Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 256 - 256 Two Hundred Fifty-Four Cleaning Up the Mess
256: Chapter Two Hundred Fifty-Four: Cleaning Up the Mess 256: Chapter Two Hundred Fifty-Four: Cleaning Up the Mess With Bruce’s rescue speed of a few minutes per person, spending three hours saving one meant that at least a dozen others were bound to die.
Gao Yang sighed and said no more, as another casualty was brought in.
The man had been shot in the leg, bleeding profusely; Bruce quickly assessed the wound, and then his left-hand syringe was immediately inserted.
After signaling for someone to hold the casualty down, amidst the anguished screams, Bruce made a quick cut.
Being pushed out by Bruce, and also because Gao Yang could hardly bear to watch anymore, he immediately left the medical room.
However, Gao Yang planned to do something for Bruce before he left.
There were plenty of soldiers from the Instruction Platoon maintaining order at the aid station.
As Gao Yang stepped out of the medical room, he grabbed a soldier from the Instruction Platoon and said loudly, “Make everyone who brings in a casualty disarm.
Also, have your people check first—don’t let them bring in anyone too severely injured.
Group the lightly wounded together, and separate those seriously injured but still responsive so we can save them first, then treat the lightly wounded.
And dig a trench inside the medical room for the blood to flow out; you can’t even step in there now.”
As Gao Yang spoke, the soldier from the Instruction Platoon nodded with each instruction, waiting for Gao Yang to wave his hand before dashing off.
After summoning two others, they began running around, counting the casualties, and arranged them in different areas according to the severity of their injuries.
Those with critical injuries had actually been given up on, while those with minor injuries, who wouldn’t die immediately, were arranged to be treated last; the priority was to save those with serious injuries who had a chance of surviving.
Gao Yang stood at the entrance, personally ensuring that everyone entering the medical room was unarmed.
He didn’t want Bruce to be killed by a relative or friend of a casualty who had been pronounced dead, nor did he want Bruce to be forced at gunpoint to treat someone.
After waiting a while, and seeing that the situation outside the medical room began to operate normally, with casualties being sent in only after being selected by the Instruction Platoon and everything becoming orderly, Gao Yang finally left the aid station.
Gao Yang now had to coordinate everything centrally; he had to manage everything.
Since Maide and Abu were both severely wounded, the Skull Gang had actually fallen into complete chaos.
If it weren’t for Gao Yang and his people, who knows how chaotic it would become?
So, Gao Yang was now effectively the real controller of the Skull Gang.
As an outsider, Gao Yang wanted nothing to do with the operation to rescue the Somali people, nor did he wish to be too involved with the Skull Gang.
He was just a training instructor, and even if it meant standing by, it was only natural.
But after spending so much time with the soldiers he personally trained, it was hard for anyone to really stand by and watch.
Gao Yang felt like he was fated to toil away.
After much thought, he still feared there was too much unattended business on the beach, and not being able to trust anyone to take command, he casually made his way back to the beach.
There were too few flashlights, and without the moon that night, and after the last of the flares had been used, they could only rely on a dozen or so flashlights for illumination.
The beach was pitch black, and nobody noticed Gao Yang’s arrival in the bustling crowd.
Due to the darkness, the busy people on the beach began to become a bit unruly, shouting for those with flashlights to help them whenever they spotted something new.
Looking at the chaotic beach, Gao Yang let out a helpless sigh and then said over the radio, “Big Dog, do you have any more flares?
If so, send two over to the beach; it’s too dark here, there’s not enough light, and we can’t see anything.”
“Big Dog here, there are flares left, but less than twenty.
We bought too few flares, and we’ve been firing them too liberally just now.
We absolutely can’t waste them now in case there’s another enemy attack.”
Gao Yang chuckled bitterly.
When they were purchasing mortar shells, they had only intended to complete the variety of ammunition, which is why they had bought some flares.
But it turned out the first use of the mortar was to fire flares, which were essential for night fighting.
They dared not waste any more.
“Understood, forget the flares.
How many spare flashlights or headlamps can you scrape together without affecting your operations?”
“A lot of us are equipped with headlamps.
Hmm, I can send you twenty men with headlamps, no more than that; any more would affect combat readiness.”
“Got it, just send them to the beach.
They can come back if there’s trouble, that’s all.”
The beach was too long, and even the addition of twenty headlamps barely improved the lighting, but it was better than nothing.
After ending the call with Glolov, Gao Yang shouted, “Any soldiers from the Instruction Platoon here?
If so, come to me.
