Chapter 106. Can’t Wait

Chapter 106: 106. Can’t Wait

Meanwhile, Jocelyne and Ash were driving down the highway when they spotted the car tailing them. Ash’s grip on the steering wheel grew tight, and his gazed focused ahead while occasionally glancing through the rareview mirror, constantly checking the distance between them and the pursuing car.

"Can’t we go any faster?" Jocelyne asked. Her body was tensed and trembling from fear. She knew without a doubt that those chasing them right now were after them because of the accident that had unintentionally harmed Alex as well.

"Do you see the current speed?" Ash asked, speaking through clenched jaws. He felt both anger and a sense of responsibility towards the woman seated beside him. Maybe it was his fault for loving a woman like her even after knowing what she was like, and even now, he couldn’t find it in him bail on her. So here they were, running from some unknown people because of a decision she made because of her jealousy.

Jocelyne looked at the indicators. The speed was already at its limits. The cat was already going as fast as it could, everuthing around them bearing into the darkness, leaving onky color flashes of lights te be seen but the tailing car was relentless, just few metwer away and it seemed they would be catching up soon.

"I am sorry," Jocelyne suddenly said, taking Ash off guard. "Noneid this would have happened if I hadn’t..." she didn’t want to say it. Not to him, at least.

How was she supposed to tell him she was jealous of a woman who got the attention of the man she wanted for herself even while already having man by her side? She couldn’t say it, even though she knows he must have already pieced everything together by now.

"If we get out of this, you and will have a long talk, Jocelyne," Ash said without looking at her, his focus still on the road knowing tye slightest mistake would lead to a fatal accident given their current speed.

"I know," Jocelyne said, feeling remorseful now. She didn’t know what she was thinking when she did the things that she did because of a total stranger. A man whom she had only seen twice when she already and Manis was right there waiting for her to return his feelings. Even now, in the direction situation, he was still here when he could have easily escaped, saving his own life. "But I am still sorry, Ash," she reached out to touch his arm even though he didn’t look at her. He was mad and she understood his reason, he was right to be made at her. "I will try to make it your to you if we make it out."

Ash briefly glanced at her and smiled. "Is that a promise, J?" jocelyne hummed, and he nodded. "I’ll get us out of here," he raised his hand briefly and caressed her cheek before quickly returning it to the steering wheel. "I won’t let anyone hurt. Trust me," he promised.

Oblivious to what was happening outside the estate, Sara had her dinner with Alex and then returned to the room. She stared at her phone, her contacts displayed on the screen. She didn’t know who to call first or if she should just wait until they met at the gala.

She also didn’t think it was right to break the news of her engagement to Jordan over the phone. She needed to see him face to face and inform him. She sighed, setting the phone aside.

"Is something wrong?" Alex asked as he walked out of the bathroom. Dropped in a bathrobe. Water droplets fell from his Stull damp hair, and she smiled.

"Nothing is wrong," she said. Standing to her feet, she approached him. About an hour ago, she was still worried about his motives and his sincerity and then the sudden proposal that should have still stunned her till now but everything suddenly fell into place and now seemed very right and normal. As if it has always been meant to be this way. "I was just wondering how to tell Father about it. I wanted to break the news to him over the phone, but it doesn’t seem right."

Alex wrapped hisbhand around her waist and closed the gap between them. "A video call would do the trick, but you are right. We should fix a date to go see him," he agreed. "Although the date can still be fixed after a little chat over the phone."

Sara gave some thought to it and then nodded her head.

"Now that’s its decided," he led her to the bed and made her sit on her lap. Sara was as stiff as a board sitting on his lap for the first time, and knowing he was onky a bathrobe only made her stiffen even more. "Let’s talk about getting our certificates and the wedding."

"Certificates?" she looked ver her shoulder, her only to pull her head back, almost crashing with his face that was right over her shoulder.

"Yes, everything is ready, and all that’s needed is our signatures to make it official," Alex replied as if that was something obvious for her to know. "I told, I came prepared. So I have had everything prepared befire hand. If you wish for it, I could have brought them to us by morning, or we can go to the Marriage Bureau and get it done."

""It’s a Saturday tomorrow, Alex," Sara blurted out without even realizing it. It was onky after she had said that she realized hiw she was o my bothered about the day and the fact the staff would be off duty then.

"The day doesn’t stop us from getting married. Do you doubt my capabilities now, hmm?" His face drew closer ti hers and she Sara tried to stand up and but his hand around her waist didn’t allow. "No one will stop us from getting married, no matter the day or time. All this needed is a little phone call and it’ll all be set and ready. What do you say? Should we get them tomorrow?"

Sara stared into his eyes and saw how serious he was and couldn’t help but wonder why once again. Everything he had done and was doing was still surprising. She looked at him, her expression becoming serious. Then she asked, "Why the rush? We are engaged now, aren’t we?"

Although the word engagement didn’t seem much anymore and she feared that the longer the wedding was prolonged, she would lose him again, she couldn’t help but ask. He was even more eager than her to tie the knot.

"Because I can’t wait to wed you. I can’t wait to make you fully mine. To call you my wife. And also to make sure no one steals you away," Alex replied.
