Chapter 65: Chapter 65 First Kiss_1

Dugu Qianye returned to the courtyard and heard the clanging and banging from the kitchen, making her believe for a moment that she had returned to the small courtyard in Qifeng City, where Mo Feng was cooking for her.

She went to the kitchen and saw a new stove, new kitchenware, and a person she had just met less than a day ago. Yet, on the table was steaming hot food that made half of her fatigue disappear.

"I thought you were bluffing about being able to cook," Dugu Qianye leaned on the doorway with her arms crossed.

Zi Xiao looked at the petite figure at the door. With the sunlight on her back, Dugu Qianye seemed to carry the hope of life. He ladled some porridge into a bowl and said, "I saw that everyone else had left for a while, so I guessed you’d be back soon. Come, try my cooking."

Dugu Qianye walked over, took up a spoon, and had a taste. It was quite good, and she quickly finished a bowl. She put down the spoon, looked at Zi Xiao who was sitting opposite her watching her eat, and asked, "What made you think of making breakfast? If you were hungry, there should have been food ready in the kitchen."

Zi Xiao took her bowl, served her another, and placed it in front of her, saying, "There was quite a commotion last night! Seeing how busy you all were, I figure no one in the kitchen would have cooked. Besides, I wanted to cook for you!"

Dugu Qianye’s mind drifted for a second before she lowered her head to continue eating the porridge, saying, "Not bad, the skill."

Zi Xiao picked up some vegetables with his chopsticks and added them to her bowl, asking, "Aren’t you worried that making such noise will bring trouble?"

"In the middle of the night, and at the Mo Residence, others can only speculate at most. No one knows besides the people from the Mo Residence and you," Dugu Qianye replied.

"Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell?" Zi Xiao asked, seemingly offhand.

Dugu Qianye looked up and saw a pair of profound eyes. She finished the porridge in her bowl and said, "My intuition tells me, you won’t. I’ve finished eating, I’ll go rest a bit. Feel free to do as you please."

Suddenly colder in tone, Dugu Qianye stood up to leave and stopped at the door, "Even so, if you do talk, heaven and earth, you without me, me without you."

Having said that, Dugu Qianye went back to rest. Zi Xiao watched her figure, smiled, and while tidying up the bowls, said, "How could I possibly betray your trust!"

A figure flashed by the doorway, Zi Xiao looked up and glanced at Ci Hun who had just appeared, hanging upside down from the roof beams.

Seeing that Zi Xiao only gave him a glance before continuing his cleanup, Ci Hun spoke, "Tsk, tsk, even doing the dishes now! Hey, you aren’t really planning to stick around here for good, are you?"

"That’s right, that’s exactly what I’m planning!" nodded Zi Xiao.

"You can’t be serious? If you don’t go back, who’s going to handle all the affairs?" Ci Hun exclaimed.

Zi Xiao glared at Ci Hun and said, "Keep your voice down, she’s gone to rest. Don’t disturb her."

"Seriously? I’ve followed you for so many years. You’ve only seen her a few times, known her for just a few days, and this is how you treat me. You choose romance over brotherhood!" Ci Hun complained.

"This is how it is, not satisfied?" Zi Xiao said, unfazed by Ci Hun’s complaints, giving him a cold look.

"Fine. What can I do?" Ci Hun grumbled discontentedly, "So, when do you plan on going back?"

"I’ll leave once I’ve secured an irreplaceable place in her heart. Otherwise, someone else might get there first, and I’d regret it to death. Hei Zi and the others will take care of things, otherwise, what’s the use of keeping them if they can’t even feed themselves?"

"What kind of person are you? Not handling the real business, just chasing after a woman," muttered Ci Hun.

After returning to her room, Dugu Qianye fell into a deep sleep until it was time for dinner. Zi Xiao meanwhile passed the time alone in the courtyard. As evening came, Dugu Qianye’s room door opened. Zi Xiao, who was having tea at the stone table in the courtyard, lifted his head and said, "Come have a cup of tea."

Dugu Qianye walked over and sat down. Zi Xiao flipped over a cup from the tea tray and poured her a cup.

Dugu Qianye lifted the teacup and sniffed it right below her nose, saying, "It smells great."

Then she took a gentle sip and said, "The taste is very good, and the timing is just right. You weren’t timing it for when I’d come out, were you?"

"Hehe, I didn’t time it for your arrival, I’ve just brewed it many times already," Zi Xiao said nonchalantly.

"Has your friend left?" Dugu Qianye asked.

"You knew he was here? Seems like nothing can be hidden from you," Zi Xiao chuckled and said, "He came for a bit and then left."

"And you? When are you leaving?" Dugu Qianye asked.

"Are you trying to drive me away?" Zi Xiao felt dejected. "I haven’t planned on leaving yet!"

Dugu Qianye got goosebumps from Zi Xiao’s tone of voice. She asked, "Has anyone ever told you that this doesn’t suit your temperament at all?"

Zi Xiao blinked and said, "Nope! Because no one has ever seen me like this."

"Why are you sticking around here? What’s really the reason?" Dugu Qianye genuinely couldn’t think of a reason for him to stay.

"For the purpose that keeps me here!"

"And what is that purpose?"

"To be with you, to make you get used to the presence of me!"

Dugu Qianye was speechless. Did it have to be phrased in such a way that led to wild speculation?

In fact, she couldn’t understand why she had let him stay. Moreover, interacting with him felt completely natural, as if they had known each other for a very long time. But it didn’t mean she would truly believe everything he said.

Unable to argue with him, Dugu Qianye stood up and said, "Didn’t you say you were going to treat me to dinner? I’ll cook for you tonight."

Dugu Qianye made several Sichuan dishes that were so spicy that Zi Xiao’s tears and snot flowed freely. However, he kept wiping with a tissue while stuffing his mouth with food. Actually, people from the Xuanyue Continent didn’t eat much of spicy and numbing food. There were no chili peppers or Sichuan peppercorns here, but two other seasonings used instead, both of which had a bit of a bitter taste that affected the flavor when added to food.

Zi Xiao finished all the food, leaned back in his chair, and, patting his rounded belly, said, "I always thought that the food I made was quite delicious, but compared to yours, mine isn’t fit to eat!"

Dugu Qianye started clearing the bowls, saying, "It’s rare for a man like you to be able to cook."

In the following days, Dugu Qianye spent most of her time crafting elixirs for her family and paid no attention to Zi Xiao’s daily activities. She wouldn’t pry into others’ affairs unless they harmed her friends and family.

Meanwhile, Zi Xiao reported to Dugu Qianye’s place on time every day, preparing and delivering her meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sometimes he would go out, and sometimes Ci Hun would come to find him. Most of the time, however, he remained within Dugu Qianye’s sight.

One day, Mo Yin from the Mo Residence came to Dugu Qianye’s courtyard to collect elixirs and saw a pile of jade bottles on the ground.

"Are these all the ones you’ve crafted recently?" Mo Yin asked.

Dugu Qianye nodded.

"Really?" Mo Yin asked excitedly, "What’s your success rate for each batch?"
