Chapter 54: Episode 6.6

"What the fuck?" One audience couldn’t help but exclaim upon seeing the situation unfolding in the arena. In his expression, he looks lost and in utter disbelief, but only he knows the bubbling excitement he is feeling.

"Damn, is this for real?! We are witnessing a showdown between two S-Class Awakeners?! Fuuuuck!!" The ecstatic audience roared at the top of his lungs. His voice is not alone in this stadium, and it blended with the excited howls of the other spectators.

The ground couldn’t handle their excitement, that it created minor tremors inside the arena. The technical personnel in charge of the venue were forced to change the concrete walls into carpeted ones to help control the sound reverberation.

But who would blame them when they are witnessing something that will rarely happen?

"Woah, the social media is bursting now! Tingfeng, did you check your social media account? Your wife is super trending now!" Wu Jin literally shoved his phone in the other alpha’s face.

Bai Tingfeng and Wu Jin became inevitably close at this point because of the latter’s persistent dropping of comments here and there. Most of it was praise for Shen Yuan, so whether Bai Tingfeng admitted it or not, he was obviously all ears.

"It couldn’t be helped. Shen Yuan just proved to everyone in the world that he is an S-Class awakener, and minutes later, he is facing off with one of the strongest mage-type awakeners in the world," Bai Tingfeng casually answered.

Yanyan, who was silently sitting beside him, crawled back to his lap and poked his arm.

"Papa, this is fake fighting, right? Grandpa Mao will not really hurt Daddy, right?" Yanyan’s dark, expressive eyes are shining with obvious concern and nervousness. He must have seen on the big screen the ongoing brawl between Shen Yuan and Chairman Mao inside the artificial forest.

Bai Tingfeng felt his heart melting at his son’s expression. It is his short-sightedness that he didn’t think about the possibility that the test would entail fighting and violence. What will happen later might be too much for his son, so he immediately thought of taking Yanyan away from the loud arena.

But before he could utter a word, Shen Yuan’s face flashed in his face, and the words that the omega once spoke when they were discussing whether they should bring Yanyan with them replayed in his head.

"It was worrying that it may overwhelm Yanyan once he is in such a crowded place, but from what I observed from him, he is a brave little boy. He’s got a mental fortitude of steel and guts that is made up of titanium, so why not foster that? Let’s expose him to everything that will make him a strong person!"

Bai Tingfeng breathed deeply and held the boy’s hand. "Real or not, you don’t have to worry about your dad. He’s powerful in his own way."

"Umm!" Yanyan nodded his head. This time, the clouds in his eyes have entirely vanished, and he is full of confidence in his Daddy.

"It was smart of you to boost your son’s trust. It seems like you are aware—" Wu Jin tried to interject in the warm interaction of the father and son. However, he was abruptly cut short by Bai Tingfeng.

"Yes, I am aware of Chairman Mao’s attitude in fights. No need to emphasize that."

Wu Jin playfully snickered. "Really smart."

"What an overprotective Papa," the alpha from the Wu Family thought as he resumed watching the situation of the two S-Class awakeners in the field– especially the gray-haired alpha, who was effortlessly dodging the attacks of the omega.

Chairman Mao Huanlong isn’t someone who would pull his punches in fights, especially when he is initiating a newbie.

Suddenly, Wu Jin rubbed his chin, his eyes thoughtful. Is it just him, or is Chairman Mao giving too much thought to Shen Yuan?

He personally set up the tests, oversaw it, and now, he is actively playing in it.

It is unlike for the chairman to go to such lengths, even for a family friend.

Is there something else besides hiring him to be part of the Hunter Association?

~~

Shen Yuan has wholly cut off the world outside the forest. His cunning blue eyes never left the shadows of the one and only Mao Huanlong. He even failed to notice that the darkening sky became clouded, indicating that rain may pour any time soon.

His focus was to corner his target, nothing else.

Each of his movements is oriented to capture the senior alpha.

They are swift, heavy, and targeted solely at the Hunter Association’s chairman.

However, Chairman Mao proved that he was as nimble as an eighteen-year-old despite his age. Shen Yuan couldn’t land any of his attacks!

