Chapter 121 - 121 One Hundred Twenty Earn Some Extra Money
121: Chapter One Hundred Twenty: Earn Some Extra Money 121: Chapter One Hundred Twenty: Earn Some Extra Money Li Jinfang definitely wasn’t trying to mock Harris; he just wanted to state the facts.
However, Li Jinfang’s words incited the people from the Black Fire Mercenary Corps.
Watching their leader still lying on the ground, they one by one tossed aside whatever was in their hands and charged forward, ready to start a fight with great ferocity.
Even though it was agreed to be a friendly match, it wouldn’t be the first time such a match turned into a death battle.
Seeing their opponents gearing up for a brawl, Gao Yang and his friends also threw aside their belongings and stepped forward to meet them.
Whether or not Li Jinfang could handle the situation himself was one matter; showing support for one’s own people was another.
Harris, lying askew on the ground, struggled to speak, “Stop it, damn it, aren’t you embarrassed enough?
This is just a fair competition.
Haven’t I told you guys?”
After stopping his men, Harris grinned with pain and said, “Alright, I’m fine, just let me rest for a bit.
That punch was damn powerful.
Seriously, isn’t anyone going to give me a hand up?”
Two members of the Black Fire Mercenary Corps ran over, trying to help Harris up, but after one attempt with their help, Harris simply sat down on the ground and waved his hand, saying, “Forget it, let me sit for a while.
Hey, Frog, interested in going for a big game?
We could have a betting match, and you could make a lot of money.”
Li Jinfang frowned and said, “Fight who?
Don’t tell me it’s still with you.”
At that moment, one of the African members beside Harris said with a look of sudden realization, “Boss, I got it.
This guy is indeed formidable, no wonder you wanted to test him.
So, you were planning to set up Gambler, weren’t you?”
Harris weakly slapped the speaking African and huffed, “Idiot, I should be the one saying that.
You idiot, I’ve told you many times not to make things so clear, you exposed it, get it!”
After he spoke, Harris, with a strange look, rubbed his belly and turned to Li Jinfang, “Have you heard of Gambler?”
Li Jinfang shook his head clearly.
Harris then turned hopefully to Gao Yang and Glolov, hoping they had heard of Gambler.
Like Li Jinfang, Gao Yang obviously had no idea, but after a moment of contemplation, Glolov hesitantly said, “Are you talking about that guy from the Big Winner Mercenary Group?”
“That’s him, that’s him,” Harris confirmed.
“Well, this guy is also here, at another site, arrived almost the same time as us.
Everyone knows he loves to gamble, so the day before yesterday, he gathered all the mercenaries here and hosted a free combat competition.
Let’s just say I personally joined in and lost a lot of money.”
After an awkward confession, Harris suddenly became enthusiastic, “Guys, after hearing today that the Satan Mercenaries’ Frog is here, I was thinking, maybe I could win back the money I lost.
Now I can be sure, just get Gambler to hold another match, and we could get rich.
This place is full of mercenaries, who would refuse to bet on a match?”
Upon hearing this, Li Jinfang immediately became spirited and said loudly, “Such a good opportunity?
This could be our chance, but we need our leader’s approval.”
Li Jinfang looked at Gao Yang expectantly.
Gao Yang didn’t immediately consent, instead, he asked Harris, “You joined the fight yourself, tell us about your opponent.”
“Here’s the thing: Gambler is just the bookie.
He invites people to bet, and anyone can fight.
People bet freely.
I won a fight, but then I came up against a master, a tough cookie from a no-name mercenary group, nicknamed Killing Fiend, a Caucasian, no idea where he’s from.
He broke the arms of two guys, and I almost had my arm broken too.
Though I conceded in time when I saw how things were going, that damn Killing Fiend still tried to cripple me.
Now his odds are so high, but no one is willing to bet anymore, so the betting competition can’t be held these last two days.”
Gao Yang was confident in Li Jinfang’s abilities, but there’s always someone better out there, and he didn’t want Li Jinfang to end up disabled or dead over a bet.
Yet, backing down wouldn’t sit well with either Li Jinfang or Gao Yang himself.
Gao Yang, frowning, said, “Sounds pretty formidable.
Jinfang, you’re more professional.
Why don’t you ask and then decide if you want to take a fight?”
Li Jinfang, excited, said, “No question about it—I’m on it, buddies!
Let me make you some extra cash.
Harris, tell me what this guy practices and his fighting habits.”
“He’s trained in Karate, Boxing, Taekwondo, Huaxia Kung Fu, and Capoeira from South America.
He learns everything.
I did some digging; the guy’s a freak.
He joined a national free combat competition in some country, but quit soon after, just so he could enjoy the thrill of torture.
