Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Spiritual Power Beast Tamer (3)_1
He was not surprised, but that did not mean others were not. Everywhere they passed, exclamations of awe were heard. A carriage pulled by four Holy Beasts, how impressive! What was more important was that someone with such strength must belong to a major power!
Those inside the carriage were indifferent to the outside reactions. Once aboard, Dugu Qianye pulled out the book "Thousand Spiders and Ten Thousand Poisons" and began to read, while Gao Liang closed his eyes to cultivate. Others only saw their aura of greatness, but knew nothing of their hard work and struggles behind it.
The Swiftwind Wolf, true to its wind attribute as a Phantom Beast, shaved the journey down from six days to just four days to reach Tong City.
Gao Liang had sent a message home early, so when they arrived at the City Lord’s Mansion, they saw the City Lord of Tong City waiting outside with his attendants.
Gao Yi, the City Lord of Tong City, was nearly fifty, yet looked to be in his thirties. His strength was at the peak of the Phantom Emperor level, but it was said that he had reached this peak several years ago.
Standing behind him were his second son, Gao Suo, and his third son, Gao Qi, one with a cunning look and the other grim and venomous. His eldest son, Gao Ming, was away and had not returned.
"Dad, Baili Xie is just a junior, is there really a need for you to personally receive him?! Isn’t this degrading your status?" Gao Suo spoke up.
"What do you know!" Gao Yi scolded, "That’s a person who can make the ground shake with a stamp of his foot. Such a person deserves a personal reception not just from a City Lord like myself, but even from His Majesty!"
Chided by his own father, Gao Suo dared not say anything, but his eyes still showed disdain.
Seeing his older brother scolded, Gao Qi’s eyes flickered but he remained silent.
Soon, a carriage pulled by four Holy Beasts appeared in the sight of everyone. Since they were in the city, Dugu Qianye did not travel at extreme speed to avoid colliding with others.
"Strutting through the streets!" exclaimed Gao Suo.
Gao Yi gave him a glare, for there was no time to chastise him now.
Getting off the carriage, Gao Liang called out to Gao Yi, "City Lord."
Following him, Dugu Qianye raised his eyebrows slightly, then his expression naturally returned to normal as he disembarked.
Gao Yi, with a look of affection, nodded at Gao Liang and extended his hand to pat his shoulder. But seeing that Gao Liang was just looking at him coldly, he let his hand fall back to his side. Then he stepped forward to greet Dugu Qianye with a raised hand, "Haha, this must be Baili Xie, right?"
"Uncle, hello!" Dugu Qianye walked up to Gao Yi and greeted him politely.
"Hmm, a fine young man!" Gao Yi looked at Dugu Qianye with nothing but appreciation in his eyes. "Thank you for taking care of my son."
"Hehe, Uncle, you are too polite. Gao Liang is my friend," Dugu Qianye said with a smile.
"Good, good," Gao Yi replied with a smile. "Since you’re here, why not stay a few days at the City Lord’s Mansion?"
"Thank you for your kind offer, Uncle, but I must hurry on to Ye City," Dugu Qianye said apologetically.
"Big brother, you go ahead to Ye City," Gao Liang suddenly spoke, "City Lord, Big Brother has business in Ye City."
When Gao Yi heard Gao Liang’s form of address, a flash of pain crossed his eyes, then disappeared.
"If that’s the case, I won’t insist. But you must come and visit when you return."
Dugu Qianye bid farewell to Gao Yi and boarded the carriage to start her journey. She noticed that something was off between Gao Liang and his father, and saw the hateful looks his two older brothers gave him. However, since he didn’t speak of it, she felt it wasn’t her place to say anything.
Once out of Tong City, Dugu Qianye instructed the Swiftwind Wolves not to run so fast and to stop for breaks occasionally. Despite this, they still arrived at Ye City by evening two days later.
Outside the city, Dugu Qianye put the beast carriage back into the Refining Demon Pot and called out Xiaohuo. Together, they entered the city.
"Sister, are we going to the Sang Family now?" Xiaohuo asked. Over this period, they had also learned about Sang Yu’s situation. Wasn’t it very similar to sister’s past? The only difference was the goals of the two families; the Mo Family had done so to protect Dugu Qianye.
"Wait a bit."
Dugu Qianye led Xiaohuo to a hotel to settle down. This hotel wasn’t the best in Ye City, but it was the closest to the Sang Family’s residence, separated only by a street. They followed the waiter to their room. Dugu Qianye had specially requested this room, from which she could see the Sang Family’s large mansion just by standing by the window.
After sending the waiter away, Dugu Qianye flashed into the Refining Demon Pot. Dudu took her to the place where Sang Yu was cultivating.
"How is her training progressing?" Dugu Qianye asked Dudu inwardly.
"She tried twice and failed both times. But she’s working hard. She should succeed in a month or two," Dudu replied, casually wiping his drool on her clothes.
Despite looking like a small child of two or three years old, Dudu was an Artifact Spirit who had lived through ancient times. His experience was surely that of a wizened old demon.
Xiaohuo watched as Dudu wiped his saliva on Dugu Qianye, showing disdain. Dugu Qianye didn’t know, but all the beasts in the Refining Demon Pot were well aware that Dudu was doing it on purpose, since he never drooled at other times!
"Mhm. Let her continue to cultivate diligently. Regardless of the result, have her come out in two months. The Sang Family will be facing big events in the next few days," Dugu Qianye instructed Dudu.
"Sister, how do you know something is going to happen in the Sang Family?" After coming out of the Refining Demon Pot, Xiaohuo asked Dugu Qianye.
Dugu Qianye took Xiaohuo to the window and said, "Look at the gatekeepers of the Sang Family, and those entering and leaving, their faces barely contain their excitement. But if you look at the yard on the far right, it’s clean and obviously inhabited, yet no lights are lit despite it being late. This means that the people there are not happy, perhaps even bothered or sad. And notice outside the yard, every ten steps there’s a servant; clearly, they are guarding someone inside."
"What could it be?" Xiaohuo asked.
"I don’t know."
"Let’s sneak in and take a look."
Dugu Qianye thought for a moment, found it feasible, and flashed with Xiaohuo towards infiltrating the Sang Family’s large estate.
Meanwhile, a figure walked into the courtyard they were discussing. The guards outside saw the figure and shouted in unison, "Second Master."
The figure didn’t answer and went straight into the courtyard.
"Why is it so dark? Can’t you light the lamps?" The newcomer furrowed his brow and ordered, "Someone, light the lamps for the lady."
A guard brought a lamp inside, brightening the pitch-dark room immediately. This enabled the two who had just arrived outside to see the person within clearly.
The newcomer had a face around thirty years old and could be considered handsome. Hearing the servant addressing him as Second Master meant he was Sang Yu’s father, Sang Yijun. In the inner room, there was a woman lying on a rocking chair with a face 70% similar to Sang Yu’s but with a maturity and charm Sang Yu lacked. This must be Sang Yu’s mother, Chen Yiran. Considering the father’s ordinary appearance, it seemed Sang Yu inherited her beauty from her mother.
"I heard you haven’t eaten for two days?" Sang Yijun saw the untouched meal on the table and asked the person on the rocking chair with a frown.
