MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA -
Chapter 164: Brothers’ Plan
Chapter 164: Brothers’ Plan
Malric sighed. "Luna Reana is a force and you know it, yet you run your mouth in her presence." He frowned. "You should have kept your hatred for her hidden deep beneath your intestines, Killian. You shouldn’t have made this mistake..." He clenched his teeth, biting back the harsh criticism that was just at the tip of his tongue.
Killian turned his head slowly, and for the first time since the ambush, his eyes held something close to life.
His brother. His twin brother, whom he loved, yet couldn’t stand the sight of. "You’ll become the Alpha now. It’s what you’ve always wanted."
Malric’s jaw tightened at Killian’s words, a mix of disbelief and something darker flashing across his face. He was used to scheming and wanting his brother off that seat.
He was used to hating his brother for being the one their parents and siblings loved the most. He thought the knowledge of his brother, or the sight of him like this would make him happy.
He’d laughed in the hall, even felt glee, but now, seeing his brother with his own eyes, he didn’t feel that happiness he thought.
Maybe he was just emotional because of how the meeting turned out. The thought of that bastard, Theon made his suppressed anger rise to the surface once more. And he growled.
"You think this is what I wanted? You think I wanted this? To wear your title like a crown of thorns while you lie there in the mess you created?" He paused, struggling to keep his emotions in check. "I never wanted to be Alpha like this. Not like this. I wanted you fit and healthy, living under my shadow.
"I wanted our parents to look up from their graves and regret treating me like trash... I wanted a fair battle of wits, schemes, and greed with you. That was what I wanted, Killian, not you losing to me in this manner. Not you causing a mess that’s threatening our position in the pack!" In the end, he couldn’t control his anger and flared up.
Killian’s eyes flickered, "Wh– what are you talking about?"
"Your beta, that bastard son of a bitch has shown interest in becoming the Alpha. He’s contesting against me!" he took a deep breath, trying to calm his fury. "The spectrum will leave our family if he ever gets chosen by the Alpha council. That’s disastrous, brother."
Killian’s eyes widened slightly, his expression shifting from confusion to a more dangerous wariness. "Theon... he’s doing what? B– but he’s a low born. Low borns can’t become Alphas. He became a Beta because Father decreed him one."
Malric’s gaze darkened, his voice dropping to a venomous whisper. "He’s actually from the house of Vael. He’s the late Beta Simon Vael’s bastard son."
Killian’s brow furrowed, disbelief still clouding his features. "But... if that’s true, why wasn’t he elevated sooner? Why didn’t Father make it known?" His mind raced. If Theon truly has the blood of Vael coursing through his veins, then, he could become an Alpha.
Malric’s lips curled into a cold, humorless smile. "Because Theon’s existence was kept secret for a reason." He paused, "Elder Garrick told me after the meeting that Theon was rejected by his father because there was a prophecy that Theon would wrestle with the heavens – meaning he’d wrestle with the Alpha.
"It was treason, so his father sent his mother away. Then, his mother sacrificed herself to change his destiny. But it seems..." He clenched his jaw, letting his brother conclude his meaning. "Theon is not just a threat; he’s a ticking time bomb."
Killian’s world shattered, finally grasping the full picture. He tried to sit up but the slight movement agitated his fresh wound and he hissed.
"Careful," Malric frowned as he supported him to a sitting position. "Why is it still so painful? Shouldn’t you be healing well?"
Killian’s gaze shifted to where his arm used to be. "I don’t understand either."
He was a werewolf. Although the healing couldn’t happen at once, it was supposed to have at least stopped hurting so bad.
It’s been three days, yet the wound still felt fresh, raw, and the pain was gnawing at his senses.
Sometimes, it felt like it was seeping deeper into his very core. He could feel the familiar power of his wolf stirring inside him, urging him to heal faster, but something was suppressing it, binding it, keeping him from fully recovering.
Malric watched him carefully, his brow furrowed in suspicion. "This doesn’t make sense," he murmured. "It should be healed by now. What’s different about this wound?"
Killian clenched his jaw, resisting the urge to lash out. His werewolf instincts told him to tear apart whatever was causing the delay in his healing. But how would he do that if he didn’t know what?
Suddenly, Malric’s eyes widened, as if he got a revelation. "Could you have been poisoned!?"
However, Killian simply shook his head, "I’ve asked the healer that too. She checked but didn’t detect any poisons. Anyway, she told me to rest well. Perhaps, it’s taking longer because I’m stressed and unwilling to accept my fate."
"Oh," that made sense. Malric thought. He’d also be unwilling to accept such a fate too.
"Theon..." Killian sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. "I’ve always suspected he was in bed with that Luna bitch. I had my doubts from the beginning. The way he’d always pushed me toward favoring that slut... it was just too obvious, yet I allowed myself to fall into their schemes."
Malric’s eyes narrowed, catching the venom in Killian’s words. "You think he betrayed us?" he asked, his tone cold and calculating.
"I’m sure." Killian clenched his fist. "But I’ll never allow him to take this pack." He turned to his brother. "Send words to Aunt Ruth. Tell her the situation of our family. She knows what to do."
Malric nodded, "I’ll send word to Aunt, but we can’t act without confirmation. We don’t want to make a mistake and show our cards too early."
Killian’s jaw tightened. "I don’t care about mistakes right now, Malric. If we wait too long, we’ll lose everything. I trust Aunt to know who’s really on our side, and she’s the only one who can reach Alpha Dennis before the Alpha Council meeting."
"I understand," Malric replied, his voice low but firm. "I’ll do that right away."
A flicker of something that could have been regret, or maybe just exhaustion, crossed Killian’s eyes. His brother’s submission reminded him of just how much had changed – how far they had fallen.
They used to be like this - him giving orders and his brother making sure it was carried out to the last detail. Until their father died and he became distant and lost himself in alcohol and women.
And how, they’ve reunited under the threat of their world, power, and family’s legacy shattering at any moment.
Once this matter was settled, he’d make sure they remained standing together, like this.
And as for that whore, Reana...
His jaw clenched, nails digging into his palm, as his wolf howled with a promise of a bitter revenge.
