Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 193 - 193 One Hundred Ninety-One P1445
193: Chapter One Hundred Ninety-One P14.45 193: Chapter One Hundred Ninety-One P14.45 Arilan Morrison Studio had its own shooting range, and if they were shooting handguns, there was an indoor range to choose from.
Jack brought out dozens of handguns, but sticking to the principle that the ammunition must be readily available, the caliber was limited to either 9mm or .45 ACP; all other various calibers were dismissed.
After letting Gao Yang and the others choose their favorite handguns, Jack began observing their shooting.
The first handgun Gao Yang chose was a .45 ACP caliber M1911.
After firing two magazines, Jack stopped Gao, picked out a 9mm caliber M1911 from a pile of guns, and waited until Gao had finished shooting another two magazines before signaling him to stop.
After Gao Yang separated the handgun from the magazine and pulled back the slide to show that the chamber was clear, he placed the handgun on the table next to him.
Then Jack took off his earmuffs and said loudly to Gao, “You can completely control the recoil of the .45 ACP handgun, and your rate of fire is very fast, almost no different from shooting Parabellum rounds.
I think you can choose a .45 caliber handgun.
Other than the M1911, which .45 caliber handguns have you used?
How does it feel?
Which one feels better in hand?”
Gao Yang shook his head and said, “I’ve only used the .45 caliber 1911.
I haven’t used others, but I’ve used many other 9mm handguns.
However, I always feel that the 1911 is the most comfortable.”
Jack shrugged and said, “Please, either stick with metric or imperial consistently for me, will you?
I have to convert between two different systems in my head, especially don’t switch from metric to imperial suddenly.
It’s really troublesome for someone who’s only comfortable with imperial.”
Gao Yang smiled and said, “Okay, I’ll pay attention to that.”
Jack nodded and said, “Your situation does indeed suit a large caliber handgun, and your marksmanship is very accurate, so for you, stopping power is more important than a large magazine capacity.
You can continue to use the M1911, but I still suggest considering a different type of handgun.
The magazine capacity of the 1911 is indeed too small.
You don’t need to worry about concealment, so you might want to try a high-capacity handgun model.”
After saying that, Jack placed three handguns in front of Gao Yang: an HK45, a Glock 21, and a modified variant of the 1911 which had a noticeably thicker grip, at least a third thicker than the original 1911.
After placing the three guns on the table beside Gao Yang, Jack said loudly, “The HK45 has a magazine capacity of ten rounds, the Glock 21 thirteen rounds, and the P14.45 fourteen rounds.
Try shooting a few magazines with each model to see which suits you best.”
After finishing with Gao Yang, Jack moved over to the others and, after watching them fire a few magazines, would have them switch to another gun to continue shooting.
Gao Yang fired a magazine with each of the three handguns.
All three models were .45 calibers, and with the larger caliber came larger bullets, so naturally, the magazine capacities weren’t as high as those of 9mm combat handguns.
Even the HK45 with the lowest capacity among the three models was much better than the seven-round 1911 in combat conditions.
Sometimes, just one or two seconds can decide a person’s life or death, and three extra bullets might mean the difference between life and death.
A larger bullet count meant the handgun’s grip had to be thicker, which was unavoidable.
Gao’s concern lay exactly here; he was afraid he couldn’t adapt to the much thicker grip handles, especially at the beginning of shooting when the unfamiliar feeling was quite pronounced.
Luckily, Gao’s hands were large, and after firing only a few magazines, he felt he could adapt well to the substantially thickened grip, and even felt that with a thicker grip, control seemed easier.
After firing with all three handguns, Gao Yang couldn’t decide which one was the best.
The HK45 felt just the right size, and the Glock 21 had the best shooting experience.
As for the P14.45, it had the highest capacity, but the grip was a bit too thick, and the shooting experience was closer to Gao’s habit, as he had used the 1911 for a long time and felt that the modified 1911’s shooting experience was more familiar.
After watching Gao Yang fire each of the three handguns, Jack came back to his side and asked, “How about it?
Which one do you like best?”
Gao Yang said with a wry smile, “All three have their merits.
I really don’t know which is better.
Overall, I like the grip of the HK45 the best, and the continuous firing feel of the Glock 21 is really great.
But I really don’t like the look of the Glock 21.
As for the P14.45, the grip is a little too thick, and not as comfortable as the HK45.
Yet, I am most familiar with the recoil and sights of this one, and can readjust my position to fire again more quickly.
So, I don’t know which one to choose.”
Jack nodded and said, “The HK45 is a good gun, but it’s a bit finicky about ammo.
However, the HK45’s designed life reaches 20,000 rounds, and maintenance is very convenient, with the recoil spring lasting 10,000 rounds.
That’s really impressive.
As for the Glock 21, it’s a great gun, and it’s also my sidearm, but if you don’t like its look, that can’t be helped.
So, the Para-Ordnance P14.45 is your best choice.
