Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 110 - 110 109 Surprise
110: Chapter 109 “Surprise 110: Chapter 109 “Surprise Frey got along very well with Cui Bo and the others and respected his seniors greatly.
He was always eager to learn anything useful, and importantly, Frey was diligent and compliant, making Cui Bo and the others quite fond of the newcomer.
However, after a few days, they found to their headache that Frey was quite the chatterbox.
Frey also received a nickname, called Little Fly, but the nickname didn’t come from his talkativeness, but rather when Gao Yang introduced Frey to others, Li Jinfang’s first reaction to hearing the name Frey was to wonder why someone would be called Fly.
The English spelling of Frey is FLY, which can mean both flying and fly the insect.
Li Jinfang, who was learning English, first thought of the insect, and after Li Jinfang shared his finding, although Frey hastily explained that his name meant flying and not fly the insect, no one listened to his defense.
So, Frey’s nickname settled into place from the moment he met Li Jinfang.
Just as Gao Yang’s nickname had to be Little Lamb instead of lamb, calling Frey Little Fly didn’t carry much significance.
So, after some discussion, Frey’s nickname was decided to be Little Fly (littlefly).
Gao Yang and the others helped Frey rent a small house in the same community, where Frey’s mother and girlfriend could move in.
Since Frey had settled down his mother and girlfriend, he focused solely on training every day, trained by Li Jinfang, designated for the task of training new recruits, until he was driven to the brink of death and ecstasy.
Every day Glolov and Li Jinfang took Frey to the outskirts and found a deserted place to give Frey a variety of assault training.
The first thing they had to teach Frey was the most basic infantry movements and shooting.
With not enough time to spare, Frey was exhausted by the voluminous amount of training every day.
As Frey was to be Glolov’s assistant shooter, Glolov planned to switch to a machine gun that could change barrels and use a belt for feeding ammunition, which would improve the sustainability of the firepower.
However, since they still didn’t know what kind of mission they would get, they could only decide what machine gun to switch to after arriving in Libya.
Nevertheless, this didn’t affect Frey’s own gear, so Gao Yang called Uriyangko to order a set of equipment for Frey.
If he were to be Glolov’s assistant shooter, Frey would need to carry a lot of bullets for Glolov, which meant Frey’s load was substantial.
Thus, it was best that Frey’s weapon be as light as possible.
Cui Bo generously lent his captured MP5 to Frey, letting him use it to familiarize himself, with the plan to buy Frey an MP5 after arriving in Libya.
Li Jinfang gave Frey an M92 pistol.
In the next few days, Frey could get acquainted with the use of these two weapons.
However, when the day came for Catherine’s arrival, Frey interrupted his training, as he had to accompany Gao Yang to the airport to receive her.
As the only one with legal status in South Africa and a native of Johannesburg, Frey was the most suitable person to act as a guide and handle some miscellaneous tasks.
Gao Yang had once eagerly looked forward to Catherine’s arrival, but now, he feared meeting her.
The reason was simple: although he hadn’t formalized his relationship with Yelena, he couldn’t quite imagine what it would be like to cast Yelena aside after their ambiguous time together these past days.
Gao Yang couldn’t possibly abandon Yelena, but thinking about Catherine coming to South Africa upon invitation and then having to tell her he already had a girlfriend and asking her to go back where she came from was something Gao Yang couldn’t bring himself to do.
Moreover, considering handing Catherine over to someone edgy, Gao Yang was even less inclined to push back on Catherine’s visit.
The real reason Gao Yang was most troubled was that Yelena also planned to come with him to pick up Catherine.
This was the most crucial and problematic part.
Even though Yelena repeatedly assured him she wouldn’t make things difficult for Gao Yang and was just going to see what Catherine looked like, putting two potential romantic rivals together could lead to unpredictable issues.
The time they had to leave for the airport was fast approaching.
Gao Yang looked at his watch.
Frey had said he would head over after gathering some things at home, but he was still keeping Gao Yang waiting.
On the other hand, Yelena was already dressed to the nines, smiling and sitting in Gao Yang’s room, waiting with him.
Just as Gao Yang was getting anxious, he finally heard the doorbell.
Steeling himself, he said to Yelena, “Frey’s here, let’s get going.
Hey, why are you wearing high heels?
Ah, that’s not going to work—I forgot to tell you, we’re going to Wanderbloom Natural Reserve.
Well, no time now, maybe I should just go by myself.”
Yelena still had a smile on her face as she took out a backpack that she had been carrying behind her.
Without a word, she opened it and put the pack right in front of Gao Yang.
In Yelena’s bag, there were a pair of hiking shoes and a set of outdoor clothes, as well as intimate underwear.
After seeing the contents, Gao Yang blushed and averted his gaze, saying, “You came prepared, that’s good, let’s head out.”
The little trick didn’t have a chance to work, leaving Gao Yang filled with a sense of defeat.
He could only walk out crestfallen.
When he reached the living room, he saw that Frey was already waiting there for him.
