Chapter 127: Chapter 127 Sea Battle (1)_1
All the Light Star Grass were distributed to the students, one for each person. Dugu Qianye received hers, still with soil at the roots, reflecting a silver-white light under the moonlight. She brought the Light Star Grass to her nose for a sniff and faintly detected a fishy smell.
"Qianye, let’s stick together in a bit," Mo Ziqing came over to Dugu Qianye and said.
"Okay."
"Hey hey hey, I want to join you guys too," Dan Jingtian popped his head out from behind Mo Ziqing, looking at Dugu Qianye. He said, "Who knows, you might sneak off to have a barbecue. Bro, you can’t abandon me!"
Hearing Dan Jingtian’s words, Dugu Qianye couldn’t help but roll her eyes. She sincerely didn’t want to deal with this off-the-wall guy.
Everyone got into groups and after eating the dinner prepared by the Divine Temple, they set out to look for Light Star Grass, leaving only two teachers behind in the tents to rest.
The island was vast, and even with their large numbers, once they dispersed, they surprisingly couldn’t see anyone else.
"What kind of Phantom Beasts do you think are on this island? Are they different from the ones on the Continent?"
The trio of Dugu Qianye were walking in the woods on the island. The moonlight was hazy, and the three of them strolled leisurely without solely focusing on finding the Light Star Grass. Dan Jingtian, while fiddling with a tree leaf he had casually picked, asked the other two.
"I don’t know. Won’t we find out once we see them?" Dugu Qianye responded. She was also very curious about the Phantom Beasts of the Phantom Sea’s Jiang Yu area.
"In the middle of the night, we aren’t familiar with this place; it’s best if we don’t encounter any Phantom Beasts," Mo Ziqing said with a smile.
"That’s not something we can control by wishing. We don’t know where the Phantom Beasts are; perhaps the next second one will appear right in front of us," Dan Jingtian said.
As it turned out, he had quite the potential for being a jinx.
A group of gigantic crocodiles appeared right as he finished his sentence—not so much appeared as they had walked right into a group of sleeping crocodiles. Their footsteps and conversation had awakened them.
The gigantic crocodiles were naturally aggressive, a Phantom Beast unique to the Phantom Sea, amphibious both on water and land. An adult crocodile could be approximately 3 to 5 meters long, its body covered in nodules full of venom. During an attack, the venom would seep out and poison the opponent. Their sharp teeth were also deadly weapons.
The crocodiles, unhappy about having their sleep disturbed, saw that it was just three tiny humans and immediately surrounded them.
"Damn it, really?" Dan Jingtian stared at the ten or twenty gigantic crocodiles in disbelief. Although the group of crocodiles wasn’t of a very high level—if they haven’t yet reached that of a Holy Beast—,he swore he was just speaking off the cuff.
"Golden jinx," Dugu Qianye said with a laugh, and then she pulled out a Longsword from her Space Ring and attacked the crocodile in front of her.
Mo Ziqing also laughed and said, "Indeed, gold medal level."
Dan Jingtian, feeling ridiculed by the two, gathered a Phantom Power Sphere and threw it, blasting the crocodile in front right to pieces, angrily saying, "That’ll teach you to appear now! Teach you to show up! Hmph!"
The crocodiles were soon cleared out by the trio, their dismembered bodies and venom dripping everywhere, corroding the flowers and plants around.
"That’s disgusting," said Dan Jingtian with a look of revulsion.
"You did that. Let’s hurry up and get out of here," Mo Ziqing said. The fight just now, although minor, could still disturb other nearby Phantom Beasts. Plus, the smell of blood could easily attract more Phantom Beasts.
"Wait a moment," Dugu Qianye suddenly spoke up. "Look."
Following Dugu Qianye’s gaze, Dan Jingtian and Mo Ziqing saw a dense thicket with two dismembered corpses within.
"What’s wrong?" Dan Jingtian glanced over casually and asked.
"There’s Light Star Grass," Mo Ziqing observed more carefully, spotting a few faintly glowing strands of Light Star Grass amid the undergrowth. Due to the small number and the surrounding weeds being plentiful, they hadn’t noticed before.
"Eh? Really? Let’s quickly pick them and leave this place," Dan Jingtian said, reaching out to pick them.
"Don’t pick them yet," Dugu Qianye stopped him. "Look at the roots of the Light Star Grass."
Dan Jingtian and Mo Ziqing took a closer look and were shocked.
"Is, is this absorbing blood?" Dan Jingtian exclaimed.
Dugu Qianye nodded, saying, "It seems so. The blood from these two dismembered corpses has flowed here, and was all absorbed by these few strands of Light Star Grass."
"What exactly is the use of this Light Star Grass?" Mo Ziqing asked.
"Not sure. But it doesn’t feel like anything good," Dugu Qianye said, "I don’t know what the Divine Temple is collecting it for."
"Who cares what they’re doing with it, as long as it’s got nothing to do with us," Dan Jingtian said. "Let’s just pick them and get out of here."
Did it really have nothing to do with them? Dugu Qianye was doubtful but said nothing more, watching Dan Jingtian finish picking all the Light Star Grass and storing them in a Space Ring.
"The Saintess mentioned earlier that Light Star Grass grows in patches, so there should still be more around here. Let’s look around, we should be able to find it," Mo Ziqing said.
The three of them started searching the nearby area and indeed found a patch of Light Star Grass not far ahead. They called out their Beasts and picked together.
After finishing their harvest, the trio of Dugu Qianye returned to the camp. When they arrived, they found that people had already started coming back, and a disciple of the Divine Temple was collecting everyone’s findings. Dugu Qianye didn’t hand over all the Light Star Grass to the Divine Temple; she kept some and had Dudu plant them in the Refining Demon Pot.
Ever since she had started studying "Thousand Spiders and Ten Thousand Poisons," she began to take note of poisonous herbs and had Dudu specially clear a plot of land to plant them. She instructed Dudu to plant the Light Star Grass in the poison field, and although she didn’t know its use yet, her intuition told her it was poisonous.
Fen Jian sat by the campfire, smiling as he watched everyone giving their Light Star Grass to the Divine Temple, occasionally exchanging a few words with Fen Li. Seeing Dugu Qianye return, he nodded at her.
Once everyone who had gone out returned to the camp and handed in their Light Star Grass, within just a few hours, they had gathered a mountainous pile. Shen Wanqing collected the Light Star Grass into a Space Ring and approached Fen Jian, saying, "The harvest tonight is not bad; it looks like we can continue on our way tomorrow."
"Every time we pass through Huisha Bay, we collect Light Star Grass, yet no one knows what the Light Star Grass is used for. Don’t you find that strange?" Fen Jian asked.
"What’s there to find strange? We’re not Alchemists," Shen Wanqing replied. "We leave early tomorrow morning, don’t oversleep. If you do, you might end up left here to spend a few months until the next group passes through."
Shen Wanqing looked at Fen Jian’s face instantly stiffen and left, satisfied. Fen Li watched from the side, wanting to laugh but daring not to, trying hard to restrain himself.
"Young Pavilion Master, you should rest early. Otherwise, you really won’t wake up in time tomorrow morning..." Fen Li advised from the side.
