Chapter 324: Chapter 204: The Little Leg Bone in the Snow

Outside, the snow was heavy and the wind was light, and Ran Yun excitedly frolicked around the snowy field like a little bird flapping about for several laps.

Ran Yan also wore a smile on her face. Her uncharacteristically gentle demeanor left the ladies who had just disembarked from their carriages momentarily stunned.

Thwack! A snowball hit Han Xun, who was lost in a daze, right on her leg, and promptly thereafter, the other ladies also fell victim.

"Ran Yun! You ambushed me!" Han Xun, feeling irked, began to squat down and form snowballs while indignantly accusing.

Ran Yun proclaimed triumphantly, "It’s your own fault for spacing out! All’s fair in war—this is what we call a ’beauty trap’!"

As she spoke, her hands didn’t slow down in the slightest; Sanbao by her side had already formed a dozen snowballs for her, and without further words, a group of ladies unleashed a ferocious attack.

Since Ran Yun initiated the skirmish and referred to it as a ’beauty trap’, several of the ladies who fell for the trick teamed up against Ran Yan, joining forces to target her.

Ran Yan initially dodged a few times before finding time to form snowballs and started to fight back fiercely.

Having not had a snowball fight in many years, Ran Yan was disheveled but her mood improved increasingly and she became more engrossed in playing. She simply shrugged off her cloak and got serious about forming snowballs on the ground, occasionally dodging unexpected ambushes.

Initially, most of them focused on throwing snowballs at Ran Yun and Ran Yan, but Ran Yun, knowing she couldn’t withstand everyone alone, targeted Han Xun specifically.

"Ah Xun, you’re cheating, how can you let the maids shield you in front!" Ran Yun cried out.

Han Xun poked her head out from behind her flustered maids and retorted, "So you’re allowed to use a beauty trap, but I can’t preserve my main force?" With that, she took the opportunity to toss another snowball.

"Han Xun is cheating, hit her!" Ran Yun shouted to Ran Yan, and as a result, the other ladies were riled up, quickly switching sides and beginning to hurl snowballs at Han Xun.

Surrounded by everyone, Han Xun’s maids could only protect one side, and seeing her act like a shrinking turtle, Ran Yan vigorously targeted her backside with snowballs. Others found this amusing too and followed suit.

"Ouch! Zhang Si-niang, how could you hit me!" Amidst the chaos, internal strife arose among the people.

Soon after, someone screamed, "Who hit me?"

The united front collapsed in an instant; the snowy field turned into a chaotic gruel, with the ladies grabbing snowballs to throw at each other. Now, with more targets and more people to watch out for, everybody played even more vigorously.

For a while, the vast wilderness resonated with screams, laughter, and occasional shouts like "So-and-so, just you wait"—the scene was bustling with activity.

The ladies coming from Cheng Family’s private gardens soon joined in the fun, stopping their carriages and alighting with their maids to join the fray.

Generally, it was maids forming the snowballs and the ladies throwing them at each other. Ran Yan felt this to be uninteresting; if she were to throw snowballs at other people’s maids, those maids, seeing her as a mistress, wouldn’t dare retaliate, which wouldn’t disrupt the current situation.

Therefore, Ran Yan swapped roles with Wan Lu; she started making snowballs and let Wan Lu attack others’ "supply lines." When those struck by Wan Lu realized their attacker was also a maid, they didn’t hold back and returned fire.

In a few moments, the maids erupted into chaos. Knowing all too well the frustration of only making but not being able to throw snowballs, their outburst resulted in an even fiercer snowball fight. With fewer snowballs in the ladies’ hands, the already disordered scene became even more chaotic.

At this point, everyone was absorbed in the fun and did not blame their own maids.

Ran Yan was thrilled, hurling snowballs wildly, then finding herself chased all over the place, too excited to notice that several more carriages had appeared on the path.

Furthermore, a few people fixed their gazes on her, following her movements without blinking, and among them was Xiao Song.

He had never seen Ran Yan like this before, her smile blooming like flowers as she dashed through the snow like a young deer, covered in snow, looking utterly disheveled, her face flushed from the exercise, breathtakingly beautiful.

Xiao Song felt his heartbeat accelerating incessantly, as if Ran Yan’s deer-like figure had burrowed into his heart, leaving him in the end hearing nothing but his own thunderous heartbeat, making him want to look away, yet he could not bear to do so.

As the light of day started to fade, the snowball-fighting ladies were all exhausted. They agreed to gather again for another snowball fight on the next snowy day. After donning their cloaks and introducing themselves to each other, they headed to their respective carriages.

"Ah!" A lady from behind tripped and cried out in alarm.

Having bonded over the fray, there was a newfound sense of kinship among them, so everyone stopped to see if she was injured.
