Chapter 335: Chapter 210 Bite You to Death
Ran Yan knew that the guards in the yard must have been dealt with, otherwise, when she had wounded that person, the scream would surely have been heard by someone.
For now, she could only play it by ear.
The men, seeing Ran Yan holding an oil-paper umbrella, looked at it warily for a few moments, but then thought, it’s just an umbrella, it couldn’t hide anything significant, and did not stop her.
Ran Yan handed over a large cloak, and a group of men in black instinctively stepped back.
Having under-estimated their opponent at first and suffered for it, they were now being overly cautious.
Ran Yan scoffed and, standing in the corridor, opened the umbrella. Seeing that the men in black still meant to threaten her with Wan Lu, she coldly said, "Find something and protect her."
Being dragged around in nothing but her undershirt in the freezing snow, she would be lucky to survive even if not directly harmed.
Under the glaring snowlight, everyone clearly saw Ran Yan’s face, and they all secretly cursed, saying that the prettier the woman, the more venomous—true to the saying!
Ran Yan was quietly observing their reactions. Although they seemed well-trained, certain instinctual reactions could not deceive anyone; they were clearly just riffraff.
In Chang’an, with a population of a million and markets aplenty, such idlers were not few in number. But without someone backing them, they wouldn’t dare to brazenly break into a private residence and kidnap someone. But who was backing them?
Ran Yan thought it over and over and felt that since she had only been in Chang’an for a few days, had rarely appeared in the markets, and was not well-known, it was unlikely she had offended anyone.
Unable to come to a conclusion, Ran Yan temporarily put her queries aside and focused on her surroundings.
The men had already opened the side door, where a carriage was waiting; in the hazy light, one could vaguely see twenty or thirty figures.
Upon boarding the carriage, someone used black silk to blindfold Ran Yan and tie up her arms and legs. Touching the rope tied around her feet, she was astonished—did they really think such a simple binding could hold someone? Even if she couldn’t untie herself immediately, pulling down the black silk over her face with her hands would be easy.
Ran Yan tentatively pulled at the black silk, and immediately, a voice said, "Miss Ran Shiqi, you’d best stay still."
Ran Yan cooperated by lowering her hands. She concentrated on discerning the direction and tried hard to catch any sound that might serve as a clue.
The carriage had barely moved less than a hundred meters when it suddenly stopped. In the darkness, the sound of clashing weapons filled the alley, and the wind roared, making it impossible to hear clearly. Unable to see anything, Ran Yan had to rely on her hearing. She heard the sounds of fighting getting closer to the carriage, along with a rough voice shouting, "Who are you people, daring to break into a private residence in the middle of the night!"
The person guarding her inside the carriage remained motionless, and Ran Yan did not dare to act rashly either.
Only when the sound of clashing blades reached the carriage door did the man guarding Ran Yan no longer hold back; he suddenly darted out of the carriage, drawing his sword to confront the attackers.
"I am a guard of the Xiao residence. Those who know better, get lost now!" shouted the rough voice.
Ran Yan immediately curled up, pulled the black silk off her face, and used the long sword hidden in the handle of her umbrella to cut the ropes on her hands, about to cut the ones on her feet when suddenly, the horse neighed loudly as if going mad, and bolted forward.
Ran Yan’s body swayed, and she fell backwards.
With a thud, her head hit against Wan Lu. She exhaled in relief, grateful it hadn’t hit the hard edge of the bed—that would have been troublesome if she had been knocked out.
Ran Yan quickly cut the ropes off her feet, yet found it odd—the horse had been calm throughout, even as the two groups fought, showing no signs of frenzy, clearly indicating it was well-trained. What could have made it suddenly go mad? Had it been accidentally wounded by a weapon?
Just as Ran Yan was about to climb out to check, the carriage gradually slowed down.
Out of nowhere, thick smoke began to fill the carriage. By the time Ran Yan noticed, it was already too late. Her limbs grew weak, and her consciousness began to blur. She struggled with her will for a while and faintly saw a figure walking into the carriage, picking up the black silk from the ground and blindfolding her eyes once more.
Eventually, Ran Yan could no longer resist the effects of the drug and lost consciousness.
Not knowing how long she was unconscious, in the darkness, Ran Yan felt extremely cold, and her neck felt as if it were being gnawed at, somewhat painful and occasionally disgustingly slimy.
She suddenly opened her eyes, and everything was still dark, feeling the black silk still over her eyes, and a hot hand was caressing her waist and abdomen.
