Chapter 127: Chapter 81: Long Admired Reputation

Su Fu’s knife rose and fell, and a whole leg of lamb was quickly trimmed, while Ran Yan was still cutting methodically.

"Eating Western food with Ran Yan is a terrifying experience," someone had said in the past. Her knife-holding posture was elegant, but it somehow always seemed a bit strange.

"Does Mr. Su know me?" Ran Yan had always been curious. Earlier in the woods, she had uttered only one sentence, yet Su Fu had recognized her identity.

Su Fu placed his plate on the table, quietly glanced at her, and said with a cold voice, "I’ve long heard of your famed name."

Ran Yan’s heart tightened slightly, the "famed name" he mentioned was probably referring to forensic examination! Judge’s mansion was near East Market, and that rainy day when he died, Su Fu was also in East Market. Based on the timing, Ran Yan had reason to suspect that Judge was killed by Su Fu. So, did he also know she had conducted an examination of Judge’s body?

Su Fu used the dagger’s tip to pick up a slice of meat and began to chew slowly.

After Ran Yan finished cutting the meat, she started eating without reservation, the tender and crisp taste catching her off guard, increasing her hunger as she stopped being polite.

"Madam Ran must also be quite familiar with me." Su Fu’s movements were very elegant, but he ate rapidly. In no time, half of the sliced leg of lamb in front of him was gone.

Ran Yan hesitated in her motions. She had seen Su Fu several times: once with a mask, once spying in the mignonette pavilion, and another time wearing a mask. The time he barged into the carriage and took her hostage, Ran Yan’s face had no coverings, but he was masked.

If Su Fu was referring to that time, it could hardly be considered familiar. Could it be...

"I’ve always been thinking whether I should kill you." Su Fu took out a handkerchief, wiped his mouth, and his cool gaze landed faintly on Ran Yan’s face as if he was uttering the most common greeting.

Ran Yan took a bite of the lamb, having realized that an assassin didn’t rely solely on looks to recognize someone. Breath, feeling, and various subtle signs all allowed them to sharply differentiate between individuals.

"Then why didn’t you kill me?" Ran Yan asked calmly.

Su Fu’s eyes remained unmoved, and he didn’t answer her question, merely saying, "Let’s go back after we finish eating, and from now on, make sure I don’t see you entering this woods again."

Having said that, he got up and walked towards the courtyard. He paused at the bamboo gate, looked back, and said, "Throw the umbrella into the woods tomorrow."

With the creaking sound of the door, Ran Yan withdrew her gaze and continued to eat silently, only to suddenly discover, a pool of blood had been left where Su Fu had been sitting.

It must have been a severe injury for so much blood to flow out in such a short time. Ran Yan didn’t quite know what to say about Su Fu—an assassin wounded in the middle of the night was not unusual, but enduring a serious injury while nonchalantly roasting and eating meat was something she could not comprehend.

Ran Yan hesitated, wondering whether to intervene.

As she pondered, she had already stood up and pushed open the bamboo gate. The courtyard was filled with a vast expanse of crimson cockscomb flowers, which under the moonlight, resembled a dried stain of blood, strikingly red.

The Bamboo Courtyard was not large, surrounded by rooms on three sides. Ran Yan followed the trail of blood toward the bamboo house on the east side.

The door was shut tight. Ran Yan took a deep breath, about to reach out, when the door swung open abruptly. A cold wind laced with a faint, sweet scent of blood accompanied the cold voice that rushed towards her, "You certainly are bold."

When everything settled, Ran Yan clearly saw Su Fu’s half-open chest. His robust torso was like a flawless work of art, and even the scar on his chest seemed fitting, complementing his strikingly handsome face and rendering him invulnerable.

"Since I have eaten your lamb, I thought I’d see if you needed help." Ran Yan, ignoring the sword at her neck, let her gaze wander openly over his chest for a moment before looking up to meet his eyes calmly.

Su Fu’s eyes, suffused with a pale blue, approached Ran Yan as if trying to read her emotions, but to no avail.

"No need to look any further; whatever I’m thinking, I’ve already said outright." Ran Yan’s gaze fell on the blood that was beginning to ooze from his waist, and she said candidly, "They say seeing is believing and hearing is deceiving, yet there are many people like you who do not trust what their eyes see."

The long sword in Su Fu’s hand gradually lowered, propped on the ground, supporting his body.

Ran Yan sensed the murderous aura fading from him and asked, "Do you need me to treat your wound?"

As an assassin, Su Fu had long lost the ability to trust, but somehow, seeing Ran Yan’s untroubled eyes, he found himself nodding.
