Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva -
Chapter 895 - 64 Survival Philosophy of the Underlying Realm_2
"I've already signed you up. The event officially starts at 7:30 later."
"By the way, I still haven't seen the pet you're going to bring to the stage. Don't tell me you're planning to find one last minute?" Suoga finally realized and reacted belatedly.
"Don't worry about that. You'll see soon enough." Tilan glanced at the crowd below. To her surprise, it was quite lively — there were probably a few hundred people here already.
"Are events like this common?"
"Very common. But there's a rule: if you place in the top three, you can't participate in the same type of event again."
"Why?"
"Because if the strongest contestant always wins, the matches get boring. And when they're boring, no one shows up." Suoga leaned back on the sofa and explained the situation casually.
"See, even activities in the lower tiers know how to keep things fresh. But the Federal Upper Echelon is as stagnant as dead water."
Tilan didn't respond, simply eating her meal in silence. She had to admit, the fried rice here was quite good, and the price was reasonable too.
After finishing their meal, Tilan and Suoga walked into the crowd. Suoga led her to the contestants' resting area.
This was a specifically designated section. With all the massive bears, tigers, lions, and other fierce beasts around, it felt like stepping into a wild jungle.
"Hey, isn't this Suoga? Long time, no see." A biker with earrings walked over. His style bore some resemblance to Suoga's.
"Mo De, huh." Suoga responded simply. The two chatted a little; they seemed to be old acquaintances who used to race together.
"And who's this?" He looked at the quiet Tilan beside them, somewhat surprised.
"Is this your sister? She looks like such a good student. She needs to be careful in a place like this." Despite his rough appearance, the man seemed decent.
"Careful of what?" Tilan wanted to know what he meant.
"Heh, of course, careful of the fierce thugs and the smooth talkers. A kid like you is the easiest to trick," he said, laughing heartily.
Suoga gave him a light punch, signaling him to watch himself.
"Alright, stop laughing. Weren't you the same back in the day, always bragging about having a bunch of new girlfriends?"
"That was in the past. Now, whew—" As he spoke, he lit a cigarette.
"Now I even have a daughter. My mindset has changed."
"Oh, you actually got married?" Suoga sounded surprised.
"Yeah, last year. It was… complicated. Forget it; let's not talk about it. The matches are about to begin." Although they were catching up, he clearly didn't want to elaborate further.
"Good evening, beloveds of Academy City! It's time for tonight's ferocious beast battles! Today's tournament is generously sponsored by Mr. Shi Weide, an old friend of ours."
"Now let's welcome Mr. Shi Weide to the stage~" With that, a rotund man dressed in a white suit and dark-skinned like a rolling sphere slowly stepped onto the stage. Behind him was an enormous pug, taller than the man himself. The dog's massive frame wobbled with hanging flesh as it moved, drawing gasps from the crowd.
"Hello, everyone, I'm Shi Weide, the owner of the Dog Paw Club. Our club has always loved giant dogs and fierce hounds. They symbolize loyalty, honor, and valor. You can tell a person's character by the dogs they raise. If you want to be like us, bring your dog to our club. We welcome every solitary warrior forging ahead. Do not fear the night, for we have loyal guards at our side."
After his brief opening remarks, the matches were about to start. Tonight, 129 people had signed up. Most were likely just here for the thrill, either bowing out midway or too scared to step into the arena. The truly capable ones numbered around thirty.
The first to step onto the stage was a bare-chested man leading a giant bear. He unclasped the chains from the bear, fed it some meat, and patted its shoulder. The colossal bear, weighing several tons, then lumbered into the battleground.
Primordial Sequence 5 · Brute Force Giant Bear (Common Condensing Bead Rank): While its massive size and immense strength make it imposing, the mismatch between its physique and abilities results in slow movements and delayed reactions. It would struggle against agile, composed opponents.
Standing quietly in the spectator stand, Tilan observed and analyzed, completely ignoring the cheers and shouts around her.
The opponent soon entered as well—a large, fanged beast, a Black-toothed Wolf.
Slashing Blade Sequence 5 · Fanged Wild Wolf (Common Condensing Bead Rank): Its fangs, combined with the Slashing Blade Sequence's cutting ability, grant it considerable offensive power. However, its body's overall physical capabilities are mediocre, preventing it from fully utilizing its fangs' lethality.
The battle commenced swiftly. As Tilan had anticipated, the giant bear couldn't match the wolf's speed at all on the battlefield, panting heavily and unable to catch its opponent. Eventually, under its owner's command, the bear sat down, letting its paws hang limply, adopting a waiting posture.
Pushed by the time constraint of the fight, the Black-toothed Wolf initiated a probing attack. First, it circled behind and lunged, its fangs slicing through the air and emitting sharp howls. Two invisible blades pierced the giant bear's back.
The attack made the bear roar in anger. Large clumps of its fur fell off, revealing faint traces of blood seeping through the coat.
Not very lethal, but highly humiliating.
In response, the giant bear turned around, again attempting to chase the Black-toothed Wolf, yet still couldn't catch up after several tries.
"Roar!" Overcome with fury, the bear slammed the ground with tremendous force. Many onlookers felt the earth shake slightly beneath them, their feet tingling faintly. In the arena, the Black-toothed Wolf staggered as the shockwave swept over it.
Seizing the brief moment, the bear surged forward. Unfortunately, the wolf regained its balance in time, causing the bear's claws to swipe at empty air. In its haste, the bear lost its footing, allowing the Black-toothed Wolf to leap onto its back, baring its fangs and sinking them deep in a ferocious bite.
