Chapter 180: Made A Deal With A Devil

Clack!

The basin of water hit the ground. Before the rogue could scream, her body crumpled with a thud.

Warm blood painted the tent floor—and Kael’s hands. But it wasn’t enough. He wanted more.

The masked man didn’t flinch. He simply stood, watching, a faint smile curling his lips.

Kael hovered over the girl’s body, chest heaving, shirt soaked in her blood.

"She judged me," he rasped between breaths.

"Yes," the masked man replied coolly. "She spared your life—but named you rogue." He chuckled softly. "How wicked of her."

Kael lifted his gaze. Something in his eyes had broken. "She let me live," he whispered. "But took everything else." His fists trembled. "Then I’ll burn the world... until there’s nothing left for her to protect."

The masked man tilted his head. "But you can’t burn her world with Alpha Snow beside her, my dear beta."

Kael whirled around, eyes wide. "Alpha what?"

"I saw him," the man said, voice like silk. "Snow called her his woman. Meaning, even if you could kill her—which obviously, you can’t—you won’t get the chance."

Kael’s bloodied fingers twitched. His jaw clenched. Tendons stretched in his neck like drawn bowstrings. "Whose side are you on?" he growled. "You know you’re insufferable sometimes. And stop calling me your beta. I brought you here to make me an Alpha—and more."

The masked man strode across the tent, movements fluid as he grabbed a gold mask from one of the many masks he hung on a rack. "You didn’t bring me," he murmured, eyes gleaming. "You summoned me."

He paused, lips curling into a smug smile. "I don’t make Alphas." He shrugged and continued. "I only know how to be king. And you, Kael, will be my beta."

Kael scowled but didn’t speak. His jaw worked silently, teeth grinding as rage boiled behind his eyes.

The beautiful man put on his mask and stride towards Kael. He stopped in front of him, close enough that Kael could smell the strange mixture of incense and blood clinging to his robes.

"I said," the man repeated, voice low and certain, "you will be my beta. Together, we’ll achieve your dreams. You want the bigger throne, don’t you? Then, I’ll give you the bigger throne, but only as second," the masked man finished, his voice a quiet dagger. "The crown belongs to me. You’ll sit just beneath it, Kael. Close enough to taste the power... but never to wear it."

Kael’s fists trembled at his sides. "You think I’d settle for second?"

The man’s smile widened, slow and knowing. "You already are."

That hit harder than any blow. He growled low in his throat, but the beautiful man was already turning away now.

"You can choose to fight me," the man said, pausing at the edge of the tent. "But you’ll only be wasting time. Or..." He looked over his shoulder, eyes glinting like dying stars. "You can kneel and together, we’ll make them bleed."

Kael stood still, heart pounding and watched the masked man leave the tent, then as if weighing his gains, he lifted his legs and followed behind him as they walked out of the tent, into the woods. Cold wind colored with snow slammed into his face, sending a shiver through his spine.

"What plans do you have? How do we get rid of Snow?" Kael looked ahead and saw a group of rogues training under the snow. "Clearly, these army you’re building cannot win against that Luna bitch, let alone Snow."

"I never said they’re useful to kill Snow. I never said I wanted to kill Snow... not yet. To be a King, you need armies. Strong armies," the masked man said, his voice sharp as frostbite. "And these fools?" He gestured to the clumsy rogues clashing in the snow. "They’re food. Bait. Distractions. I intend to give you real armies, Kael. But only when the time is right."

Kael’s eyes narrowed. "So I’m supposed to babysit a band of broken wolves while you play riddles?"

The man chuckled. "You can’t talk about your comrades like that. We need them for the winter war, so you’re going to tolerate them, Kael."

"You don’t need them," Kael barked. "You only want them for fun, and nothing else."

He shook his head, "Before, I didn’t really need them, but now, I’ll make them undead, ones that cannot be defeated. Ones that would make the Black Moon Pack members tremble at their sight."

"Why? This wasn’t our plan."

"It has changed."

Kael’s brows drew together. "Changed? Since when do you change plans without telling me?"

The masked man halted abruptly and turned slowly, his golden mask catching the dull gray light like a predator’s eye. "Since you started thinking you were more than my beta."

Kael took a threatening step forward, his fists balled, eyes burning. "You forget who brought you back."

"No," the man said calmly. "You forget what you brought back."

Kael froze.

The masked man moved closer, his voice low, almost reverent. "Snow has what’s mine." He exhaled a soft laugh. "And he doesn’t intend to give it back. But I must take it from him."

Kael looked away, jaw tight, his voice grating. "Then what the hell are we supposed to do?"

"Change the game," the man whispered. "Raise the dead. Shatter their gods. And when they kneel to pray, we answer instead."

Kael’s eyes flicked up. "Necromancy? That’s forbidden even among rogues."

"I’m not a rogue. I’m a king." The masked man’s voice turned fevered, eyes alight behind the mask. "And kings make the rules."

Kael remained silent for a moment, then muttered, "And what will you become when you raise the dead?"

The masked man tilted his head, a slow, eerie smile spreading. "A god."

For the first time, Kael stepped back.

The man turned away once more, lifting a hand as snowflakes twisted unnaturally around his fingertips. "Train the rogues. Keep them desperate. Keep them loyal. When the blood moon rises, I’ll gift you your army."

Kael stared at the swirling snow.

And wondered if he’d made a deal with something far worse than a devil. But he couldn’t back down now. Reana abs the Black Moon Pack must pay for ruffling his feathers.