That guy became a mercenary.
Also, he likes to break people’s limbs and then twist their necks.
Although I’m eager for you to beat that damn guy, I still have to tell you what I know.
Listen, the better you are, the more excited he gets.
The people he looks down on might be spared, but if you’re too good and get him excited, it could very well become a fight to the death.”
Gao Yang gasped, “This guy’s not just a bloodthirsty maniac but also a learned martial artist.
Toad, can you handle this?”
Li Jinfang also furrowed his brows and said, “It’s hard to say before fighting, especially since the other guy is a master.
I must go all out, but if I do that, I won’t be able to hold back, and it might lead to someone’s death.
It wouldn’t be good if a life was lost over a contest.”
Harris shrugged his shoulders and said, “Look, all of us mercenaries are scum, but we all have our bottom lines, right?
Even if we are scum, we’re definitely not psychotic scum, but that guy, he’s a psycho who deserves to go to hell.
I heard that he fought a battle in the Central African Republic, and when they were short on food, he killed and ate a young girl every day.
Can you imagine that?”
Gao Yang’s complexion immediately changed, and he asked with a frown, “Is that true or false?”
“Of course it’s true.
That guy used to be in some big mercenary group in Nigeria; even his teammates couldn’t stand him and kicked him out.
Then he became a free mercenary for a long time until he ran into a bunch of psychos and formed that unknown small mercenary group.
Although there are only four people in their group, they are all damned scum.
They came here early but no one wanted to mix with psychos, so they were ordered to stay and didn’t leave.
I heard all this from Gambler, and I believe Gambler wouldn’t lie.”
After Harris finished speaking, Gao Yang immediately turned to Li Jinfang and said, “This is a real piece of scum, killing him would be serving justice.
So, are you scared or not?
If you’re not scared, then kill that psycho.”
Li Jinfang glared at Gao Yang and said, “Scared?
Me?
I’ll have you know, even if I wasn’t confident, I’d still have to find a way to kill that guy, or I’d be sorry for the skills I’ve learned and despise myself for the rest of my life.”
Gao Yang immediately said, “Good, do it.”
Cui Bo slapped his pistol hanging from his waist and shouted loudly, “No worries, Toad, the moment I see you can’t hold out, I’ll shoot that bastard dead right away.”
Harris said awkwardly, “That won’t work.
If Gambler dared to start betting, then he isn’t afraid of anyone breaking the rules.
If you shoot, those machine guns that are trained on us will fire first.
Otherwise, who would dare to bet?”
Actually, Gao Yang had the same thought as Cui Bo.
If it really looked like Li Jinfang was in trouble, they would lose face and accept it, but they definitely wouldn’t stand by and watch him get killed.
However, after hearing Harris’s words, which dashed his hopes, Gao worried inwardly.
After all, it was just a bet, and having Li Jinfang risk his life over it didn’t seem worth it.
Seeing Gao Yang hesitate, Li Jinfang said anxiously, “Brother Yang, rest assured.
Even if I can’t beat that Killing Fiend, I’m confident I won’t get killed by him.
If the situation really goes south, I’ll withdraw in time.
I promise.
Is that okay?”
Gao Yang said with uncertainty, “Are you really confident?
Don’t bluff me.
Anyway, if you really get killed, we won’t care about any rules.
We’ll definitely shoot to avenge you, even if it means we go out together.
So don’t let us down, you hear?”
Li Jinfang hesitated slightly but then said firmly, “Don’t worry, Brother Yang, I am truly confident I won’t get killed.
I can’t possibly let you all down.
With a master’s first move, it’s clear whether there’s true skill or not.
The moment I see it’s not going well, I’ll just bite the bullet and admit defeat.”
In the end, Gao Yang nodded and said, “Alright, go fight then.
Oh, wait, I just remembered something—we’re out of money, so we can’t make a bet.”
Harris said immediately, “No problem, we still have a total of ninety thousand US dollars.
Let’s consider it a joint bet.
There are fourteen of us, and we’ll divide the winnings into twenty parts.
Frog is going to fight, so he’ll take six shares, and the rest of us will get one share each.
How does that sound?”
The terms offered by Harris were quite fair, so Gao Yang quickly said, “Alright, let’s do it.
But weren’t we told not to leave our positions?”
Harris immediately shouted towards a small hut, “Major, we’re about to have a contest.
Are you interested in betting on it?”
The major immediately came out of the hut, looking serious, and said, “Now?”
Harris nodded and said, “Yes, right now.
It’s not here, but the kind where all the mercenaries gather.
We need you to coordinate this.”
The major nodded gravely and said, “Is it the same kind of free fighting as last time?
If so, let me go and speak to the commanders at the other positions first.
I’ll be back.”
