Miho the Killer -
Chapter 75: Sudden Change
Chapter 75: Sudden Change
19:55
We arrived in Gangnam with Shin’s car and parked two blocks away from Club Volta, where the operation was to start in 50 minutes - 20:45.
The whole sequence was well-briefed multiple times.
I was to enter a karaoke at the corner of this street around 20:10 and ’have a good time’ with Miho - Tiger - for 20 minutes. We all had a burner phone and Shin - Rat - was to orchestrate the whole operation from ’somewhere’, communicating through a messenger app.
Owl would cut off the CCTV inside Club Volta at around 20:30 and Miho would waltz into the club through the front door. Sleek.
"Change of plan, Ms. Han."
As soon as the car fully stopped and I was taking a deep breath before getting out, Shin interrupted me.
"You are going in with Tiger."
"What?!"
He couldn’t be serious.
"As I said. Change of plan. You are going in with Tiger. No karaoke for you tonight, I’m afraid. But you could enjoy Club Volta."
"Wha-, why? What is this? I thought things were supposed to go according to the plan no matter what?!"
"It’s an even better plan. There’s a suitcase in the trunk. Take that with you and say to the bouncer that you are there to make a delivery for President Ryu. You should have no resistance all the way to his office."
"What’s in the suitcase?"
"Very expensive things."
"Old man, what is this?" Even Miho didn’t seem to like this new plan, which we hadn’t been told in advance.
"There’s a small switch on the side of the suitcase that will give you a pair of your favorite tools. Isn’t it better to flash them out in Ryu’s office and then fight your way through the Corridor of Death from the second floor to the fourth floor?"
"Gees, I suppose that makes my life easier. But no, I don’t like the idea of Sohee getting involved in this."
It was a rare moment that Miho objected to Shin’s command.
"If you are worried about her, then you better make sure everyone’s dead so they can’t hurt her."
"Was this... your plan all along?" This wasn’t a ’sudden’ change of plan. I had a strong feeling that this was what he intended right from the start.
"Irrelevant question."
"Old man, I really don’t like this." Miho pouted.
"Tiger. This is your mission and you will complete your mission as ordered." Shin’s voice was stone cold.
Miho looked out of the parked car’s window for a few seconds, shook her head, and faced Rat again.
"Am I still getting Raccoon support with the smoke?"
"We do not need Raccoon with this plan. Bring the suitcase to the Office first. Take care of Ryu and his cronies there. As soon as you confirm Ryu is dead, escape through the waste disposal tunnel. I will be waiting in the basement."
"I thought I was supposed to kill as many of their men as possible by going through the Corridor of Death."
"No need. Something else has been arranged to clear out their men. Your task is to finish President Ryu quickly and escape."
Miho closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them again, turned to me in the back seat, and spoke.
"Tsk, all that training for nothing. Sohee, are you OK with this?"
"Do I have a choice?"
"Trust me. This will be a safer option for everyone involved." Shin insisted.
"I will take care of you. I’m not going to let anybody harm you." Miho assured me.
"That’s the spirit. Take care of Ms. Han, and take care of yourself. This could be our last job if all goes well." Rat grinned.
This was madness. And I didn’t like it one bit that we had been tricked by Shin all along.
Did he do this because he knew I wouldn’t agree to do it if he asked me in advance?
Now with such a short time left until the operation starts, there really wasn’t any way I could reject this arrangement. And to be very honest, this really did make the job safer for Miho as she could bypass the whole Corridor of Death thing, which always felt suicidal.
So maybe, just maybe - Shin cared for Miho’s survival after all.
"I will do it." I finally confirmed.
"Thank you for your cooperation, Ms. Han. Now, get out of the car, pick up the suitcase from the trunk, and head to Club Volta."
"Let’s do it." Miho gave Shin a little fist bump on his shoulder and got out first, so I grudgingly followed. Shin got out of the car to come around to the back of the car as well.
There indeed was a black suitcase in the car’s trunk. It was just about the size that could fit into a flight cabin.
"So how does this work?" Miho asked.
"You see this button here." Shin pointed at a barely visible button at the top of the suitcase.
"I see."
"It’s a time-delayed mechanism. Ms. Han will be asked to hand over the goods directly to the boss. Before you - that means YOU, Ms. Han - hand it over press the button and place it on his desk. Obviously, to open the suitcase, Ryu will have the handle side to himself so the hinge side should be facing you. Move away from it as soon as you can. The knives should shoot out in about 10 seconds - hilts first, of course. Tiger will catch them and use them to do her thing."
"Well, that should be fun." Miho finally got her excitement back after hearing about the neat gimmick.
Perhaps this really was all for the best. If we could pass through the corridor unharmed under the pretense of ’delivering the goods’ the whole thing could be over in minutes and we could be on our getaway very quickly. Putting myself in the combat zone was a risk I was willing to take as it seemed this could increase Miho’s chance of survival.
