Chapter 328: Flashback - 68
When Silas and Orian reached the palace, they both came out from the carriage and stepped into the palace. But it was a little quiet, which was really unexpected, because they had expected Jeren to be in the main hall to welcome them.
"Silas, where is Dad?" Orian asked.
But Silas also didn’t know where Jeren was right now. "I don’t know. Let’s just check in his study."
They both went to the study. Silas tried to open the door but he stopped and knocked on the door. And when he heard "come in", he opened the door and they both stepped inside. But they couldn’t believe their eyes after what they saw. Jeren was sitting there with Ariel.
At first glance, both of them didn’t recognize Ariel. Just then they remembered that Ariel was the one they saw last time coming out of Jeren’s study. And seeing them sitting together, they caught on that Ariel must be Jeren’s ex—the one he was talking about last night.
"Ohh. My dear sons, you both are here. Come and have a seat."
Silas and Orian sat down across from them. And they exchanged glances because of course they wanted to ask Jeren.
"Did you enjoy your time there, son?" Jeren asked.
"Yes Dad, we did. But who is he?" Silas pointed at Ariel with his eyes to ask.
"Haha... Do you remember last time I told you about my ex who sent me a letter? He is that ex, and we are in a relationship again."
"WHAT?!" both said at the same time.

A few days ago, Jeren received the letter on the same night when Silas and Orian were about to leave. But in the letter, something was written that changed everything.
---
My dear Jeren,
It’s been more than 18 years since we broke up and never met again. And I really thought all these years I had forgotten about you, that I didn’t love you. But after meeting you again, I realized that I was wrong.
The fire of love is still inside me, and it’s still burning. I know when you were trying to talk with me, I refused to say anything because I was still scared inside. There are many things I haven’t told you yet. And I have never gotten into a relationship with anyone after you. You were my first and last.
If it’s possible, can you come to meet me at my guild? If not, then I can also come to you. Because for this matter, it would be best if we talk face to face. And I am sorry for everything.
— Your Ariel
---
When Jeren had read this letter, at that exact moment Silas and Orian came inside. He didn’t tell them everything, but yes, he didn’t lie to them either. And when they left, Jeren also told the servants to get the carriage ready and left from there, leaving the palace to his assistant who worked overtime every day.
After a while, when Jeren reached Ariel’s guild, people didn’t recognize him because he was wearing a black cloak and an eye mask. So when he went inside, people were drinking there.
Jeren didn’t know where to find Ariel now, even though he had come inside. But just then someone touched his shoulder from behind, which made Jeren turn around, and he saw Ariel there.
Ariel grabbed Jeren’s hand and took him to his office, which was in the basement of the place—where no one was allowed to come unless they had permission from Ariel.
"Wow, I didn’t realize that your guild has become very big. Your office is also nice." Jeren was glancing around the whole office while Ariel sat down on his seat.
"Jeren, why don’t you take a seat?"
Jeren sat down and joined his hands while his gaze locked with Ariel. Because now, whatever needed to be said, it would be from Ariel.
"I got your letter, and I have read it too," Jeren said while picking up the gems from the table and starting to rub his thumb on them.
"Yes, Jeren, I was also about to get to that subject. But before that, I want to ask you a few questions. I hope you don’t mind answering me?"
"Sure." Jeren was ready to answer every question from Ariel.
"You have two sons. What about their mother? Have you ever loved her, and what happened to her?"
Jeren chuckled hearing this—that Ariel was interested in him, that’s why he was asking this question.
Jeren smiled gently and told everything to Ariel—what had happened 18 years ago, how Silas’s mother had come to him during his rut cycle, and how she had died while giving birth. And he had tried to love her but couldn’t. Still, he took care of her out of responsibility.
"So you didn’t really love her?" Ariel seemed happy somehow after hearing this.
"Yes, I didn’t love her. But she was a good woman whom I really wanted to take care of."
Jeren didn’t realize he shouldn’t have said this. And now Ariel was staring at him. But still, he calmed himself down, because there were other important matters waiting for them.
"Jeren, let me tell you what your parents had told me, which made me break up with you."
Jeren sat tightly in his seat to hear this. Ariel told everything—how that year, Jeren’s parents had come to Ariel, saying if Jeren got married to Ariel, they would have no choice other than killing Jeren. Because Jeren was not ready to listen to them out of love.
They had threatened Ariel with Jeren’s life.
If anyone threatened Ariel to kill him, he wouldn’t have taken it seriously. But it was about Jeren—his partner, his lover—and Ariel didn’t want Jeren to die. Because Jeren’s parents had also said to him there was punishment written in their history book for those who entered relationships despite being the same gender, like alpha-alpha and omega-omega.
And they had even said they would start giving poison to Jeren every day in his food. Which really scared Ariel, and he broke up with Jeren and didn’t meet him again. But now, he had told every piece of truth to Jeren.
