MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA -
Chapter 178: Stray Bullets To Alpha Snow
Chapter 178: Stray Bullets To Alpha Snow
"...they may have sensed that the winter this time would be monstrous, so they want our pack. And they sent forth a person who probably deals with black magic, one who believes themselves to be above the goddess. That person who claimed to be my mate was probably here to gather intel."
"Alpha Snow of the Dark Snow Pack." Elder Benjamin suddenly spat. "It can only be Alpha Snow of the Dark Snow Pack. That person is a demon!"
Reana’s heart skipped a beat. Her eyes darkened. "What quarrel would he have with us?"
"Perhaps our delegation to his territory angered him," Maaya said, unease in her voice. "Or, just like every time he attacks a pack... he does it for fun. That could have been the reason he came. He came to cause fear and panic, then he attacked the temple to prove a point."
"This is why we never should’ve reached out to them. Alpha Snow despises us," Elder Thomas growled.
"If that were true, his Zeta wouldn’t be here pursuing one of our own," Elder Beth spoke, eyes narrowed.
"He could be acting alone, or he’d gone rogue without us knowing," Elder Thomas argued.
"He’s a Zeta, not a traitor," Elder Jaxson snapped. "Zetas follow orders. If he’s here, it’s either a test... or a trap."
A fresh wave of murmurs rolled through the chamber.
"Then we should imprison and question him," Thomas barked.
"No," Elder Beth said firmly. "If we act first, we confirm guilt we haven’t proven. That would play right into their hands. We don’t know if this is Alpha Snow’s doing. And we don’t make enemies lightly, especially not ones capable of leveling our Pack."
Reana’s head was throbbing. But she didn’t speak.
"But we must be cautious," Jaxson warned. "Whether it’s Alpha Snow or another force, this isn’t over. If what you say is true, Luna... then, the worst is yet to come."
"I suggest we offer sacrifice to the goddess," Beta Thane added. "Even if she isn’t angry, we should still seek her protection."
Reana finally gave a calm nod. "You’re right. But I can’t lead the worship this time."
She had long struggled with how to bring this up to the council... but now, the opportunity had presented itself, and she would seize it.
Silence followed. The Black Moon Pack had no oracle like the other packs. What they had was a seer. And unlike oracles, seers were far rarer, and far more coveted.
Traditionally, the seer of each generation led the people in worship. But before the last seer passed away, she appointed Reana to take on the role of Worship Leader until the next seer was born.
It had been years since that proclamation. And no new seer had emerged... or so they thought.
Elder Maya was the first to break the silence. Her voice cracked with disbelief. "You must lead, Luna. The goddess has always answered your call. If not you, then who?"
Reana’s expression remained impassive. "I said I can’t, not that I won’t. There’s a difference."
"What do you mean?" asked Elder Collins, frowning deeply.
"I’ll be leaving the pack for the Alpha Council in a few days." Her words drew every gaze in the room.
"Is this about Alpha Killian?"
They’ve heard what happened to Alpha Killian, and had been awaiting their retaliation since, but no one has sent a message. Although, they believed that the Luna could have been less agressive, they didn’t think that Alpha Killian should go scot-free after disrespecting their Luna.
Reana nodded. "Alpha Killian disrespected me simply because I am a woman. Now, I intend to make a statement... not just to him, but to every Alpha and every pack member who dares to look down on the Black Moon Pack."
She leaned forward, her voice sharpening. "And to the threat lurking in the shadows, I want them to know that the next time they set foot on our lands, they will not leave alive."
The council stared at her, confusion etched into their faces. They didn’t yet understand what she was building toward.
"That’s why," she said slowly, "our packs will become one."
Gasps rang out across the chamber.
"You can’t be serious," Elder Thomas thundered, half-rising from his seat. "That would be a declaration of war!"
Reana’s gaze was like frostfire. "No. It will be a demonstration of strength."
Elder Beth’s voice trembled. "But the West Wood Pack has done us no harm."
"Yet," Reana replied coldly. "But they are weak, disorganized, and poorly defended. If the enemy in the shadows is watching, let them see us grow stronger, not weaker. Let them know we are not prey—we are predators."
Beta Thane coughed dryly, his brow furrowed. "So... we become the aggressor?"
Reana shook her head. "We become their helper." She continued, "They’re already being torn apart by monsters. Sooner or later, they’ll fall. Would you rather stand by and watch that happen?"
But she wasn’t done. "Once the West Wood Pack falls, we’ll become the next. Those monsters aren’t like the ones we fight. These ones fly. And this walls will not be able to stop them."
Silence fell over the room. Everyone was thinking about it, and they could see things from the Luna’s angle now, but there was still some problems.
Elder Jaxson’s voice was barely a whisper. "What if the Alpha Council disapproves? Taking over another pack is not so easy –Especially as a woman."
"You don’t have to worry about that," Reana said. "I’ll handle the council. I’ll do everything in my power to ensure both packs survive—with as few casualties as possible."
Seeing the council lost in thought, she added, "I also intend to collaborate with the human village. In return, we’ll grant them access to the crystal mine..."
The room erupted with voices.
"What is crystal mine?" Beta Thane asked.
"It’s found in the West Wood Pack. It’s not something useful for us werewolves. But extremely useful for the humans." She replied.
Elder Thomas snapped. "Whatever that is, must be sacred! If the goddess disapproves–"
