Chapter 1138 - Chapter 1138 Chapter 1138 The Inevitable Battle
Chapter 1138: Chapter 1138: The Inevitable Battle Chapter 1138: Chapter 1138: The Inevitable Battle The Gryphon King heard these words and, helplessly, flapped his wings to retreat.
The Black Heart Lord was already seething with anger. He had feigned madness and stupidity to get to this place and had even allied with Fallen Elves. All the while, during his confrontation with the Gryphon Lord, he had been quietly gaining strength.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t destroy Griffin City, but he felt the timing wasn’t right. Unexpectedly, he found himself outmaneuvered by the Gryphon Lord. The loss was too devastating, and he had no idea how long it would take to recover.
If he backed down now, it would certainly make his enemies think he had lost his nerve. With the underground tunnels sealed and no knowledge of when they could reopen, if the Gryphon Lord returned to reorganize his legion, he would truly be in danger.
With these thoughts, the Black Heart Lord grew even more furious, his rage boiling from within. He had always played the fool while scheming against others, but today he was the one outsmarted.
“Do you have anything to say?” the Black Heart Lord snapped, grabbing two giant warhammers. He was originally a high-level Abomination, forged from the body of a powerful Warcraft and the soul of a Fallen Elf.
Although he lacked the natural talents of the Fallen Elves, his body was enormous and so were the warhammers in his hands.
As the Black Heart Lord drew his weapons, his troops also brandished theirs, ready to act on his command.
“I, I, have you lost your mind? My army is either by my side or stationed in the city. How could I possibly ambush you? If I had that kind of power, I would have destroyed your Black Heart City long ago. Why would I wait until now? You’re not seeking your real enemies but targeting me instead–it’s ridiculous…” The Gryphon Lord was a tech geek at heart, absorbed in engineering studies with little time for plotting, and his explanation came out all muddled.
“Fine, if your hundred thousand air forces arrive here within half an hour, I will let it go,” the Black Heart Lord sneered. “After the skirmish and battle, I don’t believe there were no slipups.”
The Gryphon Lord’s face grew even more troubled, “Now, with the sub-dimensions merging, my air forces have been redeployed to support other areas. Where am I supposed to find you air forces?”
“Great, just great. So this is how it is. To have done something and yet not have the courage to admit it–I always thought you were my rival, but now it seems I overestimated you.” The Black Heart Lord suddenly shouted, “Adventurers from the main dimension and other sub-dimensions, my brothers who have fought for Black Heart these past days, I now officially issue the attack order. By killing enemies, you can come to my side and exchange for Undead Species to help me defeat the Gryphon Lord–and you will receive handsome rewards.”
The Gryphon Lord also hastily called out, seeking to recruit the surrounding players to join the battle.
“The Gryphon Lord will not treat you as cannon fodder. As long as you follow our legion and reap their forces, when we return to the Gryphon Lord’s domain, you can also exchange your battle merits for the soldier types you desire,”
The Gryphon King then led the remaining Gryphons to soar into the sky, wisely choosing to leave since this place was about to become a colossal battlefield.
Li Yao, seeing the two cities’ armies ready to attack at any moment and the players growing restless, slowly walked away.
Many players also did not wish to participate in this fight, likewise distancing themselves. Still, more chose to stay, eager to acquire more powerful armies. How could they not take the risk?
And, after all, where else could they fight if not here? Both lords had granted them the privilege of exchanging military merits for elite soldier types–an opportunity that came once in a million years.
For a while, some players joined the Gryphon Lord’s camp, and others joined the Black Heart Lord’s, quickly picking sides.
Li Yao directly messaged Meng Ke privately, “If you also want to wade into these muddy waters and mix in some troops, then it’s best if you join the side of Black Heart Lord. That way, you might actually gain something.”
Meng Ke immediately replied, “But the current situation is that Heart City is ruined, and the casualties are heavy. In terms of strength, Heart City is at a disadvantage.”
“Sometimes the apparent strength does not determine the outcome of a battle. I’m just giving you a heads-up, believe it or not. Oh, and tell Lan Yan and the others for me,” Li Yao didn’t elaborate further.
“Wait, was Heart City’s decline your doing?”
“Hey!”
Li Yao stopped paying attention and instead watched the situation from afar atop a giant tree.
Collet asked in confusion, “With such heavy losses, why would Heart City still go to war? The safest course would, of course, be to retreat, recuperate, and rebuild.”
Nicholas said with disdain, “It’s exactly because Heart City has suffered heavy losses that they must fight. From the perspective of Black Heart Lord, whether or not Griffin City was involved, he wouldn’t allow Griffin City’s strength to surpass that of Heart City on the surface. He wants to use this battle to severely hurt the market old city. That way, if there isn’t a full-scale war, both parties will recuperate after this skirmish.”
“What if there’s an all-out war?” Collet said, not convinced.
“That’s why you’re naive. With the sub-dimension merging, the major directive allows for frictional combat but doesn’t approve of ongoing deathmatches; otherwise, it would give the advantage to the forces of the main dimension. Moreover, both lords have their own enemies within their respective alliances, eyeing their position as city master. If they suffer too much, naturally, someone will jump out to take their place,” Nicholas looked at Collet with disdain.
Collet’s face flushed red. He had no background to speak of, and being able to study engineering was already impressive. Naturally, he lacked the time and someone to teach him about politics, unlike Nicholas, whose family had fallen, but much of its foundation still existed.
“Alright, stop arguing. Collet, you’re aware of your shortcomings, so study more when you’re free. Your current state wouldn’t be suitable for being a city master, and I wouldn’t want to leave a city in your hands in the future, only for you to mismanage it,” Li Yao said.
“Rest assured, my lord. The books you’ve provided–I’m always reading them whenever I have the time,” Collet said earnestly.
“Good, there’s time for you to learn,” Li Yao said, looking into the distance. “The battle has finally begun; we should also start preparing on the other side. Collet, the location we’ve selected in Griffin City shouldn’t have any problems, right?”
“It certainly won’t be worse than Nicholas’s side.”
“Good, I’ll have the Fire Hawk keep an eye on this battlefield. We’re moving out to Griffin City,” Li Yao said as he leaped down from the tree, returned to the tent, and once again entered the lower tunnel.
He summoned a Tunneling Bug and directed them into the Frame Space, while he himself rapidly sped toward Griffin Castle atop one.
Since it was an uphill journey, it took Li Yao half an hour to reach the predetermined location.
Meanwhile, on the plains, a full-scale battle had erupted. The legions of the two lords began to clash, with roughly equal numbers in their armies. But the lord of Heart City had several times the number of air units than Griffin City, and this was the main reason why the Black Heart Lord insisted on a battle. If he didn’t inflict severe damage while the opponent’s air forces were not at full strength, the opportunity would be lost once the opponent regrouped…
