MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA
Chapter 61: Favors Owed

Chapter 61: Favors Owed

The Black Moon Pack members were stunned, their faces reflecting their outrage and shock. Ryder might be a servant, but he was one that their Luna had chosen for the first time, to have fun with.

Even though he wasn’t, their Black Moon Pack wouldn’t sell their own for any reason, and the pack’s collective growl reflected their displeasure.

Ryder, on the other hand, had a look of amusement dancing in his eyes as he stared at his Luna, waiting to hear her response. His expression was a mask of calm, but a hint of curiosity flickered beneath the surface.

Reana, meanwhile, seemed carved from ice, her face a serene mask that betrayed none of her emotions. Her eyes, however, told a different story, flashing with a warning that Alpha Killian would do well to heed.

But perhaps, the Alpha thought himself as her only hope, so he ignored her warning. "I believe this is a fair trade, don’t you, Luna?" Alpha Killian asked with a smile playing on his lips.

"Need I remind Alpha Killian that my pack had saved your asses earlier from the Nightwing monsters?" Reana’s voice was laced with a subtle venom, her eyes narrowing slightly as she gazed at the West Wood Pack’s leader. "I believe that puts us squarely in the realm of ’favors owed’, not ’debts to be paid’."

Alpha Killian’s expression transformed into one of feigned innocence, his brow furrowing in mock confusion. "What do you mean, Luna Reana?" he asked, his voice dripping with insincerity. "I’m merely proposing a mutually beneficial arrangement. The Nightwing attack was unfortunate. But I fail to see how that has any bearing on our current discussion."

"What I mean is, Alpha Killian, I could have demanded a payment for one of my own saving your pack, or stood there and watched how your pack is razed to the ground, then attacked what remains," Reana’s voice was steady, her words dripping with a quiet intensity. "But I chose not to. I chose to help you, to protect your pack, and this is how you repay me? By demanding one of my own?" Her eyes flashed with indignation, her tone icy.

Alpha Killian looked away, a faint flush rising to his cheeks as he shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Tension rising in the hall. When he finally spoke, his voice was laced with a hint of defensiveness. "Of course, I’m grateful for your help. I’m just trying to secure the best possible future for my pack, Luna Reana."

"And you couldn’t even ask for the method to kill the monsters, instead you demand one of my pack members for a deal?" Reana’s tone was incredulous, her voice rising in indignation. "Your audacity knows no bounds, Alpha Killian."

"Luna Reana, our Alpha didn’t mean it that way." The beta’s voice was placating, but Reana’s expression remained unyielding. "He’s just... desperate to protect our pack," he continued, his eyes darting nervously to Alpha Killian, who was still seated, his face set in a scowl.

"Your Alpha does not wish to protect your pack." Reana rose from her seat, her movements fluid and commanding, and so did her pack members, their eyes gleaming with a fierce loyalty. "When you’re ready to be helped, you know where to find me."

With that, Reana turned and strode out of the hall, her pack falling into step behind her, leaving Alpha Killian and his pack members stewing in their own frustration.

"You shouldn’t have done that, Alpha," his beta, whispered urgently, his eyes darting nervously towards the door through which Reana and her pack had departed. "You’ve just insulted the one person who can help us survive this. And if we were to go to them for help in the future, who knows what they would demand?"

Alpha Killian’s scowl deepened, his jaw clenched in anger, but his beta’s words struck a chord, and for a moment, uncertainty flickered in his eyes.

Then, he rose as a plan surfaced in his mind, "Send a message to the other packs, none of them must help Luna Reana. When she can’t get help, she’ll come back crawling, and we’ll be the ones holding the reins then."

"Alpha!" His beta exclaimed, alarm etched on his face. That was a dangerous move. If Reana knew they had interfered with her alliances, she would unleash her wrath upon them.

Their West Wood Pack may be larger, but the Black Moon Pack warriors were fearsome and brutal, forged in the darkness of the forest and tempered by the blood of their enemies. Reana’s pack was a force to be reckoned with, and the beta knew that if the Black Moon Pack was pushed to the brink, they would show no mercy.

The thought sent a shiver down his spine as he gazed at his Alpha, wondering if he had made a fatal mistake of choosing to support him over his brother. "We can’t afford to make an enemy of Luna Reana, not now, Alpha."

"Your worries are unfounded." He hissed, "I have everything under control." A cunning glint lit up his eyes as he smiled to himself, confident that his plan would bring the arrogant she-wolf, Luna Reana to her knees.

...

Reana and her group arrived at the territories of the next pack, the Silver Ridge Pack, by evening, the sun dipping below the horizon as they approached the territory.

Ahead, she should see some members of the Silver Ridge Pack waiting to receive them, led by the Alpha himself, Alpha Julius.

Reana hoped they would be welcomed here. They’d barely stopped on the way for their horses to drink water, and Reana could see the weariness etched on the faces of her companions.

They were all tired and hungry, even their horses had refused to continue galloping.

"Welcome to the Silver Ridge Pack, Luna Reana." Alpha Julius’s voice was smooth and courteous. The Alpha stepped forward, holding her rein as she dismounted from her horse.

Ryder, who was beside her, narrowed his gaze at the Alpha, but Alpha Julius seemed not to notice the hostile glare.

"Thank you for receiving us, Alpha Julius," she said, her voice sincere. "We’ve come seeking your aid in a matter of great importance."

She didn’t want to waste time here. If they wouldn’t help her, she’d turn around and leave.
