Chapter 77: Episode 7.5 A Promise

After thirty minutes, Shen Yuan and Bai Tingfeng were seen exiting the house. Smugness and satisfaction are evident in the former’s face, indicating that the omega achieved his goal.

Bai Tingfeng was following a step behind Shen Yuan, His eyes trailing thoughtfully at the omega’s back. Once they reached the door, he tactfully opened it for Shen Yuan. The shameless fox spirit acted as if this was a natural thing and entered the car with his head held high.

"You’re doing great, Master Bai."

The alpha just responded with a small, lopsided smile. Once he was seated on the other side of the passenger seat, he signaled their chauffeur to drive off.

"Are we sure we are doing this?" He asked Shen Yuan as their car started moving.

Shen Yuan first looked inquiringly at Bai Tingfeng like, saying, "What are you talking about?"

"Are you referring to my decision to let him off the law’s hook and take him in as my lackey or the first mission I asked him to do?"

"Both?" Bai Tingfeng responded. These two are the questions hanging in the back of his head, but his genuine main concern was something else. "I thought that you already entrusted me to be your grim reaper. Do you really need to accept him?"

Shen Yuan looked at the sleek and brooding alpha male with his forehead slightly creased. "Huh? Based on your reaction a while ago, I suppose you feel sorry for him. Why do you sound dissatisfied now?"

But after saying that, he realized the slightly blue expression on Bai Tingfeng’s face. The sly nine-tailed fox looked even more smug than when Gu Jinpeng agreed to his terms.

"Oh, you’re jealous. Okay, that’s a little too early. But okay. Hang in there."

Shen Yuan even topped it off with a "fighting!" hand gesture. In the meantime, this is how he responded to the subtle advances of Bai Tingfeng, teasing him.

Bai Tingfeng just watched with the side of his lips slightly raised and eyes flashing a soft gaze.

Probably he was jealous of Gu Jinpeng. He is an alpha, anyway. But at the tightest wrinkle at the back of his brain, he admits that Shen Yuan was right. He felt sorry for Gu Jinpeng.

Shen Yuan then comfortably shifted on his seat and started to ponder the answers he would give to Bai Tingfeng.

For starters, he feels no remorse or pity towards Gu Jinpeng— or at least that is what he believed. He’s been existing for thousands of years now, and he frequently visited human civilization since time immemorial.

There are countless despair, tragedies, and accidents happening to people regardless of the era. He would be saddened at the sight, but that was it. The celestial fox spirit never let pity blossom in his heart because if he did, he would vanish without a trace and become a martyr.

So, yes. Shen Yuan was confident that his decision was made without a trace of emotions.

And he isn’t saving anyone. Gu Jinpeng was here to slave away in exchange for money and a little help for his baby brother.

From now on, he is bound to sort out the shittiest shit Shen Yuan wouldn’t do. That is Gu Jinpeng’s punishment from heaven—literally.

If the human authorities were not capable enough to trace and capture Gu Jinpeng, then this celestial being who happened to end up in this wild omegaverse world is willing to discipline the former Phantom One-shot with grace and violence combined.

The celestial fox spirit huffed a smile.

"I took him in because, firstly, he’s got the guts to commit crimes, so that means he could easily handle my viciousness to some certain extent. Unlike Assistant Su, who almost pissed in his pants."

"Besides, I got to give credit to the man. As Phantom One-shot, he killed high-profile personalities who all had tight security. He is quite a man of talents."

The alpha’s face turned sour.

"Assistant Su worked hard for you, you know," Bai Tingfeng said in defense of his assistant and to calm his vinegar.

"Yes, and I really appreciate that. That’s why he could now rest easily and keep on being an assistant. I have someone who could do the dirty work."

That is what Shen Yuan said. But, what he really meant by that was he needed someone who lived or at least dipped their toes in the muddy waters of the illegal underground world.

That would surely help him in making countermeasures against that vile terrorist group, The Cardinals.

So, Gu Jinpeng may be a dog, but at least he is a military-trained K9.

Bai Tingfeng answered like a rascal, "Dirty work, you mean stalking Zhou Kai?"

Hearing this, Shen Yuan bursted laughing.

