Chapter 494: Chapter 494: The True and False Shennong Cauldron (2)_1
Before long, a man clad in a white robe entered. He bowed to Xiahou Chun and the Green Emperor Xiahou, saying, "Master, you called for me; what would you have me do?"
Xiahou Chun gestured for Xia Ming to sit down and said, "The master whom the Green Emperor recognized in the lower realms has arrived, and I have something I need you to do. ..."
Xiahou Chun briefly mentioned his agreement with Dugu Qianye, then told Xia Ming, "The day after tomorrow, you must ensure that she reveals her true abilities."
"But Master, why must this be done?" Xia Ming asked.
Xiahou Chun was silent for a while before saying, "The two of you are the future managers and pillars of the Alchemist Sect, and there are things you should be made aware of. Follow me."
Xiahou Chun tapped lightly three times on a pillar in the hall, causing the screen behind the main seat to slowly retract to both sides. Taking out an Illumination Pearl, he gave a meaningful look to the two stupefied individuals, who followed him inside.
They walked further in and arrived at a stone chamber where Xiahou Chun released four streams of Spiritual Power to ignite the lights on the four walls. As the brightness inside the chamber increased, they could see a large, square cauldron in the center.
"Father, isn’t that our Sect’s emblem? Why have you brought us here?" the Green Emperor Xiahou asked.
"Do you know what this is?" Xiahou Chun asked.
"The Shennong Cauldron," Xia Ming answered.
Xiahou Chun shook his head and, touching the cauldron, said, "This is not the Shennong Cauldron!"
Seeing their astonished expressions, Xiahou Chun said, "Our Alchemist Sect was established by the hands of the owner of the Shennong Cauldron, which is why it is our Alchemist Sect’s emblem and the object of our protection. However, the Shennong Cauldron later disappeared, and after a period of prosperity, our Sect began to decline. There has always been a mission passed down within our Sect, which is to find the Shennong Cauldron and restore the glory of old!"
The Green Emperor Xiahou and Xia Ming exchanged glances; they did not know that this Shennong Cauldron was a fake, nor were they aware of this mission!
"This is something only passed down verbally by successive Sect Masters, and had the circumstances not been special, I would not have disclosed this to you," Xiahou Chun said.
"But Father, what does this have to do with my master? Could it be that you suspect she has the Shennong Cauldron?" the Green Emperor Xiahou mused upon the reason they were brought here.
Xiahou Chun nodded his head.
"How does Master think she could be the owner of the Shennong Cauldron?" Xia Ming asked, puzzled.
"Because she can concoct top-grade Elixirs, and she’s already an eleventh-grade Alchemist at such a young age," Xiahou Chun explained.
"Perhaps her own master is also from our Sect and taught her those skills?" the Green Emperor Xiahou pondered. After all, it wasn’t uncommon for members of their Sect to leave, making this possibility quite plausible.
Xiahou Chun shook his head and said, "You all know that every person who enters the Sect is brought here by me." Green Emperor Xiahou and Xia Ming nodded; although they were born in the family and not outsiders, they were still aware of this practice.
Seeing the two nod, Xiahou Chun continued, "I bring them here to worship the Shennong Cauldron and to swear an oath to it that, even if they take on disciples after leaving, they will not reveal the method of producing top-grade elixirs. Therefore, it is impossible for outsiders to learn the method of producing top-grade elixirs. Moreover, her ability to craft eleventh-grade elixirs at such a young age is not something a normal genius could achieve. She must have received the inheritance of the Shennong Cauldron."
"If she truly is the successor of the Shennong Cauldron, why did Master want me to compete with her?" Xia Ming asked.
"That was merely an excuse I used to bring her over, while also verifying whether she is the owner of the Shennong Cauldron. If she is, her techniques should be similar to ours, or even more precise," replied Xiahou Chun.
Upon learning the truth, they left the stone chamber. Xiahou Chun glanced at the fake Shennong Cauldron in the center of the room with anticipation of the real Cauldron’s return, when it could retire with honors...
The next day at noon, when the people from the Transmission Array regained consciousness, Green Emperor Xiahou came to see them. Knowing that Dugu Qianye might be a successor of the Shennong Cauldron, he looked at her with an involuntary sense of obedience.
The master of the Shennong Cauldron is the master of the Alchemist Sect! This is the first rule of the Alchemist Sect.
Dugu Qianye prepared lunch for them, and noticing that Green Emperor Xiahou was acting strange, she asked, "What’s wrong with you today?"
Green Emperor Xiahou shook his head and said, "Nothing. Let me tell you about my senior brother. He has been able to craft advance level eleventh-grade elixirs for a few years now, and he should have already broken through to top-grade by now. So Master, you must give it your all! Whether I can take you as my master depends entirely on you!"
Dugu Qianye gave Green Emperor Xiahou a disdainful look; it was him who insisted on becoming a disciple, but now he made it seem as though she was eager to accept him!
Early the next day, Green Emperor Xiahou took Dugu Qianye and Jian Yuezhi to the first Alchemy Room. When they arrived, Xiahou Chun and Xia Ming were already waiting there. Seeing their eagerness, Dugu Qianye felt even more doubtful.
"Here you are. Let’s begin then," Xiahou Chun said, looking at the two.
Everything in the first Alchemy Room, the Pill Furnace, and the medicinal herbs, was prepared. Xia Ming, upon receiving Xiahou Chun’s command, saluted Dugu Qianye with cupped fists, then went to select his herbs. Dugu Qianye observed the herbs he picked and, seeing the anticipation on Green Emperor Xiahou’s face, sighed, knowing she had to showcase her true abilities that day.
After taking some herbs from the storehouse and adding a few of her own, she started the alchemy process next to Xia Ming. It had to be said that Xia Ming indeed had some skill; whether in extracting from the herbs or in controlling the heat, everything was precise. Not a bit of essence was wasted, and not a trace of impurity remained. The flames roared when they needed to and simmered gently when required. The entire process flowed like clouds and water, and coupled with his celestial demeanor, it was delightful to behold!
Dugu Qianye carefully watched Xia Ming’s actions, confirming that he was capable of crafting eleventh-grade elixirs, but whether he could make top-grade elixirs would depend on his formation method later on.
Xiahou Chun was watching Dugu Qianye all along; from the moment she began extracting materials, he became excited. By the time Dugu Qianye was forming the pill, Xiahou Chun was beyond words.
The elixirs both were crafting weren’t particularly complex, and being familiar with eleventh-grade elixirs, they didn’t take long to complete, finishing almost simultaneously. However, during the Pill Tribulation at the end, Dugu Qianye’s elixir endured an additional Pill Thunder, experiencing two in total!
Once the Pill Clouds dispersed, they placed their elixirs on the table. Both had crafted top-grade eleventh-grade elixirs, but Dugu Qianye’s, having been through two Pill Thunders, was slightly superior to Xia Ming’s.