"I thought that clearly mentioned earlier that you must capture me and the robots. Not solely me," Mao Huanlong spoke without breaking his smile. A small pair of tornadoes supported his feet as he hovered and dodged the angry blueish-white fireballs of the omega.

Seeing the ever-annoying smile, the celestial fox spirit felt ticked, "Ah? You don’t have to worry about them. I am a gifted multitasker."

As if on cue, Shen Yuan passed by a running robot, and he instantly used his long claws to slash the machine’s knee, incapacitating it.

Seeing such skillful maneuver, the crowd roared with awe. Their cheers blended with the strong breeze that was blowing on the arena from time to time.

Chairman Mao smiled with satisfaction. "You understood the assignment, huh? That’s good!"

So far, what he had seen the omega use is his Heavenly Foxfire, which may or may not be programmed to burn him alive, the illusion spell that lets the nine-tails undetected to the public’s eyes, his ability to reinforced his physical abilities via magic and his razor-sharp claws.

It was merely a fraction of what Shen Yuan listed as his powers, but all of them were proven to be mighty powers for an S-Class awakener.

Shen Yuan, on the other hand, did not like a bit about the entire situation. He intended to wreak havoc to flex his majesty as the nine-tailed celestial fox spirit, but he was ultimately handcuffed to pseudo-capture chunks of moving metals.

"Of course, I might be hot-headed, but I am someone who has a clear mind. I will humor you for a while and show you how skilled I am in capturing humans like you!" Shen Yuan said and used his prehensile tails to send the group of robots trying to attack him flying.

"Watch them closely because I will be burning the back of your knees later on," then, in one swift move, the tiny balls of heavenly foxfires shot towards the poor robots, engulfing them completely, and they all landed on the ground, not moving.

Those were his twentieth "capture".

See? It was easy peasy to shut down those robots, and they were not much of a problem with his ever-powerful Heavenly Foxfire. Just burn their circuit from the inside and leave the husk.

"Nothing is more effective than extreme pain in making men stop and capture them," Shen Yuan evilly smirked at Chairman Mao.

"Well, I couldn’t disagree with such a notion, and I have a fair share of experience to present as an example. But don’t you think you should be overusing such methods? There are people who treat physical pain as their pet dog or cat. They are unstoppable. You should know that."

Chairman Mao raised his right hand to the sky. His eyes were profound as he looked directly at Shen Yuan. "You can’t be too trusting in this treacherous world or you’ll die."

The wind suddenly changed inside the arena.

Not in a figurative sense, but quite literally.

The breeze howled like an agitated bear, and Shen Yuan instantly knew something weird was going on. He looked up and saw that the sky was covered with clouds that looked like cotton balls that were drenched in blood.

"This is a storm?! Nothing was declared in the weather forecast that there will be rain once the night approaches!" The celestial fox spirit lamented in his heart.

Despite the nudging questions in his head, Shen Yuan didn’t say anything. He was focused on observing his surroundings since the dreading feeling kept prickling on his skin.

But this effort was deemed a beat late when they suddenly heard the thunders in the sky.

"Shit!" Shen Yuan buffed, reinforced his legs, and made a huge leap. His fox ears are completely perked up, and his fluffy, white nine tails sway due to the sudden air pressure.

Bang! Boom!

Forks of lightning rain on Shen Yuan. No need to investigate who is the culprit behind it. It was the senior alpha male in the field.

He should have known that this was the work of someone who could use the powers of the Azure Dragon! His power isn’t just those flimsy lightning bolts in his body and tornado. Mao Huanlong could control the fucking weather!

The celestial fox spirit has used his speed and flexibility to outrun them. However, he horribly failed, given that he couldn’t outrun light.

Bang! Boom!

"Bloody hell!" The celestial fox spirit cursed out loud when he felt the strong voltage of lightning cursing on his body. What bad timing! He hasn’t consolidated his body yet, so his immunity against lightning was not strong!

Shen Yuan was forcibly brought down on his knees.

"Now, there you have it. Chairman Mao is on the roll," Wu Jin uttered, eyes smiling