I just need to thin the grip to fit your hand, and I can also make its shooting life and part lifespan longer than the HK45’s, so you won’t need to change your gun for life, only some wearable parts from time to time.
You see, it’s that simple.”
Listening, Gao Yang was thrilled, nodding with every sentence Jack spoke, for Jack’s solution was exactly to his liking, and better than he could have imagined.
Jack suddenly laughed out loud and said, “There’s another advantage for you using this gun.
Just think about it, your enemy sees you with a 1911 and then he waits for you to fire off your seven rounds.
If he’s cautious enough, maybe he’ll wait for you to fire the eighth round.
But when he thinks you must reload and jumps out, you can continue shooting another seven rounds.
Don’t you think that’s interesting?”
Pulling out a 1911A1, when everyone thinks it can only shoot seven rounds, but then firing fourteen rounds—that thought alone is entertaining.
It could indeed play an unexpected role in combat.
Gao Yang couldn’t help but laugh and said, “If that’s the case, you have to make the gun look exactly like the original 1911A1.”
Jack also laughed and said, “Of course, that’s necessary.
Let me think, okay, from the trademark to the appearance, everything should be made to look like the Colt Government Model.
That version of the M1911A1 is the most common.
Although it’s impossible to be identical, as long as someone can’t tell the difference at first glance, it’s fun.
It could definitely fool a lot of people.”
Gao Yang smiled and said, “I’ll leave it to you, you’re the expert.
I believe your tricks will be useful to me.
If someday they really do save my life, I will definitely have to come back and thank you.”
Jack laughed and said, “Alright, it’s settled then.
If this trick saves your life, make sure to tell me.
I’ll be really happy to hear about it.”
Having decided to switch to the P14.45, Gao Yang picked it up again, wanting to feel the gun in his hand once more, while Jack went back to watch the others shoot.
But when Gao picked up the gun again and gave it a close look, he suddenly felt that although it was his first time handling this particular gun, it appeared very familiar to him.
Gao Yang was puzzled.
After looking it over for a while, he suddenly remembered something.
Right at that moment, Cui Bo stopped shooting, spoke a few words with Jack, and waited for Jack to go see the other shooters.
Gao Yang immediately said, “Rabbit, Jack, come here for a second.”
When Cui Bo walked over to Gao Yang, Gao immediately raised the gun in his hand and said, “Rabbit, do you remember the weapon magazine we saw?
It was quite a while back, I think it was the 2003 issue.
The cover had a modified 1911, it was an FBI special gun, called P14.15.
The key point was the magazine capacity—twenty-four rounds.
Remember?”
Cui Bo answered without hesitation, “Of course, I remember.
Didn’t we discuss it for a long time?
That gun on the cover didn’t look like it could hold twenty-four rounds at all.
What about it?
What made you think of this?”
Gao Yang sighed and said to Jack, “Is there such a modified version of the 1911, .45 ACP, with a magazine capacity of twenty-four rounds, specially used by the FBI, called the P14.15?
Right, also produced by the Canadian Para-Ordnance.”
Jack laughed and said, “Buddy, are you dumb?
Apart from the model and the magazine capacity, what you’re describing is the gun you’re holding right now.”
Gao Yang raised the gun in his hand to Cui Bo and exhaled, “That’s right.
It has troubled me for so many years.
It was only today that I finally understood.
I always felt something was off.
I thought the magazine cover got it wrong.
Yet, I felt such a professional magazine couldn’t make such an error, so I was never certain.
Now, I can finally confirm my suspicion was correct.
That magazine misled me.”
Jack shrugged and said, “Everyone makes mistakes.
Such a fundamental error, you two should’ve been able to discern, right?
Even if the mistake came from an authority, you should still have confidence in common knowledge.
Alright, I need to get back to what I was doing.”
After Jack walked away, Cui Bo excitedly said, “Brother Yang, have you decided on what gun to use?
I’ve made my choice—it’s the P226.
Jack also said the P226 suits me best.
What a pity, I was thinking of switching to a .45 ACP caliber in the future, but unfortunately, I can’t handle it.
Still, the thought of having my own custom gun excites me.”
Gao Yang and Cui Bo had both decided on their guns.
They didn’t need to continue testing and were just waiting for everything to end so Jack could customize the grips to fit their hands.
As the two chatted, the other members of the team were finishing up and deciding on their future weapons.
Li Jinfang’s hands were not small, and he could also handle the recoil of a large caliber.
With Jack’s help, Li Jinfang decided he would use the .45 ACP caliber Glock 21.
Frey chose the 9mm Glock 17.
As for Glolov, even though he always claimed he didn’t need a secondary weapon, he wouldn’t refuse a good gun for himself.
In the end, Glolov chose the 9mm Glock 18.
Accustomed to machine guns, Glolov picked a pistol model capable of fully automatic fire, suiting his habits and style perfectly.
