also wielded bows. Li Yao studied them and felt there was no need.
On the Alien Bug side, the only one Li Yao fancied was the Emperor’s Guardian, a humanoid beetle that primarily used toxin attacks. Li Yao discarded this option as well.
And on the side of spiders, it was possible to produce Beetle Lords, a very strong tank-type unit, but the cost was much higher than that of Fire Poison Cockroaches, and it didn’t have that kind of unbelievably strong vitality and regenerative ability like the cockroaches, so Li Yao gave up on it again.
What about the mutated bugs? Basically the same, with the only satisfactory unit for Li Yao being a purely airborne combat unit, the Dragon.
Although both Mantis Hunters and Breakers were also airborne troops, the Mantis Hunters were more like assassin-type troops, and Breakers were special troops targeting the magic class, basically not as versatile as the Fire Poison Cockroaches.
The Dragon, however, was different. Though called a dragon, it had in fact nothing to do with dragons. It was a metallic armor organism, with an exoskeleton like that of a cockroach, spikes protruding from its back, a pair of dragon wings, a fierce bug-like head with very many teeth in its grotesque mouth, and cold green eyes, plus a long tail with a pointed end studded with spikes.
As an air force unit, dragons could engage in both close combat and long-range attacks. They could spit toxins and shoot poison darts and gas bombs. In close combat, their sharp teeth and fierce tails served as excellent melee weapons. Although they were slightly slower than Mantis Monsters in flight speed, they had superior endurance for long-duration flying.
Therefore, the only type of military building that Li Yao chose to construct was the Dragon Tower, which cost 100,000 energy units.
In Li Yao’s view, before his Fighter Jet Cluster was well-established, dragons were to be his main air force, a force that could truly engage in direct combat, unlike assassins which had to remain hidden and could not confront the enemy directly. The dragons would help him get through this awkward period when his air force strength was weak.
After all, as the war mode progressed, many people already had air forces, and although there were quite a few Gryphons, Li Yao still considered the Gryphons as a trump card to be kept in reserve. As others say, normal combat operations can afford losses, but if the consumption is too great, it is not easy for him to replenish, and the Gryphon King would certainly have opinions about it. It was better to use forces that suited his own style.
By the time they set off, the Furnace had already been activated, and Li Yao saw the dragons that had been smelted in the Mechanical Furnace.
The dragons were clad in black metallic armor that gleamed with a ghostly light. Li Yao checked the data, and, although their defenses were not as strong as those of the Fire Poison Cockroach due to the need not to affect flight, they were much stronger than the assassins, making them a mid-level armor unit.
Moreover, after hardening, the dragon’s teeth had become even sharper, and their tails had gained greatly enhanced strength. Whether it was a tail whip attack or any other methods, their power was significantly increased.
Seeing this, Li Yao decided to increase the production of dragons to bolster his Legion with a main force.
Another matter that Li Yao was concerned about was the upgrade of the Heroic Altar, which would allow the summoning of even more powerful heroes and raise both the upper and lower limits of hero quality. With the emergence of the air force, Li Yao felt that a hero from the Worm Tribe was necessary.
Li Yao had already made up his mind: if the new hero was viable, then if it could not fly, Blade would specialize in leading the air force. If it could fly, then Blade would still lead the ground forces.
Alternatively, Blade could lead the Alien Bugs, while another hero could lead other special units of the Worm Tribe.
Time passed quickly, and only Li Yao, Tonton, and the enchantress attended the auction. Sister Li was busy with the management of the guild, which had accumulated a lot of work recently.
Meanwhile, Feng Yi was continuing her study of the Crimson Fortress map materials, preparing for future deployments. This was not only related to the overall interests of the guild but also to the welfare of the guild’s players and the buffs they could enjoy. To put it more broadly, it affected the extent to which everyone could participate in the level 50 dungeon-clearing of Starfire.
The auction was held in the Orc Main City’s Valley of Glory, with different halls hosting the auctions for each Race, each managing their own sections.
The Crimson Fortress that Li Yao and his companions were interested in was under the management of the Orc Main City, so the three of them headed directly there.
First, they visited the guild’s store in their territory and saw that it was as prosperous as ever. Then, the three of them timed their arrival at the auction hall…
