Chapter 125: Chapter 125 First Encounter (2)_1
Associating her own inexplicable aversion to the Divine Temple, she thought that the forgotten memory must be related to the Divine Temple. But Little Qianye was so young back then, how could she be connected to the Divine Temple? What exactly happened that year that made her force herself to forget?
As Dugu Qianye pondered, she stepped onto the gangplank, too engrossed in her thoughts to notice that she was the last one, nor did she notice Shen Wanqing’s unusual expression.
"Swoosh—"
Just as Dugu Qianye was about to reach the ship, the sound of a sharp weapon whistling through the air interrupted her contemplation. She looked up and saw a Silver Serpent Whip hurtling towards her, the other end held by the Hall Master of the Divine Temple.
Shen Wanqing!
Dugu Qianye’s gaze darkened as she quickly stepped back to dodge the whip. But Shen Wanqing did not allow her time to react, whipping it out again, wrapping it around the gangplank, and with a tug, she flipped it over. Dugu Qianye had leapt onto another plank as soon as the whip wrapped around the first one, and just as she steadied herself, she saw the plank tossed into the sea.
"Shen Wanqing, what are you doing?" Fen Jian shouted at Shen Wanqing.
He was startled upon hearing the commotion and turning around to witness the gangplank being flipped. He had just been one step ahead of Dugu Qianye and did not expect that as soon as he boarded the ship, Shen Wanqing would launch an attack on Dugu Qianye. Now she was ten meters from the ship and twenty to thirty meters from the dock—if Shen Wanqing flipped the gangplank like before, she would not have time to retreat! And in front of her stood Shen Wanqing, blocking the way.
The other students had already moved to the front and, hearing Fen Jian’s loud shout, they all turned back to look. Seeing that Dugu Qianye was trapped on the gangplank, the students of the Mors Empire were furiously surging back.
"I haven’t done anything. I just heard that she’s ranked first in the individual combat trials and wanted to have a little spar with her. To see if this ’number one’ is just a paper tiger!" Shen Wanqing ignored everyone else and, after speaking, swung her whip at Dugu Qianye again.
Dugu Qianye watched Shen Wanqing with a cold gaze, wanting to know why she was attacking her. Hearing Shen Wanqing’s words, she snorted inwardly.
An excuse!
As the whip came at her again, Dugu Qianye, holding Xiaojiu, dodged consistently on the plank. Though Shen Wanqing’s attacks were fierce and aggressive, Dugu Qianye managed them with ease, never appearing as disheveled as everyone imagined, aside from the plank that shook incessantly, causing her balance to falter occasionally.
"What’s the point if you keep dodging?" Shen Wanqing became even more aggressive upon seeing Dugu Qianye continually evade her.
"And what’s the point of your surprise attack?" Dugu Qianye retorted.
"It’s just a spar," Shen Wanqing said.
"Is that so?" Dugu Qianye sneered, "But sparring with me comes at a price!"
The plank under their feet was nearly breaking from their combined forces. "Crack—" the plank began to split from under Dugu Qianye’s feet, causing those aboard the ship to break out in a cold sweat.
"Shen Wanqing, stop it!" Fen Jian yelled angrily at Shen Wanqing. He looked on anxiously, wanting to intervene, but then he caught Dugu Qianye’s eye, warning him to stay out of it!
With no place left to retreat and only a sliver of the plank remaining, Dugu Qianye stopped dodging. She tossed Xiaojiu onto the ship and, grabbing the incoming whip, pulled it backwards. Stepping hard on what was left of the plank, she unleashed the Ethereal Step Technique, and before the onlookers could react, she landed on the ship. Meanwhile, the plank broke in two and fell into the sea.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when they saw Dugu Qianye board the ship safely.
"Big brother, are you alright?" Sang Yu hurried to Dugu Qianye’s side and looked her over.
Dugu Qianye shook her head. With a tug on the whip, she coldly gazed at Shen Wanqing. With a mere thought, a stream of blue flames burst from her hand gripping the whip, swiftly spreading along it, and in the blink of an eye, the whip, over ten meters long, was reduced to ashes.
"You burned my Silver Serpent Whip!" Shen Wanqing cried out in agony.
Shen Wanqing hadn’t expected Dugu Qianye to actually destroy her whip. She hadn’t thought Dugu Qianye would dare defy her status as the Saintess of the Divine Temple. Nor had she imagined that Dugu Qianye’s flames could be so powerful, turning a low-grade Holy Artifact into ash in an instant.
"I said before, there’s a price to pay for sparring with me."
Dugu Qianye left those words behind and turned to leave without giving a second glance to Shen Wanqing, whose face was stricken with an ugly expression. Fen Li sent someone to greet her and took her to her room.
"How does it feel to take a loss?" Fen Jian jeered at Shen Wanqing after Dugu Qianye had left, "That was a low-grade Holy Artifact the Hall Master gave you, and just like that, it’s gone. You’ll surely have some explaining to do when you get back. Oh my, I’m really looking forward to it!"
"Hmph!" Shen Wanqing glared at Fen Jian and returned to her own room.
Fen Jian walked toward his room with a smile, but his mind was preoccupied. Could any regular Phantom Master accomplish what Dugu Qianye had pulled off upon boarding the ship? If it were him, could he have made it to the ship at the last moment? He had to admit, the answer was no. She seemed much more than what she let on to the world!
"Well, actually, what she’s shown already is pretty impressive," Fen Jian reflected to himself, "Oh my, I’m really looking forward to it!"
The others gradually returned to their rooms as well. Everything seemed to have come to an end, but in the hearts of those from the Empire College, the enthusiasm for visiting the Divine Temple had noticeably cooled. To trouble their big brother was to trouble them, wasn’t it?
Now that everyone was aboard, Fen Li instructed the helmsman to set sail, and the large ship began its voyage toward Holy Sea City.
The Phantom Sea Domain is a vast and boundless ocean, dotted with innumerable islands and teeming with countless Water Phantom Beasts. The sea surface is forever shrouded in white mist, causing ordinary ships to lose their way upon entering its domain and to eventually disappear at sea for various reasons. No one knows just how wide and vast the Phantom Sea Domain really is. Even the Divine Temple, whose main temple is located on one of the islands, possesses only a slightly better understanding of the Phantom Sea than others.
The large ship sailed lonely across the sea, and Fen Li coordinated everything on board.
"Sister, that Shen Wanqing is so annoying, you should have burned her to ashes too!" Xiaohuo sat on the bed, fists clenched, saying furiously.
"Haha, you still have such a fiery temper. We haven’t even arrived at the Divine Temple yet, if we burned their Saintess, how are we supposed to go there?" Dugu Qianye tapped Xiaohuo’s nose, smiling as she spoke.
"Hmph, I just can’t stand the people from the Divine Temple, they’re all so annoying, a bunch of false diviners!" Xiaohuo grumbled.
Perhaps due to the bond of the life contract, Xiaohuo’s feelings towards the Divine Temple were very similar to Dugu Qianye’s, or rather, Dugu Qianye’s feelings were hers. But why exactly did she loathe the Divine Temple so much? What was in that forgotten fragment of her memory?
Confirming to herself that she really couldn’t remember, she stopped dwelling on it and sat cross-legged on the bed to start her cultivation. Seeing Dugu Qianye ignoring her, Xiaohuo had no choice but to chat with Xiaojiu, helping to keep an eye on the situation outside while concocting a plan to prank someone.