"Now, that is the fun part. Gosh, I could almost recall the exact expressions that the two of you made when I ordered my new dog to stalk Zhou Kai like a Yandere boyfriend. Why do you have to look disgusted?"

"New dog?" Bai Tingfeng repeated in his head, internally flinching. He is at a loss if he should commend Shen Yuan for his understanding and kindness or point out that the way he refers to Gu Jinpeng is bullying.

"A male alpha stalking a male alpha is a foul."

Shen Yuan leisurely propped his elbow beside the car window and rested his well-sculpted jaw on his knuckle. With a slight turn to the right, he threw a side-eye at Bai Tingfeng.

"And doing it to an omega is okay?"

Bai Tingfeng was in a daze for a few moments because of this sudden magazine-like pose. But then, he quickly collected himself and responded.

"Absolutely not!" Bai Tingfeng denied with passion.

The celestial fox spirit clicked his tongue and acted as if he just heard the terrible and most regretful news.

"Too bad. I thought you would be a stalker type because you took my handkerchief. That was kept in my side pocket, so I assumed earlier that you did this so that you could smell the scent of my legs left on the cloth."

The air suddenly rose in Celsius.

Bai Tingfeng blushed, and at the same time, their car suddenly shook because of a sudden break.

"I-I apologize, Master Shen, Master Bai," the timid-looking beta male was as red as ripe tomatoes.

"That’s fine. Don’t sweat it. You can turn the temperature down. It seems like you are feeling hot," Shen Yuan just said casually.

The chauffeur was about to refuse, but he was interrupted by his boss, Bai Tingfeng.

"Turn the temperature down, please," Bai Tingfeng asked the chauffeur, almost an order.

"Yes, Master Bai!"

Shen Yuan snickered and then murmured, "Weak."

"This alpha male dared to declare that he would make me fall in love with him but would easily get flustered with just my teasing. What a letdown. At this rate, it would take him until the end of his life if he wanted to break through the walls of my heart," the sly and flirty fox thought.

But unbeknownst to him, his lips are showing a soft smile on his lips. The celestial fox spirit isn’t aware that he is no longer overthinking about things because he is enjoying this little chase they are playing.

Trying to douse the hotness of his face using the cold air inside the car, Bai Tingfeng shifted his sitting position and made his legs sit a little tighter.

Talking about stalking any further would bring Bai Tingfeng into a very precarious situation, so he decided to change the topic promptly.

"Anyway, you will still not use the bullet yet?" Bai Tingfeng refers to the one that he recast from Gu Jinpeng’s "warning shot."

Shen Yuan raised an eyebrow, and a sinister smile was drawn on his luscious lips.

"Bai Tingfeng, you seem to have a small misconception. Zhou Kai’s mistake doesn’t warrant me to unalive him. He’s just a minor villain in the plot, so I will not give him that honor."

"All I wanted was to teach him what it feels like to be hunted. And would do it in a very steady and slow manner so that his brain would constantly goad him to be careful in his every movement at all times."

Bai Tingfeng subconsciously gulped a mouthful of his saliva.

Isn’t that the same as pushing someone to become mentally unstable?

Now, the alpha knows that his husband could become the kindest person to people he recognized in some certain way, and at the same time, Shen Yuan could also be exceptionally ruthless towards his enemy.

Is this the reason why Shen Yuan was discreetly called the Witch by some of the passing acquaintances that he met?

"Well, good for him. The entire experience will give him a good lesson. Zhou Kai would know that although he is a rotten piece of shit, he still has considerable meat, so he isn’t safe if an apex predator like me decided to deal with him."

"You will scar him in this life," Bai Tingfeng said in passing.

"What else can I say? Scars make a man."

Truly a no-nonsense and pathetic omega.

Bai Tingfeng felt a rush of adrenalin spreading in his chest.

"Now, your words just taught me that I should never break your trust, Shen Yuan."

"Yes, you really shouldn’t. Or else I would chop off your thing and then throw it into the ocean to become a sea cucumber," Shen Yuan answered without blinking.

"Don’t worry. I won’t," the alpha whispered gently.

It was a genuine promise.
