MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA
Chapter 138: Ryder’s Powers

Chapter 138: Ryder’s Powers

The bed frame had collapsed from yesterday’s fierce activities. And now, the mattress was sitting in a corner of the room.

Ryder leaned his back against the wall and Reana sat beside him, her head turned towards him, waiting patiently for him to start talking.

But instead of talking, Ryder brought his weight down on her - his head resting on her lap, gaze on the ceiling.

"You’re right, I’m different," he began, his gaze shifting back to her face. "I’m gifted."

"Such as?" She was also gifted, so she wasn’t surprised.

"My mindlink is upgraded..." he didn’t know how to put it.

Their kind has telepathy skills – mindlink. But in Ryder’s case, his was more advanced.

"Mine don’t only stop at mindlinking, I control minds, thoughts, and even pressure the mind into exploding, causing instant death."

Reana took a sharp breath. Speechless for a moment. She’d guessed he was powerful but not like this.

Was that how he killed Hale and those people? Pressuring their minds until they exploded and died?

As if he read her thoughts, he smiled faintly, "Hale and those people died from mind pressure."

Reana’s eyes widened slightly. "You can read my mind?" otherwise, how did he know what she was thinking?

He shook his head, "I can’t read your mind. Your mental ability is profound, unlike the others."

Reana blinked. "What you’re saying is...?"

"I can’t read the mind of gifted people," Ryder explained, his eyes locked onto hers. "Their minds are...shielded, I suppose. But I can sense their emotions, their intentions. And sometimes, if I’m close enough, I can pick up on their thoughts."

Reana’s eyes narrowed slightly, her mind racing with the implications of this. Could he know she was a seer? Their conversation in her tent, on their way back from the other packs invaded her mind.

Her eyes flashed as she remembered his words. Ryder spoke like he knew about seers. He also claimed to have met a seer on one of his adventures.

Could it be... He was referring to her?!

She blinked, looking down at him and met his knowing gaze. "You knew," she confirmed. "You knew what I was."

"Yes. I know you’re a seer."

Reana stared at him. Unsure of what to think, how to react, or what to say. She felt like she was standing on shaky ground, unsure of what would happen next.

Ryder’s knowing gaze seemed to bore into her very soul, as if he could see all her secrets and fears.

This was a secret sued been hiding all her life, yet a random pack member knew all along.

How many of her pack members were gifted, and how many knew of her own gift?

If there were, would those people be with her or be against her?

"How long have you known?" she asked finally, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ryder’s gaze never wavered, his eyes still locked onto hers. "Since the first time I came close to you. Three years ago."

Reana’s eyes narrowed slightly, ransacking her mind for any sign that she’s seen him three years ago, but she couldn’t. She didn’t know Ryder until two months ago.

Reana believed that if she’d seen him before, with how good-looking he was, she wouldn’t have forgotten his face.

"I can’t remember seeing you," she said.

"You wouldn’t. You were upset, barged into the servant quarters and killed someone, a rogue disguised as a pack member."

Reana had an instant flashback.

It was the morning of her coronation day. The day she was supposed to marry Hale. After seeing the vision of him getting killed, she stormed into the servant quarters and killed the assassin.

She didn’t even notice that someone was there. Even though she was angry, she could have noticed. Unless, he wasn’t in the room, but close by.

"Were you stalking me?" She raised a brow.

"Not exactly." He chuckled. But he’d indeed been stalking, or say, protecting her from the shadows.

There were countless sneak attacks aiming for her life at that period. Her people were out to get her.

That could be another reason he felt Hale didn’t deserve her. He was too careless.

One time, she was poisoned. If he didn’t walk into her room in the middle of the night and fed her his blood, she might have died. Thanks to his blood, she became immune to poisons.

Reana scoffed and rolled her eyes. She didn’t buy it. "Not exactly could also mean, ’not really but close’."

He chuckled. "Okay fine," he said. "I was keeping an eye on you." He continued before she could ask. "There were people who wanted you dead. Knowing this, I couldn’t leave you alone."

Seeing her look of ’continue’, he sighed. "Many a time, I saw them sneaking around you. I chose to work with the kitchen not because I liked the heat and smoke, but because I didn’t want another incident of anyone poisoning you again."

Reana’s eyes flashed. "You knew that too?"

He nodded, "I fed you my blood and made you immune to poison, but there was no telling what those people would do. So, I couldn’t take chances."

Ryder didn’t tell her how many servants he had to get rid off. Including the head chief, whom he buried alive behind the kitchen – after that poison incident.

As for why he didn’t just kill Kael and his family, it was because he knew that Reana could kill them, yet she left them alone. Maybe she had a reason, so to not disrupt her plans, he left them too. But not without giving him issues too.

The day Kael found his mate, Ryder kidnapped her and sent her to the Southern islands. It was Kael’s punishment. Ever since, Kael had been searching high and low for her.

His reason for not always being in the pack was to search for his mate.

As for Vivian, Ryder manipulated her mind, making her reject her mate and falling in love with Ryan.

Karl, well, he wouldn’t be able to have children no matter how hard he tried.

And Madam Katherine Ryder manipulated her mind, making that which she craved become unbearable. As the years stretched out, if she couldn’t get what she desperately craved, it would destroy her.

All of these, Reana didn’t need to know.

"You fed me your blood?"
