MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA -
Chapter 136: Reana’s Look-alike
Chapter 136: Reana’s Look-alike
Voices of two grown men could be heard from a distance, arguing, pulling Luna Reana forward until she was standing beside them, watching the two men like a bystander.
The blurred-faced man had long, red hair that cascaded down his back in waves. The other man, whom she could see his face clearly, looked like Reana – a male version of her.
"...I love you too. I do, but we can’t be together. I have a mate. I have children –grown ass children! And the Alpha of my Black Moon Pack. My people needs me–"
"They don’t need you!" the red haired-man yelled, his voice thick with frustration. "You have three grown boys, one of them is your Heir. He’s twenty eight this year. He could rule in your stead. Come with me, Reana, please."
Luna Reana frowned. First off, the voices sounded familiar. The scene looked familiar. And the name and face...those were hers!
How could she be a man here? What’s going on? Her thoughts were cut off when the man who looked like her began.
"And my Luna? She’s my mate. How can I forsake her? She needs me too. Moreover, you’re a man, just like me. I can’t do this."
"I’m your mate too!" Sadness welled up in the red-haired man’s voice. "You know it, I know it. We’ve been bound together for centuries, our souls tied by a thread that can’t be broken. Don’t you feel it, Reana? Don’t you feel the pull of our connection?" he went on his knees. "Please, don’t break me more than I already am. Please, Reana..."
The man’s words shook Luna Reana to her core. It felt as if she was the recipient of his words. She felt a surge of longing, a deep ache in her chest that seemed to echo the man’s words.
She wanted to go to him, to be with him, but she couldn’t move forward. It felt like her feet were stuck. She tried to speak, but no words came out. It felt like she was brought here only to watch and not do anything.
"Please, Reana..." he pleaded more. His voice was raw, emotional, as he tried to control his tears. He stretched out his hand. "Come with me," he whispered, his voice cracking with pain and a hint of hope. "Leave it all behind. We’ll start anew, just you and me."
However, Luna Reana’s look alike took a step back. "Sorry, I can’t go with you. I’ve chosen where I want to be, and it’s not with you."
The red-haired man froze. "Y– you promised," the man choked, his voice barely above a whisper. "You promised me, Reana. You said you’d always be mine. You said I should look for you in every lifetime...you promised me."
"Stop calling me that!" He lost it. "I’m a man. My name is Ryder! Call me Ryder! I’m not Reana and I was not in whatever lifetime you’re talking about!"
Luna Reana felt a pang of anger at her look alike. How could he be so heartless? She wished she could go to him and slap some sense into him.
The man with the red hair rose to his feet, his voice calm, as if placating a child. "It’s not your fault," he said calmly, "It’s the Moon goddess’s fault. She did this to you. To me." He took a careful step forward, "I, I won’t hold you accountable for hurting me." The man said, his voice still shaking with emotion. "You, you’re still the same soul, the same heart that I have loved for centuries. You are still my mate."
"You keep talking about lifetimes. About centuries!" Reana’s look alike yelled, frustration building inside him. "I admit that I love you. But no, there’s no such lifetimes. We have no such life—"
"We did, Reana, we did." The red-haired man became desperate. "It’s a curse. That woman cursed me. She took you away from me and cursed me for retaliating. Please, listen to me, I’m not lying. I—"
"Right, you’re not lying. But you’re insane," he continued, "A madman, who would do anything, say anything, just to find an excuse for being evil."
Luna Reana froze, so did the red-haired man.
The red-haired man’s face contorted in pain, his eyes welling up with tears. He shook his head, "No, I’m not insane," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "I’m just...I’m just trying to find my way back to you."
Luna Reana felt a pang of sympathy for the red-haired man, despite her look-alike’s harsh words. She wanted to reach out to him, to comfort him, but she was stuck in this observer role, unable to move or speak.
Ryder, her look-alike, shook his head, his expression unyielding. "I don’t believe you," he said, his voice firm. "You’re just trying to manipulate me, to get me to leave my family and my pack."
The red-haired man’s face crumpled, his body shaking with sobs. "No, I’m not trying to manipulate you," he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "I’m just–"
"I don’t want to see you anymore! Whether you live or die, I don’t care. I won’t care. My family and pack is all that matters, not some flimsy, abominable emotions."
Luna Reana gasped soundlessly, shocked beyond words. She saw the red-haired man stiffen.
He continued, "The more I think about it, the more I start to feel that you used some black magic on me. I’ve never felt anything for a man, but the moment I saw you, this feeling started..."
Luna Reana’s fists clenched. How could her look-alike be so cruel and heartless? Couldn’t he see that the red-haired man was broken?
Suddenly, the red-haired man chuckled, an ominous chuckle that shook Luna Reana’s heart, warning her of an impending disaster.
"Your family is all that matters? You don’t care whether I live or die? Fine." He said, "I didn’t want to kill anyone, but you’ve forced my hand. Reana," he stepped forward. "I’ll show you what an insane man like me is capable of..."
Reana jolted awake and sat up in bed, her heart thudding in her chest, heavy with the remnant of the emotions – her chest hurt.
