Chapter 143: The Human Caravan

Chapter 143: The Human Caravan

The human village’s caravan, a long line of carriages, horses, carts, and people, wound its way up the path towards the pack’s gathering grounds.

The human males, dressed in simple tunics and thick cloaks, and their women - pretty, delicate, and cute, adorned in colorful dresses with thick cloaks over their shoulders, as the weather was growing increasingly colder...winter was less than a month.

They got out of their carriages, looking around in awe at the towering trees and the sprawling layout of the pack’s homes.

At the forefront of the caravan, a tall, imposing figure rode a majestic black stallion - Detroit. He was dressed in a fur cloak, his front opened, revealing a tattoo of a red wolf on one breast, and a black wolf on the other.

His eyes sharp with anger and ruthlessness as he surveyed his surroundings, as if searching for her or him - the dead man who snatched his woman.

Him?

Reana frowned slightly at the sight of Detroit. But she maintained her diplomatic image, standing their in full glory wearing her amour of pride, power, and majesty.

Behind her was an entourage of council members and high-ranking warriors. And pack members, who hurdled up in a short distance, scrutinizing the strangers.

They could tell that these were humans, but what mesmerized, hypnotized, and charmed them the most were their delicate girls. Some had flower crowns adorning or shining adornments on their hair, with skin glittering under the morning sun. Their faces glowing with prosperity and calmness.

In one word, they looked like goddesses– a breath of fresh air from their wild werewolves women.

As for the human males, they looked weathered and rugged, their faces lined with the signs of hard work, pride, wisdom, and determination.

At one glance, it was obvious that the human’s culture was different from theirs – the males toiled for the women.

Some of the unhinged male werewolves swallowed. Their eyes glued on the adorable human women, adrenaline rushing to their heads, as their wild nature threatened to take over.

But with their Luna standing there, coupled with those scary-looking werewolves accompanying the humans, they didn’t dare to make a move on the human females.

Meanwhile, the humans too, accessed them with equal scrutiny, with a mix of caution and curiosity — they still weren’t receptive of werewolves they weren’t familiar with.

The trauma left by the Crimson Caravan was still there, but their view of Luna Reana and her small group who came to their village, was different.

Detroit raised a hand, halting the caravan behind him. He dismounted his horse but didn’t step forward. Instead, a human did.

He approached Reana, his movements confident and deliberate, then bowed low, his eyes never leaving hers, and spoke in a deep, resonant voice, filled with respect.

"Greetings, Luna. We’ve come to trade and share information." He continued, "We bring goods and news from the wider world beyond your borders."

Reana returned his smile, "Welcome to my pack," she began, her tone equally respectful and cardial. "You’ve traveled days and nights to get here. Please, accept my hospitality and rest for a while. Your goods and news can wait, but your well-being cannot."

Her words were gracious, her smile warm, but her eyes remained watchful, observing Detroit’s every move. She gestured to the head of the servants, "Margaret, please take them to the visitors’ quarters and make sure they’re well settled in." She continued, "Also, inform the kitchen to prepare a feast."

"Yes, Luna,"

"Thank you for your hospitality, Luna," the man bowed once more, before gesturing to his people to follow the woman – Margaret.

The humans left with their caravan, save for the members of the Dark Snow Pack, their horses and two long carts, covered with a thick black cloth.

Meanwhile, Detroit didn’t move an inch to follow them, instead, he took a step, then another, and another, until he was standing before the Luna.

Kira and the others were on high alert. Those who followed the Luna to the human village already knew who Detroit was, but others didn’t.

However, upon perceiving their unfamiliar scent, their rough, rugged, and scary-looking self, coupled with their braided hair, the bones and feathers adorning their hair, the Black Moon Pack members suddenly had a bad feeling about about the group.

Before leaving for the human village, Reana didn’t tell the council members. But when she returned, she shared the good news with them. But she didn’t go into details - she didn’t talk about Ryder’s relationship with them, or the crystal mine they wanted from her. She also didn’t tell them the villager’s affiliation with the Western Islands – Dark Snow Pack.

So, seeing a fearsome werewolf closing the distance with their Luna while his people stood galantly behind him, the pack warriors groaned, their hackles raising as they readied to defend their Luna.

Suddenly, Detroit did the unexpected.

The fearsome man went on one knee, his head lowered in a gesture of respect. Everyone was stunned, but that wasn’t all.

"Luna Reana of the Black Moon Pack, I, Zeta Detroit of the Dark Snow Pack seeks your pack member, Mirian’s hand in marriage. For her dowry, I offer five chests of gold, five boxes of silk, five boxes of brocade, five boxes of winter materials, five boxes of jewelry, five boxes of shoes, a property for her in the Southern islands."

He continued without lifting his head. "To the Black Moon Pack, as a token of appreciation for raising such a wonderful woman, I give ten chests of gold, and my service for one month."

A pin drop silence.

Too quiet that even a fly didn’t dare to flap its wings. The air itself froze, breath seized, heartbeats stopped. And eyes widened.

The silence was consuming. Seconds stretched into minutes. Slowly, Detroit lifted his head, locking eyes with Reana.

She had no expression on her face. It was blank, eyes cold like they’d always been.

Then, someone breathed too loudly. And slowly, she blinked.

"Wh– what did he say?" someone stuttered.

Every one who heard was in disbelief and shock. All eyes fixed on Detroit and Reana.

Was he insane?

Dowry? What was that?

How could he be willing to throw so much wealth at an omega, a servant?! Wealth that could feed, clothe, and shelter an entire pack for months!

The pack members’ minds reeled with the sheer audacity of Detroit’s self-destruction.

No one in their right mind would give away such wealth! To a woman! A lowly omega!
