Chapter 49: Episode 6.1 Rumors and Good Luck Kiss

After forcefully throwing Zhou Kai to the infirmary, the beta male in black-rimmed glasses, whom Zhou Kai called Poltergeist, headed to the arena’s control room. After taking a sharp turn, he suddenly stopped and glared at the far corner of the corridor where a lone man in camouflage pants and a white crew-neck shirt stood.

"Yo, guess we will be working soon, Xia Jinhai-kun!" Tall, tan, and handsome in his ultra-short army cut, Wu Jin waved his pointer and middle finger, flashing a peace sign.

The alpha surely doesn’t act like a celebrated military official. He is an army man famous for his mirth and potent virility— making him one of the most sought-after alphas in Country C.

"Damn, another annoying alpha," Xia Jinhai internally frowned while maintaining an expression that was as still as a calm lake.

"Admiral Wu, it seems like you came here too early for the meeting of the newly established team," the beta spoke in a very formal tone, devoid of any familiarity.

But it seemed to be nothing for the bulking alpha admiral, and Wu Jin still flashed a smile and laughed lowly, "Oh, come on. Don’t be so cold to me. Let’s be close friends. We are S-Class awakeners working for the government, after all."

"So thick-faced!" Xia Jinhai blurted out with his face still looking like a blank sheet of paper.

"Admiral Wu’s work in the navy and my job in Hunter Association’s Intelligence Department have no relationship whatsoever. Thus, it is best if we keep a formal and cooperative relationship. No more, no less," Xia Jinhai strictly responded.

"But we will be teammates now, right? To combat the Cardinals?"

The beta became silent. Although he isn’t fond of the presence of the alpha before him, Xia Jinhai really can’t deny the truth. His thick glasses reflected the light, disabling anyone to see through his emotion reflected from his eyes.

"If you are fishing for information about the members of the newly established Special Anti-terrorism Team out of me, then you have picked the wrong guy. You will never hear any information deemed confidential by the Hunter Association from my lips. You better wait for the time you will be called."

"Of course, the same goes for me since only Master Mao knows the best people for the job, and he is the one in charge of choosing them, just like in our case," Xia Jinhai quickly added.

"Well, I know that much," The physiologically domineering but cheery navy general smilingly rested his back on the wall and stared at Xia Jinhai hard. As seconds passed by, his arching lips reverted to the neutral position. His face was now serious as he said his intention.

"I was just here to confirm something that the little goby fishes from the East Coast have whispered to me. They said that Shen Yuan had made it to Chairman Mao’s roster for the new team. Is that the truth? I want to hear what the head of the Hunter Association thinks about that."

Something flashed in the blank face of Xia Jinhai, but it only lasted for a quarter of a second that the navy admiral failed to notice it. Despite what he was silently thinking about, the intelligent and cunning beta from Hunter Association maintained his silence.

Not a sound was heard for almost a minute. Wu Jin breathed a surrendering sigh.

"Fine. Forget that I asked," Wu Jin threw his arms in the air and murmured. "The gossip is true, huh? Xia "the Poltergiest" Jinhai is morally upright and as stubborn as a bull."

Of course, this wasn’t left unheard by Xia Jinhai, whose hearing senses are improved for being an S-Class. He gnashed his teeth and silently wished that he could at least give a single punch to the alpha’s solar plexus. Unfortunately, doing that means he will be more involved with the man in the future.

He isn’t fond of the idea of getting close to such an eccentric alpha.

"Don’t worry, Admiral Wu, I am forgetting all the words you spoke at this very moment," Only this time did Xia Jinhai smile genuinely.

"This man... What did I do to you that made you this cold towards me?" Wu Jin gawked at the beta in disbelief.

"Well, we are never close," Xia Jinhai started to walk towards his destination. However, his stride abruptly came to a stop. He cast a profound glance directly at the face of Admiral Wu Jin.

"Are you also one of those short-sighted idiots who underestimates Shen Yuan?" the beta in glasses sharply asked. One wouldn’t know if he was grinning or smirking, but his tone sounded a playful challenge to the alpha.

To his surprise, Wu Jin let out a loud, booming laugh.

