Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 33: Release it
Chapter 33: Release it
Sara sat at her desk, staring blankly at her computer screen while her thoughts wandered back to her earlier conversation with Alex. The unease his words had left her with lingered in her mind.
The only reason Mr. Goldman sought her out was that she was his heir. If he had had a child with his wife, Sara would have been of no importance to him. But since they had no children together, he was now searching for the child he had abandoned—her. This realization only reinforced her negative feelings toward him. She wanted nothing to do with him, and the idea of being connected to him made her want to pull away even more.
All Sara wanted was a simple life, free from turmoil. However, Mr. Goldman’s sudden reappearance was shattering her peace. Was it too much to ask for a quiet existence?
She exhaled heavily and rubbed her temples, trying to stave off frustration. She needed to regain her focus; constant distractions would derail her productivity and undermine her goals for the day.
"Should I tell them now?" Sara considered sharing her discovery. Two factions of the Goldman family were after her and her friends: her harmless father and his vengeful relatives. This information would help keep them alert.
Picking up her phone, she sent a message to a group chat where all four of them could see.
Sara: "Let’s meet this evening."
After sending the message, she looked at it again and decided to add more to convey its urgency.
"It’s important... Anne’s place would work."
Once she finished, she set her phone aside and returned to her work.

Meanwhile,
Alex reflected on their earlier discussion and wondered what had prompted her to ask about Trever Goldman. He knew contact between them was unavoidable but hadn’t expected it to happen so soon.
Not when he had ensured she was off the radar of both him and anyone close to her.
Everyone except Jordan Ambrose...
At that thought, he picked up his phone, wondering whether Trevor had approached Jordan or if it was purely coincidental that Jordan chose to inform Sara now. He didn’t believe in coincidences, so he made a call.
"Did a Goldman visit Jordan?" he asked as soon as the call connected. A scowl formed on his brow as he listened to the response.
"What do you mean you don’t know?" His voice turned cold, and frost settled in his eyes. How could anyone under him be so careless? Where was their professionalism and the meticulousness he expected?
The other party tried to apologize and explain, but he quickly cut them off.
"Save it. I don’t want to hear any excuses. Kai will relay your next orders." Alex ended the call after that.
Upon hearing that they didn’t know whether there had been contact between the Goldmans and Jordan, Alex was certain they must have reached him already. He knew about Sara’s visit back home but nothing else. Mr. Ambrose must have taken that opportunity to inform her. She wouldn’t have come home asking about a surname she didn’t even know or want to hear about before.
He called Kai immediately to have those people changed or fired. When the call connected, Kai’s teasing voice came through, further irritating Alex.
"And you won’t admit to missing me, tsk... tsk... tsk..." Kai’s words made Alex roll his eyes and pinch the bridge of his nose in an effort to contain his anger.
"Kai..." he started, but before he could say more, he was interrupted.
"Had a fight with Miss Ambrose or something?" Kai asked, and Alex felt like he could puncture him with his glare, smirking in response.
"SKYLAR," Alex snapped, having reached his limit with Kai’s rambling. His patience had run thin.
"Yes, Boss," Kai replied, realizing he should have listened first before rambling on about trivial matters, even though teasing Alex was amusing. "...Is there a problem, Sir?"
"Aaron messed up. I want him replaced," Alex said, and silence followed. Kai seemed to need a moment to process the information. "Did you hear me, Kai?"
"What... Yes. I’ll handle it immediately," Kai replied, and Alex hummed in acknowledgment before disconnecting the call and tossing his phone onto the desk.

On the other side of town, Jessa and Bernice were seated in a restaurant, a milkshake in front of them, but their attention was glued to the laptop screen, with Bernice typing rapidly.
"How does this look?" Bernice asked, turning the screen toward Jessa for a better view of what was displayed.
Jessa pulled the laptop closer, scanning the text and scrolling through the images. After a minute or two, a smile crept onto her face, and she nodded approvingly. "Looks great. It’ll be a surprise for him—and even Sara," she said, clearly satisfied with what she saw.
"Told you I’m perfect for the job," Bernice responded, feeling proud of her work.
"Remove some of the pictures. Let’s take it slow. This will be the first move—we don’t want to reveal everything at once," Jessa suggested after thinking for a moment. "Keep the information vague, too. We will play our cards slowly until he is overwhelmed."
"So, I have to rewrite everything? You’re really hard to please," Bernice grumbled, but she still started making the changes. She was also eager to see how things would unfold. The idea of releasing different pieces bit by bit thrilled her. Adam Crawford wouldn’t be able to handle it or deny anything once they were through with him.
"It’s your job, do it right," Jessa remarked, picking up her milkshake and taking a sip. She closed her eyes, savoring the sweet, creamy taste. "This is good, you should try it," she said, holding the cup toward Bernice, who only stared back at her.
"Once this is done, I expect more than just a milkshake, Jess. A full-course meal should do the trick," Bernice said, but Jessa acted as though she hadn’t heard her. "I’m done," Bernice announced with a grin.
"Then go ahead and release it," Jessa responded, not even bothering to check the final version.
"Shouldn’t you... You know what? Never mind. You’ll see it eventually," Bernice started to ask if Jessa wanted to review it but decided against it. She went ahead and posted the content on social media.