Are there any soldiers from the Instruction Platoon?”
Gao Yang shouted several times, but no one came.
It was unavoidable; the trained soldiers of the Instruction Platoon were a crucial support, responsible for maintaining order and executing specialized tasks.
Most of the Instruction Platoon’s soldiers had already followed Li Jinfang to counter the enemies coming from the east.
Gao Yang wanted to quickly put an end to the current disarray.
The untrained soldiers, despite their low combat effectiveness, made up the majority and were therefore the main fighting force.
If the chaos persisted, it would be a disaster if the enemy attacked again.
Since the people maintaining order for Bruce could not be spared, Gao Yang had no choice but to pull people from Li Jinfang.’
“Toad, this is Ram, can you dispatch some people from Instruction Platoon over here?
I can’t manage anymore, the language barrier is too big, and there are too many people.
I need the Instruction Platoon to take on the role of officers to end the chaos as soon as possible,”
“Received, Toad.
I’ll leave behind those in charge of scouting and establishing observation posts, the rest I’ll send to you,”
Li Jinfang and Glolov acted quickly, soon those equipped with headlamps from the artillery and the people sent back by Li Jinfang all arrived at the beach, where Gao Yang beckoned them over to his side.
Li Jinfang sent exactly thirty soldiers from the Instruction Platoon.
Dispersing these men was enough to settle the current situation.
“Disperse the men from Instruction Platoon, each person is responsible for gathering a group, you’re to act as officers temporarily.
Make people act on your orders.
If anyone refuses to follow the orders, shoot them on the spot.
We must quickly get the current chaotic situation under control.
If there’s a combat mission, I will issue orders directly to you, and then you’ll lead the people you’re responsible for to carry them out.
Do you understand?”
“Understood, Instructor!”
“Good, you people are responsible for taking your subordinates to treat our wounded.
Gather our personnel’s bodies together and count the number of casualties.
You guys, take some people to collect the enemy’s bodies, and make sure no one takes anything from the bodies.
I’ve given this order several times already, but it still has not been completely carried out.
Now it’s up to you guys, go.”
After the thirty soldiers from Instruction Platoon went their separate ways to carry out their orders, Gao Yang said to the remaining artillerymen with the headlamps, “Go wherever you see the need for lighting and help out.
Stay alert.
If you hear gunfire or if I shout for you, hurry back to your positions.
Now go.”
Having issued the orders again, Gao Yang, exhausted, sat down on the sand with his rifle propped up.
Not only was his body tired, but his heart was even more so.
Commanding a ragtag bunch, especially one with a language barrier, was no less challenging than fighting a battle.
With more people from Instruction Platoon available, efficiency finally started to show.
After the thirty soldiers dispersed, each quickly gathered a group and announced themselves as their commanders.
Being the cream of the crop from Skull Gang and having proven themselves that night, they were quite respected, and virtually no one refused to follow their orders.
The chaotic villages and beaches finally began to quiet down, and with someone to follow, people eventually started to effectively execute Gao Yang’s orders.
Gao Yang waited in place, watching as groups dispersed into the village and across various parts of the beach.
Some went into the water to retrieve bodies, and bodies were gradually gathered together.
About an hour later, the person in charge of collecting enemy bodies finally ran back to Gao Yang.
“Report, Instructor!
We’ve found sixty-three enemy bodies so far, and ten more have been retrieved from the sea, including four incomplete corpses.
Judging from their clothing, they should be the enemy.
There’s also another enemy with severe injuries, but he will soon die.”
Gao Yang nodded and said, “Take me to see them.”
Sixty-four bodies were laid out in a long row on the beach.
Of course, one was still alive, but he would die soon, so counting them as sixty-four wasn’t wrong.
Standing before the row of bodies, Gao Yang felt very strange inside.
The equipment carried by these now lifeless attackers had been gathered together, impossible to distinguish from which body it came.
However, the clothing and bulletproof vests on the bodies were intact, and some differences could still be discerned.
Though the clothing was all black, there were differences in the models of bulletproof vests, clearly belonging to three distinct Mercenary Groups.
Among them, six bodies did not have faces smeared with camouflage like the others but instead wore black masks which, up to that point, had not been removed.
The four mutilated bodies were clearly Cui Bo’s work, destroyed by the impact of a high-caliber sniper rifle; not even a whole corpse was left.
As for those six bodies whose bulletproof vests differed from the rest, the manner of death made it clear they were Gao Yang’s doing, most likely by the six-man team led by an SBS sniper.
