Misguided practice of sinister cultivation techniques: Slander! The problem lies with you all, not me! -
Chapter 57 I’m That Silly Bird
Chapter 57: Chapter 57 I’m That Silly Bird
It was the dead of night now, with outside pitch dark and without any lights, so when Duan Yun dashed out, the Murong brothers saw him going to look for his sister.
He used to feel the same way, as if always in spring, restless and impatient inside, soon finding the "one destined for him".
But Duan Yun’s situation should be even more severe, after all, this guy reached the Seventh Layer of Spring Rain realm in less than a night.
He could no longer care whether this speed was inconceivable and unreasonable.
Because if he keeps fussing over this, he might go mad.
All he knew was that Duan Yun’s progress to the Twelve Layers of Spring Rain realm was fierce, so fierce it was inconceivable; then what about the curse this guy encountered?
Would it be fierce as well?
It can’t be that only I am cursed, while this guy gets off scot-free, right?
Thinking about how his own "Master" level was not stable at the Sixth Layer of Spring Rain, and Duan Yun, whom he guided, had already trained to the Seventh Layer, the Murong brothers felt complex emotions.
Before, he had been waiting for death at Yuzhu Villa, as if he had seen through everything.
But tonight, as he watched himself being surpassed, he inevitably couldn’t stay calm at heart, and a competitive spirit emerged, no longer as serene as the Sage.
After all, that was his proudest blade technique!
So, in the darkness of night, the Murong brothers began to carefully recall the details they had witnessed, wondering: "Was it him cursing when he roared? Can roaring ’his curse!’ really lead to such rapid progress in blade techniques?"
"His curse! His curse, the Twelve Layers of Spring Rain swirling!"
The Murong brothers attempted to roar in Duan Yun’s tone.
After the roar, he didn’t notice anything unusual.
It seems like it needs to be combined with the blade technique!
For a moment, the Murong brothers felt an itch in their hands.
I must be able to have a breakthrough too!
It makes no sense for me, a blade technique prodigy who has practiced for twenty years, to be worse than him!
...
At night, Duan Yun went straight to the lakeside.
The Murong brothers asked him if there was any change, and he felt it.
That was a strong impulse.
An uncontrollable urge.
That was the desire to fish the box out of the lake.
Could it be that after practicing the "Twelve Layers of Spring Rain," his curiosity became even stronger?
Damn it, this is indeed life-threatening.
He had cursed his own curiosity before, saying curiosity killed the cat, and now it seemed to have gotten worse.
This blade technique is indeed not trivial.
Duan Yun stood by the lake, where the nighttime waters shimmered with a cold light, like a netherworldly specter, deep and terrifying.
He ultimately couldn’t suppress the urge, not even wanting to wait for daylight, and with a gulp, dived into the water.
Unlike the last time he dived in to salvage the box, perhaps because of the season, the lake water carried a piercing chill.
Duan Yun could feel the flow of water in the domain, and in this dark, sullen water, it seemed as if some massive creature was moving.
He couldn’t help but think of the rumors he had heard in the town about the Carp Spirit eating people.
Duan Yun got to the chest, pulled it out of the silt with a tug.
This chest, also not light...
Less than half an hour later, Duan Yun came back, and the Murong brothers asked curiously, "Did you find your sister that quickly?"
"What ’your sister’?" Duan Yun said while changing his clothes.
Murong hesitated to speak.
Duan Yun realized something and said, "Brother, I’ve told you, I’m a one-in-a-million cultivation prodigy, and my dad is a legitimate doctor, so the curse doesn’t work on me. I was just really happy and wanted to take a walk in the rain, that’s all."
Murong truly didn’t see any woman’s figure, and besides, in such a short period of time, even with his dad’s indiscretions, it couldn’t have been possible to find "the one" so fast, not to mention that Duan Yun’s dad was very proper.
Having been frightened all night long, to the point where his soul was nearly scared away, and failing to get the scoop he wanted, Murong was not feeling well.
Worse than if he had gone hungry for a month or two.
Even now, he still felt it was absurd, as if he were in the midst of a strange dream.
The shock he experienced tonight, in both degree and intensity, was comparable to discovering multiple times that his lover was his half-sister by the same father.
At this point, Duan Yun suddenly asked, "Do you know about the large chest at the bottom of the lake?"
Murong, lying there, replied, "Yeah, I do."
"Why has no one salvaged it? After all, that chest looks like it contains some nice treasures," Duan Yun couldn’t help asking.
He really couldn’t understand why, out of two chests in two places, he seemed to be the only one with any curiosity.
Murong said, "Haven’t you heard of a certain anecdote?"
"What anecdote?"
"It is said that once there was a very young and skilled Hunter who had a natural talent for hunting. One day, he unexpectedly caught a bear-man alive in a trap. The young Hunter and his companions tied the bear-man up, ready to carry it back, but halfway through, they discovered a chest in the underbrush."
Duan Yun listened attentively.
"The young Hunter was curious about why such a large chest would appear in the wild. He couldn’t resist opening it to look inside and discovered a very beautiful maiden.
Finding a beautiful girl in a chest in the wilderness, the young Hunter was surprised and a little afraid. By then, the girl had woken up, and he quickly asked her what happened."
At this point, Murong paused for a moment, looking for water to drink.
Duan Yun hurriedly gave him a bowl of water which he placed on his chest, and after taking a sip, Murong continued, "It turns out she was a rich young lady from a family of gold, whose home was robbed by two Monks, and her entire family was murdered."
Duan Yun asked, "How did she end up in the chest?"
Murong replied, "Those two Monks were bold enough to rob and murder, so clearly they were not good Monks. Attracted by her beauty, they hid her in the chest, planning to take her back and violate her."
"In the middle of their journey, they encountered some trouble and had to temporarily abandon the chest in the wild grass of the wilderness, intending to return for it after resolving their issues."
"After hearing the rich young lady’s story, the Hunter felt sympathetic towards her and rescued her from the chest, then put the newly caught bear-man inside it instead."
As he said this, Murong stopped speaking again, and Duan Yun, unable to wait, said, "What happened then?"
Murong said, "Afterward, to thank the young Hunter for saving her life, the rich young lady married him."
"That’s it?" Duan Yun asked with confusion.
"That’s it. The tale of the rich young lady and the young Hunter ends there, but a strange incident later occurred in the city."
"One day, the largest inn in the city, the Sky Room, had two new guests wearing brand-new hats, carrying with them a large chest. They told the inn’s helper not to disturb them at all.
Later the helper heard strange noises coming from their room and though afraid to inquire, he couldn’t resist listening from the outside."
"Suddenly, a bear-man burst out of the room, its mouth stained with blood and flesh. After the bear-man fled in panic, the helper dared to look inside the room. It was a complete mess, with two Monks lying dead within, their faces showing indescribable surprise and fear."
Murong chuckled, "Of course, in their wildest dreams, the Monks wouldn’t expect the rich young lady in the chest to turn into a bear-man."
Duan Yun asked, "What are you trying to explain with this anecdote?"
"What am I trying to explain? It’s that good people receive good karma, that there are only a few Monks in the world with the hearts of Bodhisattvas. They are up to all sorts of stealing, violating, and killing. But most importantly, don’t be like a dumb bird and casually open a chest of unknown origin, for an unexpected bear might pop out and eat you."
Murong thought the story was amusing and couldn’t help but laugh.
He expected Duan Yun to laugh as well, but instead saw him standing there, not saying a word, looking displeased.
He couldn’t help asking, "Why do you look so unhappy?"
Duan Yun replied, "Because I am that dumb bird."
With that, he went outside and soon dragged in a large chest.
Murong: "..."
