Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Wuyou Island (4)_1
When I passed by the kitchen, I saw Xiaosi preparing lunch and walked in.
"Xiaosi, what’s for lunch today?" Dugu Qianye asked as she looked at the busy Xiaosi.
"There’s already food on the table, you can have a look." All of the meals on the island were prepared by him alone, and although there weren’t many people, it was still a considerable amount of work.
"Xiaosi, where are your brothers?"
"They went on patrol."
Patrol? She had walked around the yard and hadn’t seen them. She looked at the lunch again; it was sumptuous with three dishes and a soup for each person. Maybe because there would be vegetables at night, the medicinal powder was not added to the lunch.
After lunch, Dugu Qianye spent the afternoon studying the Refining Manual in her room until late into the night.
"Jiang Yu, let’s set off."
Dugu Qianye left a bit earlier tonight, and she and Jiang Yu waited at the entrance for the appearance of Xiaoyi and the others. She had searched every nook and cranny of the courtyard the night before and during the day, finding no trace of them, and since Xiaoyi and his group were often not in the yard, she guessed that the torture room wasn’t here at all. The best way to find the torture room was to follow them.
Indeed, before long, Xiaoyi and Xiao’er came towards the gate, discussing that tonight they must get words out of that person’s mouth. After they left, Dugu Qianye and Jiang Yu followed from a distance.
Xiaoyi and the others had walked for nearly half an hour after leaving the yard, taking several turns and finally entering a grove. Dugu Qianye quietly snuck in and saw rows of buildings similar to the prison cells of the Thunder Temple. She exchanged a look with Jiang Yu, confirming that this was indeed the torture room.
Xiaoyi and Xiao’er walked over, and two people resembling prison guards came forward talking about the situation inside. The three of them talked as they walked toward the middle room. Dugu Qianye crept to the window and peered inside at the dimly lit room. The arrangement of the room and the torture tools were almost identical to those of the Thunder Temple.
"Bring that person up," Xiaoyi and Xiao’er instructed the people below after entering.
Soon, a prison guard dragged a figure in from a small door at the back. The person was bruised and battered all over, with clothes torn into strips by the whip, hanging off the body. The skin exposed outside was scorched black from branding irons, faintly emitting the smell of burnt flesh, with black blood clots gluing the clothes to the mangled skin, tearing off in chunks with any movement. His greying hair was in disarray, covering his face.
The person seemed to lack even the strength to walk and was dragged along by the prison guard, leaving behind two trails of blood.
"First Master, Second Master, the person has been brought here," the prison guard said, after throwing the body to the ground.
Looking at the heap on the floor, Xiaoyi said, "This old man, unexpectedly tough for his age."
"Hmph, we’ve wasted too much time on him. If we can’t get anything out of him tonight, we’ll just finish him off," Xiao’er said with disgust.
"What’s the rush? Life on the island is boring anyway. Having this thing to entertain us is a good thing," Xiaoyi said lazily, then pointed to someone, "You, feed him some elixir to keep him alive. We don’t want him dying as soon as we start torturing."
Following the order, the prison guard took out a Jade Bottle from his ring, poured out a Recovery Pill, pried open the prisoner’s clenched mouth, and roughly fed him. It was the cheapest kind of Recovery Pill, only ensuring he wouldn’t die right away. After swallowing the elixir, the prison guard threw him back to the ground.
Although he had taken an elixir, the pill’s grade was too low and his injuries too severe, so its effect was not significant. When the prison guard threw him down, the man lay on the ground, facing upwards.
From outside the window, Dugu Qianye finally saw the man’s face clearly, and anger surged within her like an erupting volcano. It was Youwu! Despite being beaten beyond recognition, she still identified him. Those bright and spirited eyes were now tightly shut, and his once plump face had become haggard, with his cheekbones protruding sharply. His eyebrows were subconsciously furrowed, conveying the immense pain he was enduring!
Seeing Youwu tormented so miserably, Dugu Qianye could barely contain her emotions and was on the verge of storming in and tearing the people inside to pieces.
Witnessing Dugu Qianye trembling with anger, Jiang Yu knew she was one of the people he was looking for. He had always thought her to be arrogant and haughty, never imagining she could be so enraged over someone else. Sensing her impulse to charge inside, he grabbed her hand.
Swamped by anger and losing her reason, Dugu Qianye was only brought back to her senses when Jiang Yu pulled her. Seeing Youwu’s grandfather lying there inside and thinking of the many classmates in Holy Sea City, she struggled to suppress her impulse.
As Dugu Qianye slowly regained her composure, Jiang Yu said, "I have a way."
"What way?" Dugu Qianye asked, "Speak quickly, Youwu Grandfather is fading fast!"
Knowing her anxiety, he didn’t take offence at her rudeness in that moment.
"I’ll cast an illusion to make them think Youwu is still there while they are actually mistreating the prison guard," Jiang Yu pointed to the guard who had brought Youwu out and explained.
"But they will find out afterwards, won’t they?"
"I’ll alter their memories so they believe that person is your Youwu Grandfather, and the one to be interrogated is him. All we need to do is ensure that person can’t speak."
"Good."
Jiang Yu clasped his hands together to form a seal, and slowly, a faint white mist arose, enveloping everyone in the room in silence.
Once done, Jiang Yu signaled that it was time to go in. Dugu Qianye burst into the room to Youwu’s side, took out a Sacred Rhinoceros Pill from her ring, fed it to him, and then called out to him, "Youwu Grandfather, Youwu Grandfather, wake up."
Youwu opened his eyes with difficulty and fainted before he could utter a word. Dugu Qianye took Youwu to the Refining Demon Pot, then said to Jiang Yu, "We need to go back quickly."
Jiang Yu manipulated the mist again, altering the memories of those in the Phantom Realm. Dugu Qianye went to the prison guard, clutched his throat, located his vocal cords, and crushed them with force. Then, she kicked him fiercely several times.
After leaving the torture chamber, Dugu Qianye summoned Xiaohuo and asked her to carry them back to her room. Once there, she said, "Jiang Yu, can you alter the memories of all the prison guards here, making them think I was never here?"
"I can do that, but they communicate with the Divine Temple daily, and if they’re clueless when asked, it’ll still be troublesome. I can create a phantom of you, nearly indistinguishable from the real thing. However, it can only last a few days."
"Really? Thank you so much!" said Dugu Qianye, "We must return to Holy Sea City before tomorrow morning. Tomorrow, Shen Xingzong plans to take everyone to the altar to worship the Divine Master, and I’m guessing he might brainwash them. Now, only you can stop the Divine Temple. I’m going to heal Youwu Grandfather, and you get the phantom ready. We’ll leave shortly."
