MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA -
Chapter 71: Confusing The Enemies
Chapter 71: Confusing The Enemies
"I’ve received a report from my scout that the Black Moon Pack is constructing a wall around their whole territory." Moss growled, his expression darkening.
"How can that be possible?" Victor laughed mockingly, his tone dripping with disdain. "Do you think building a wall around all four borders is a joke? That requires manpower, resources, and at least six to twelve months of labor. Your scouts must be seeing things, Moss."
Victor’s smirk grew wider, causing the scars on the face to amplify his terrifying looks, but Moss’s expression only turned grimmer, his eyes flashing with a warning. "My scouts don’t make mistakes, Victor. And neither do I."
Victor sneered, "And your words are enough to convince us? I think not, Moss. We need proof, not empty claims."
Moss’s jaw clenched, his eyes flashing with a hint of anger. "What’s stopping you from going there yourself to take a look?" he growled, his tone laced with frustration.
Victor shuddered at the thought, his mind recoiling in horror. How could he go back there after what happened to him? The memories still lingered, etched into his mind like a scar.
That red wolf, with its piercing, menacing blue eyes and razor-sharp claws, had traumatized him so badly that he still saw it in his nightmares. The way it had toyed with him, letting him escape with his last breath, had left Victor with a deep-seated fear he didn’t want to acknowledge.
His face still had healing scars. Although they’d completely heal without leaving scars, it was taking too long and Victor couldn’t understand why.
He shifted in his seat, clearing his throat as he looked away with a weak huff. The sound was meant to convey nonchalance, but Moss wasn’t fooled. He’d seen the flicker of fear in Victor’s eyes, the faint tremble of his lip.
"Thought as much," Moss sneered. "It’s already a miracle my scouts managed to get close enough to gather this intel. The Black Moon Pack’s patrols are relentless – the moment they spot us, they hunt us down without mercy."
Moss’s gaze turned cold, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I lost ten good men to get this information. Only two survived to bring back the news. So, don’t question my scouts’ words. They paid in blood for this intelligence."
"That’s enough. Settle down, both of you," Gideon finally intervened, his deep voice calm and authoritative. Thoughtfully, he added, "They think a wall will stop you?"
However, the masked man shook his head, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes. "Luna Reana is smarter than that. She wouldn’t waste the pack’s resources and manpower amidst your attacks." He stayed silent as everyone’s gaze rested on him. "I think there’s something more to it."
The masked man had thought of different reasons for the wall’s construction. He had considered the idea that Luna Reana might be hiding something within the pack– Maybe she had stumbled upon a valuable resource, one that she wanted to keep for herself.
Or maybe, just maybe, she was preparing for something bigger, something that would change the balance of power in the Southern Mainland, especially with that red wolf in the picture.
But no matter what he thought, he couldn’t figure it out. He’d even gone so far as to discreetly ask his sources within the Black Moon Pack, but they’d all relayed the same message: the Luna claimed the wall was to protect against rogue attacks.
The masked man snorted inwardly at the obvious deception. He’d be a fool to swallow that lie whole.
Luna Reana was too cunning, too calculating, to waste resources on a wall that would only slow down a determined enemy, wasn’t like her. There was more to it, something she was hiding and he was determined to find out.
But how?
"How about we launch a full-scale war on them now that they’re distracted with building this wall?" Victor suggested, his voice laced with eagerness.
Moss’s eyes narrowed, his expression skeptical. "Are you insane? We can’t take on the Black Moon Pack in a full-scale war. Not yet, at least."
The masked man leaned back in his chair, his eyes glinting with interest. "Moss is right. Preparations are not done yet. Moreover, Luna Reana is out of the pack. Who knows where she’s gone and what she’s planning?"
He continued, "You can’t afford to act rashly, not when the stakes are this high. You need to wait, to gather more information, and to strike when the time is right." He paused, his gaze sweeping across the room. "Besides, I have a feeling that Luna Reana’s absence is more than just a coincidence."
"So, what are we supposed to do? We can’t get close to the pack," Moss asked with annoyance.
"We keep sending people," the masked man replied, his voice low and calculated. "If they’re lucky enough, one or two could infiltrate and join the workers, just to get a glimpse of what’s really going on behind that wall." He leaned forward, his eyes glinting with intensity. "And if we’re very lucky, we might just uncover the secret Luna Reana is hiding."
At that moment, his mind zapped with a mindlink and his lips stretched into a smile behind his mask. "A little birdie just told me that one of the Deltas has been put in the dungeon. If you can rescue him, half of your problems will be solved."
The rogue leaders stared at him speechlessly. They couldn’t even walk out of the woods before getting killed on the spot, and now they were being asked to infiltrate the Black Moon Pack’s dungeon?
What, did he think that the Black Moon Pack was so easy to infiltrate? Why didn’t he try it himself?
Only a madman could think so foolishly. If not that his brain was still useful, they would have long severed his head, for thinking he was the boss of them all - ordering them around and treating them like fools.
Meanwhile, the masked man’s mind was calculating how to get Delta Xavier out of the dungeon to join their course.
