Chapter 1164: Chapter 1164: A Spanner in the Works Chapter 1164: Chapter 1164: A Spanner in the Works “This Gryphon Lord’s puppet seems pretty tough,” Xiao Ya had been paying close attention to Li Yao’s movements and followed him when he left. “It didn’t break even after falling from such a height; instead, it smashed a huge pit into the ground.”
The audience had a new appreciation for the puppet’s resilience–it was incredibly strong.
At that moment, just as the other puppets were about to fly down to protect their Lord again, a group of metallic mantis hunters with a faint metallic glint appeared behind them.
The metal on these hunters was obviously not as thick as the Fire Poison Cockroaches, but it was just as full of a metallic texture.
Their blades had received the most enhancement. When Li Yao enhanced them, he added a small amount of thorium for increased sharpness and armor-breaking capability.
Accompanied by the grating sound of cutting metal and dazzling sparks, more puppets fell from the sky.
The inattentive were no match for the prepared. Plus, they were too anxious to check on their Lord and failed to notice other Death Gods in the sky.
“Damn bastard.” The huge Combined Mecha stood up, glanced at Li Yao, and then a Gatling gun, four or five times larger than a standard one, appeared in its hand.
A flurry of dazzling Fire Snake Spray shot out, tearing the still-visible metallic cockroaches in the sky to pieces.
Li Yao hurriedly ordered the remaining Hunters to hide away; the weapon was too terrifying.
Wind Thunder Arrow!
With a flash of lightning, the Combined Puppet’s huge body emitted blinding electric arcs, its movements abruptly halted, and the hunters had already escaped its firing range.
“Bastard, die.”
In just half a second, the Combined Puppet aimed the Gatling at Li Yao, utterly ignoring the arrows that continuously struck it.
Dada dada dada…
Freedom of Wind!
Li Yao’s figure suddenly dashed up a tree and disappeared, reappearing in the forest.
The tree he had been on was torn to shreds by the crazed bullet storm, and with a creaking sound of breaking, the giant tree fell.
As Li Yao ran through the forest and over the rocks, he kept looking back and attacking the Combined Puppet.
“Damn it, you can’t escape,” the Gryphon Lord said as he didn’t care about the trees; in fact, his Combined Mecha was too big to move properly through the forest.
However, the puppet was incredibly powerful, charging and crashing along the way. The trees he passed were broken one after another, as if they were not large trees but stalks of sorghum.
“As a Hunter, you expect me to face you head-on? Are you out of your mind?”
Li Yao ran and suddenly leaped, landing on a tree trunk. He spun around, and arrows shot out from his hand.
Ripping Arrow!
This time, Li Yao switched to the tougher Wolf Fang Arrow, accompanied by a streak of light.
Two Arrows plunged straight into the joints of the Combined Puppet, and the colossal golem wasn’t slow in its sprint. But with its joints jammed, it immediately tumbled forward.
Crushing trees to smithereens in its path, the Gryphon Lord was left dizzy and disoriented by the tumble. The once formidable Combined Puppet was now covered in mud, rocks, and vegetation, looking utterly disheveled.
“If you’re so eager to play, then I’ll indulge you,” the Gryphon Lord’s eyes glowed blood-red as he regained control of the Puppet and charged at Li Yao once more. “You must have seen it too. Once the curse activates, everything will come to an end. My possessions remain mine; even if destroyed, I’ll not let others have them.”
The Call of Wind, Li Yao, suddenly flashed to the back of a tree on the left, and a Rocket Bomb unexpectedly erupted from behind his previous position, striking the tree. Hiding behind the tree, Li Yao remained unscathed.
“It’s futile. You can’t escape my eyes with such petty tricks. You’re not skilled enough to outsmart me,” Li Yao swiftly weaved through the woods, taunting. “Your Puppet is indeed formidable; I’m quite tempted by it. What a shame, a pearl cast before swine; your tech is just subpar.”
“Argh, you’re driving me insane! I will kill you,” the Gryphon Lord nearly lost his mind with frustration. Although possessed of overwhelming power, enough to finish his opponent in a single blow, he couldn’t even touch him, and to add insult to injury, he was continually mocked.
Boom…
Suddenly, a burst of blue flames exploded beneath the Combined Puppet’s feet, and the massive golem was knocked to the ground by the explosive force.
Then, a dozen Angels descended from the sky, encased by a huge net flickering with white light.
As the Angels touched down, the net fell over the Combined Puppet, clinging onto it as if alive, preventing the golem from rising again.
“Prairie Fire, we’re here to help,” a group of players abruptly emerged from the side.
Each player was guarded by a dozen Angels.
Li Yao steadied himself and, with a smirk, said, “I prefer to handle my affairs on my own, no need to go out of your way for me.”
“Prairie Fire is too modest. We are your admirers, and helping you out is our dream come true. Don’t be shy; you can just watch comfortably; it will be resolved shortly.”
A grim-faced human rogue waved his hand, and a dozen players shielded by nearly a hundred Angels positioned themselves in front of Li Yao.
“Very well, then I’ll watch,” Li Yao chuckled, pulling out a chair and a bottle of fine wine: “I am a bit parched after all this fighting, what better than to enjoy the show–and don’t let the Gryphon Lord disturb me.”
“Ha ha, you truly are remarkable, Prairie Fire. Such poise, and not something we could ever imitate. Rest assured, your elegance won’t be disrupted.”
The human rogue sneered coldly and then turned away, no longer paying attention to Li Yao.
Up ahead, a Priestess draped in an opulent Priest robe, her face shrouded by the hazy moonlight, coldly declared, “Holy Binding.”
Golden light materialized in the hands of the surrounding Angels and projected beams that connected to the net. Hundreds of these beams linked to the surrounding trees, trapping the Combined Puppet. It writhed within the net, helpless to break free.
“Are these Prairie Fire’s fans?” Tianzhen, a spectator beside Xiao Ya, wondered aloud.
“Prairie Fire is truly remarkable, coming to our aid in a pinch,” another spectator agreed.
Xiao Ya smiled bitterly: “You’re really too naive. This is clearly loot snatching. Perhaps they had their eyes on this solo boss from the start, waiting to swoop in while Prairie Fire tangled with the boss, just looking to pick the moment to take the spoils. If they truly wanted to intervene, they would have done so earlier. They’re likely after the boss’s War Equipment and schematics–lords like this one don’t get caught easily. Especially leaders of large cities; they’re bound to drop extraordinary schematics and War Equipment when defeated.”