Seeing Frey’s appearance, Gao Yang immediately widened his eyes and exclaimed, “My God, isn’t this a bit too much?”
Cui Bo said in a grave voice, “It’s necessary!
You represent the face of our Satan Mercenary Corps.”
Li Jinfang, with a serious face, said, “Of course, Brother Yang, we can’t lose our momentum.
Even if you can’t do Yelena wrong, you can’t lose face in front of that edgy character.
We need this presence.
If it wasn’t for you stopping us, we would have all planned to go.”
Frey said earnestly, “Sir, it’s just like in the movies.
From now on, I’m your driver and bodyguard.
Don’t worry, although I don’t have a driver’s license, I’ve always had a car to drive.”
The reason Gao Yang was surprised was that Frey was dressed in a black suit with shiny black leather shoes, a white shirt with collar and cuffs bright white, topped with a black tie, wearing a pair of black sunglasses, and even an earpiece.
Standing straight with a poker face, he looked exactly like a gang boss’s henchman from the movies.
In real life, a gang boss would have to be sick of living to have such a flashy bodyguard.
Gao Yang said with a bitter smile, “Why do I feel like this doesn’t give off an imposing vibe but instead feels really silly?”
Glolov had a habit of disappearing, and there was no one to speak up for Gao Yang, Cui Bo just urged urgently, “Hurry up and go.
If you don’t leave now, it’ll be too late.
Control the extent, you can’t look too weak, but you also can’t really hit it off with Catherine.
You have to gauge it yourself.”
Indeed, time was short.
After Frey, looking very professional, opened the room door for Gao Yang, Gao Yang could only walk out with a bitter smile.
Seeing the car parked by the road, Gao Yang’s eyes widened and he exclaimed, “No way?
This is too extravagant.
Please, this is really silly, okay?”
Frey hurried forward a few steps, pulled open the door of a twelve-meter Lincoln, then, with one hand poised against the door, said expressionlessly, “Don’t Americans all like this type of car?
Rabbit Bro and Brother Jinfang and I spent two days renting this.
Sir, please.”
Gao Yang boarded the car with Catherine, smiling bitterly.
After Frey gently closed the car door, he quickly got into the driver’s seat and drove off at high speed towards the airport.
It was the first time Gao Yang had ridden in such a luxurious car.
Inside, there were four large soft leather seats, not just one bar but two, and luxury sound systems and televisions, needless to say.
Sitting in the car, Gao Yang indeed felt quite comfortable, but for some reason, he was reminded of the stretched cars parked outside some large hotels in his home country.
It seemed that these days, stretched cars had become a symbol of tackiness, so they were seldom seen outside big hotels anymore.
Unexpectedly, he had the chance to experience it personally.
If he had to pick someone up in a fancy car, Gao Yang would have preferred a Rolls-Royce or a Bentley, not sitting in a stretched Lincoln.
He didn’t know what old movies Cui Bo and the others had watched to think that a stretched Lincoln was still cool rather than tacky these days.
Thankfully, there wasn’t any hotel or wedding company advertisement on the car exterior, which made Gao Yang feel slightly better.
Looking at the various foreign liquors on the bar, Gao Yang sighed and asked Frey, “How much did you guys spend renting this car?”
Without getting a response from Frey, Gao Yang was puzzled until Yelena smiled and pointed towards a button on the armrest of his seat labeled with a microphone.
Gao Yang pressed the button with a wry smile and repeated his question.
“Sir, the rental for this car is ten thousand US dollars for three days.
This is a gift from the three of them to you.
My gear is my gift to you.
We all agreed that a luxury car plus a very stylish bodyguard would make you look even sharper,” replied Frey.
Gao Yang said with a bitter smile, “Alright then, I’ll thank you all for this ‘surprise’ gift.”
“Oh, I forgot to mention, sir, feel free to enjoy everything in the car.
The cigars and the liquor are all top-notch stuff.
To be precise, the three-day usage of the car came as a bonus with the purchase of these items inside.
I hope you and Ms.
Yelena have a good time.”
Looking at Gao Yang as he put the button back, Yelena laughed loudly and said, “Your brothers really treat you well, but it seems like you’re not quite satisfied.”
Gao Yang picked up a bottle of champagne and said with a bitter smile, “I just think that in this era no one would think it’s cool to ride in a stretched car.
Well, we have time for a drink before we reach the airport.”
After downing a glass of champagne, Yelena smiled and said, “I’m really happy to be drinking champagne with you in this car, at least I’m before that Catherine.
What makes me even happier is that you brought me along with you.”
Having drunk the champagne, sitting in a car that he thought was luxurious but tacky didn’t seem too bad after all.
Gao Yang didn’t smoke cigars, but he still lit a Cuban one.
After all, the car’s ventilation system was excellent, so it wouldn’t fill the interior with smoke.
Letting out a long puff of smoke, Gao Yang spread his arms on the seat, declared confidently, “Don’t worry, this is the first time, but definitely not the last.
And next time, we’ll be sitting in our own fancy car, and it’ll be one that both you and I like!”