He was right. The youngest admiral from the prestigious Wu Family has a few screws loose in the head. Will they be okay if their Special Team is fully operational? They already have a clever but vengeful spirit on the list, and now... there is an unstable military man in their midst...

It’s quite worrying.

"You think I have the guts? You might be clueless since you don’t know me personally. But I am also from the prestigious Qilin Academy. I have seen firsthand how Shen Yuan established his notoriety when he was still in the school of the elite and gifted students," Wu Jin said as if that explains his answer to Xia Jinhai. "If there’s anything, I am excited to work with "the" Shen Yuan."

And, in fact, it did. Xia Jinhai relaxed his facial expression after hearing Wu Jin. "Good for you, then you must be our senior. That is more reason for me to stay formal with you. Now, if you excuse me, Admiral Wu. I need to prepare for the next test."

Wu Jin nodded his head. Their talk is getting too invasive to the privacy of other people. That isn’t too honorable for high-ranking people like them.

"Oh, yes. That is the moment of truth, right? We will finally see if he is a full-fledged S-Class awakener. I am looking forward to what surprise Chairman Mao pulled this time."

Wu Jin didn’t wait for Xia Jinhai to walk away. He briskly walked back to the VIP area without looking back. Unbeknownst to him, Xia Jinhai was silently watching his retreating.

He didn’t expect that someone from the four great families of Country C would be quick to say that he didn’t have the guts to offend Shen Yuan. Well, remembering how Shen Yuan dominated their school when they were still students clearly shows how dangerous Shen Yuan could be.

Like what they say, one must never be careless around beautiful flowers because they might hide some sharp or even poisonous thorns.

Back to the omega that became the topic of the two, Shen Yuan spent the time resting with his son and, well, husband on paper. Bai TIngfeng found out about the bad guy thanks to their little chatterbox. He didn’t know yet that it was Zhou Kai because he said that he would explain later, to which the alpha agreed with an inexplicable expression on his face. The alpha told him to recover his body and not mind anything unrelated to the Awakener Test.

And he did.

Fortunately, somebody took away his irritation, so he managed to shake off the frustration that he had for the big butt alpha due to what happened earlier.

Thus, he focused on his recovery with a lighter mind.

For the first time, he tried drinking the healing potion left for him, which, according to Bai Tingfeng, has restorative properties that could ease his physical fatigue.

It was pretty effective, he must say. The soreness on his shoulders and the tingling sensation on his legs disappeared into the thin air. Relying solely on physical power was a little too much for his body as it was still not perfectly stabilized.

Thankfully, the second test requires him to use his powers. He would be like a fish swimming in the vast ocean.

Twenty minutes break was too short for a rest. At the time when the sun was about to set, Shen Yuan was already kissing Yanyan goodbye on his cheeks.

"Good luck, Daddy," Yanyan sweetly said after softly kissing Shen Yuan’s cheeks. Since his Daddy habitually kisses his plump cheeks, Yanyan starts to pick up that habit and applies it to his parents.

Well, as doting parents, Shen Yuan and Bai Tingfeng were more than happy to encourage such behavior.

After Yanyan, it was the serious and annoyingly "weak" Bai Tingfeng’s turn.

"Good luck out there, Shen Yuan," Bai Tingfeng said. His voice is like the sound of a steadily flowing stream. It was peaceful and comforting on the surface, but a strong undercurrent was underneath that.

Shen Yuan and Bai Tingfeng stared at each other for a while. Nothing romantic because Shen Yuan was wearing a stinky face.

"Yes, the heavens love me, so I will never run out of luck," he says arrogantly.

Bai Tingfeng didn’t respond, but his eyes contained laughter.

"Papa, don’t you want to seal your good luck to Daddy with a kiss?" Yanyan innocently inquired.

In an instant, the two unsuspecting parents were blanketed with awkward silence.

Bai Tingfeng stood there as stiff as a stone.

Meanwhile, Shen Yuan’s facial muscles did somersaults far too many times for him to count. He felt his heart pounding like drums and his face a little warm. Children’s innocence is the most dangerous thing in this world!
