Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva
Chapter 842 - 44 Questions and Answers During a Walk in the Woods

"Ah~ Yawn~"

Sitting on the bed, Tilan was still somewhat bleary-eyed. She looked outside the window; it seemed to be evening now. How many days had she slept?

Throwing off the covers and walking downstairs in slippers, Tilan saw Geyin dining in the restaurant.

Cocking her head slightly, Tilan was curious why Geyin actually decided to come out for a meal today.

Apart from Geyin, there were two maids in the dining room; one was serving Geyin warmed soup after the meal, while the other waited at the side of the room.

"Good evening, Lord Tiran," she greeted Tilan with a slight bend as she entered.

"Hmm, how many shifts are you working now?" Tilan recalled instructing the maids on this matter some time ago.

"We work in four shifts, roughly a day on followed by a day off," the maid replied.

"Although you have received education before, technology has certainly iterated and progressed a lot compared to a hundred years ago. Whenever you have time, you could study something you're interested in," said Tilan.

"Yes, my lord," the maid nodded. During this period, they had indeed been reading and studying, borrowing the mansion's terminals to connect to the Academy's library database, which was stocked with complete materials from various industries, including ample secret techniques and learning experiences from the Transcendent Sequence.

"If there's something you don't understand, you can ask me too. If I don't understand it either, then I will ask a teacher," Tilan blinked, offering the maids a little shortcut.

"Hmm."

After a brief chat with the maid about recent matters, Tilan also sat next to Geyin, and soon the maid brought the prepared dinner.

The main dish was a fragrant roast duck emanating steamy warmth, accompanied by vegetable sticks and rice. As an Easterner, Tilan preferred rice over bread.

Sipping the cool soda gently, Tilan felt rejuvenated. After resting well for a few days, she felt her status was quite good, probably able to concentrate even on exceptionally abstruse and complex study materials.

Using chopsticks to peel off the crispy duck skin, and then picking up a small piece dipped in sauce, Tilan slowly savored tonight's dinner; Geyin, sitting by her side, was eating tomato beef stew, occasionally sipping hot vegetable soup.

The two didn't talk much while dining; first, Geyin was naturally reticent, and second, Tilan preferred to focus on enjoying her food while eating.

When Geyin finished eating, Tilan had only finished half her meal. Geyin stood up, walked to the side room in the dining room, sat down, and started checking messages and replying on her personal terminal, also waiting for Tilan to finish dinner.

Ten minutes later, after Tilan finished her meal, they walked out of the dining room, and Geyin stood up and followed her outside to the garden for a stroll.

The winter night was a bit cold, but the climate in Academy City was pleasant, never dropping below 5-6 degrees Celsius, nowhere near as cold as Jade Skirt.

Walking together for a while in relative silence, it wasn't until they turned a corner that Tilan turned her head to look at the silver-green-haired girl beside her.

"Geyin seems preoccupied," she noted, being a talented Songstress capable of sensing her friend's unusual demeanor.

"Hmm," Geyin nodded but did not elaborate.

Tilan didn't press further, simply accompanying her as they continued their walk.

The small garden next to the mansion was usually tended to by the maids and planted with some of Tilan's favorite flowers, including 'Ghostlight Flowers' which bloomed at night and emitted a faint luminescence.

Tilan stopped walking and crouched to observe a few blossoms, gently touching with her fingers, feeling the delicate stamen within the tender petals.

"They're beautiful." She still loved these flowers, especially their exceptional beauty at night.

Because Tilan paused, Geyin too came to a standstill, watching the girl in front touching the petals.

Somehow, her heart gradually settled.

"Tilan."

"What is it?"

"Do you think people should be equal?" she suddenly asked a peculiar question.

"They should not," Tilan replied flatly.

"Why?"

"Because it is unfair."

"People are born different, doing different things; why would they be treated equally?" The girl stood up.

"Forcing uniformity only leads to annoyance because it means some people's efforts are wasted."

"Likewise, why treat good and evil people the same? I like good people, so I treat them well; I dislike wrongdoers, so I have no sympathy for them."

"I understand," Geyin nodded.

"Thank you, Tilan."

"It's nothing, just..." Tilan paused and stood up.

"Did Geyin suddenly ask this because you've encountered some philosophical dilemma?" Tilan slightly turned her head, curious.

"Because I'm often online, I encounter many people with different thoughts," Geyin lowered her head as Tilan looked at her, actually a bit shy to meet Tilan's gaze.

"Recently, I came across a diverse group of people who believe companions should form an equal and mutual Circle, then stand against external oppression," Geyin whispered.

"That's a good idea," Tilan nodded in praise.

"But didn't you just say it was wrong?"

"No, I only said 'should not'."

"Everyone may aspire to and try to establish such relationships, but when it comes to obligatory responsibilities, fairness should take precedence over equality."

"How to explain? If a task demands everyone's responsibility, then it's as if no one is responsible. If regardless of how much effort is put in, the outcome is the same for everyone, then no one will be inclined to work."
