Chapter 337: Chapter 211: The Grim Reaper Harvesting Lives

Li Ke didn’t know if it was because he had lost too much blood or if he was terrified by Ran Yan’s grim expression, but his complexion was somewhat pale. His eyes fiercely fixed on her, yet he didn’t speak, only clutching his wound tightly.

Blood continued to ooze out from between his fingers. If this went on for much longer, he might die from blood loss.

Li Ke shouted, "Someone come!"

The door was pushed open, and four Imperial Guards with swords stepped in. Seeing the blood all over the room, they couldn’t help exclaiming in shock, "Your Highness!"

"Fetch the doctor," Li Ke said, no longer daring to speak loudly. Just now, his shout caused the blood to surge out, making his vision darken repeatedly.

Several guards had seen combat and were experienced in dealing with such injuries; therefore, before the doctor arrived, they managed a simple treatment of the wound.

Just then, two rows of guards ushered Su Fu in.

Su Fu was dressed in a black round-necked Hu outfit, his ink-black hair neatly tied into a bun, with not a single superfluous item on his person. Observing the chaos on the floor and seeing Ran Yan bloodied and leaning against the corner, his austere expression grew even colder, like ice that had lasted for a thousand years.

"Let me have a look." Somehow, Su Fu broke free from the two guards holding him and walked over to Ran Yan’s side.

The guards behind him were all on edge, yet none dared to stop him.

Ran Yan released her hand, and blood surged out again. The wound was deep, but fortunately, it hadn’t hit an artery like Li Ke’s wound had.

Su Fu took out a handkerchief and gently wiped the blood near the wound. In a quick motion, he already had a threaded needle in hand.

The guards’ faces turned pale as they realized that despite having thoroughly searched him earlier—nearly having him strip for inspection—he now somehow had a needle! How was that possible!

"Can you bear the pain?" Su Fu asked without finding it odd to pose such a question to a "wife." In his mind, Ran Yan was different from ordinary women.

Ran Yan had never experienced being sutured without anesthesia before. She smiled bitterly; given her current situation, she had to endure it! Otherwise, with this wound, if there was a chance to escape later, she wouldn’t be able to move quickly. Bracing herself, she simply hummed an affirmation.

As the needle pierced her skin, Ran Yan trembled slightly. It was painful, but not unbearably so, as the wound had already gone numb from pain. The sensation of the needle passing through the flesh was truly uncomfortable, though.

Because Li Ke’s injuries were severe, and he wasn’t paying attention to them, Su Fu had the opportunity to properly attend to Ran Yan’s wound.

By the time the three-inch-long wound was stitched up, Ran Yan was completely drained, sweat covering her body as if she had been drenched by rain, droplets falling onto the floor. Yet from beginning to end, she didn’t make a sound.

"Are you alright?" Su Fu asked softly after he had finished bandaging her, his usually cold voice now somewhat gentle.

"Yes," Ran Yan responded.

The guards looked on, dumbfounded—what kind of people were these? It was one thing for Su Fu to be an assassin, but for a delicate wife to be stitched up without crying out was simply bizarre!

But soon, they considered that even their own master had been injured so severely; perhaps this young woman was also an assassin. Li Ke was not a frail prince raised in the Capital City. In terms of strategy, courage, and valor, even the Emperor held him in high regard. The guards immediately classified her as a threat on the same level as Su Fu.

Exchanging a glance, Su Fu and Ran Yan were on the same page. Now that Li Ke was too preoccupied to command his guards, it was the perfect chance to escape. With Su Fu’s martial arts skills, breaking free shouldn’t be a problem.

Su Fu was worried that Ran Yan’s injuries were too severe for her to endure, but seeing the determination in her eyes, he pursed his lips slightly, took her delicate hand in his, and said warmly, "Stay behind me."

"Alright." Ran Yan couldn’t help, but she was determined not to be a burden.

After letting go of Ran Yan’s hand, Su Fu dashed out like a cheetah, seizing a guard by the head and dragging him backward, quickly getting away from the other guards. With his left forearm, he clamped the guard’s head while twisting fiercely with his right hand. A crisp crack sound echoed as the guard’s head hung at an impossible angle.

This series of actions took but a moment, and the slain guards didn’t have even the slightest chance to struggle.

Ran Yan felt a thunderous roar inside her head, as if she could sense the terrifying sound of Assistant Zhang’s hand snapping her own neck.

"Go!" Su Fu, who had somehow already returned with a knife in hand, grabbed her.

Ran Yan quickly gathered her thoughts and followed closely behind him.

The ordinary guard’s knife, in Su Fu’s hands, became like the scythe of the Grim Reaper, harvesting lives wherever it passed, leaving a trail of blood and gore.

Ran Yan had seen many dead people, but this was the first time she witnessed life after life disappearing before her eyes. She steadied her mind, forcefully convincing herself that in the current situation, it was either their death or her own, and she absolutely couldn’t afford to be soft-hearted!

Comforting herself thus, she followed Su Fu closely, ensuring that she didn’t hold him back.

In the blink of an eye, Su Fu had already led her out of the room.

The courtyard was still a flurry of falling snow, with just a few lanterns casting feeble light.

Su Fu, carrying Ran Yan waist-high, dodged the main courtyard and darted past the side buildings along the wall. As their figures passed by, a sudden barrage of arrows whistled through the wind and snow, coming toward them.

The spots Su Fu chose were rarely reachable by arrows, and the few that did come close were deflected by the knife in his hand.

Upon reaching a dead-end alley, Su Fu carried Ran Yan, using the uneven blue brick wall to lightly propel himself, easily vaulting over.

Once they exited the courtyard, what met their eyes was an expanse of open field.

Only then did Ran Yan realize that they were already outside Chang’an City.

Su Fu had a very accurate sense of direction and ran through the snowy landscape as if flying. Ordinary soldiers simply couldn’t catch up to him, but soon, the sound of horse hooves approached.

He veered in direction, heading toward a nearby forest.

It was not the correct direction for escape, but it was a good place for an ambush and killing.

"Don’t be afraid, these few people can’t harm us," Su Fu said softly.

Secretly estimating, Su Fu knew that as the Governor of Anzhou, Li Ke’s main forces were based in Anzhou. If there was a large-scale movement, it would surely draw suspicion from others, and the forces he had planted in Chang’an, he wouldn’t easily employ. Therefore, these men were not fearsome.

Originally, if everything was under Li Ke’s control, Su Fu might already be dead under the barrage of arrows, but who would have known that he underestimated Ran Yan and almost lost his life as a result. With no commander and overwhelmed by Su Fu’s imposing momentum, the soldiers below were naturally in disarray. To an assassin like Su Fu, a force that couldn’t unite into a single entity was like a larger block of tofu—how it was cut, vertically or horizontally, was for him to decide.

Su Fu had never feared martial prowess; he only feared intelligence. How Li Ke suppressed him firmly was crystal clear in his memory.

Entering the woods, Ran Yan suddenly remembered that her neck seemed to still be bleeding. Fearing that her blood would drop to the ground and be discovered, she reached out to cover the wound.

It took a while for the two to find a suitable hiding spot in the forest.

"We should be safe here, you stay put and don’t move, I’ll go take care of them," Su Fu said as he set Ran Yan down, pointing to a large hollow in a tree.

This was an old tree that would take three people to encircle, and due to the dim light, it was unclear what type of tree it was. There was a hollow at thigh height in the tree, its narrow entrance was half-covered by snow, and with Ran Yan’s build, she could easily slip inside.
