Chapter 305: Episode 28.6 Children Grow Fast

It might sound over the top for five-year-olds to do admissions exams before enrolling in a kindergarten program, but it is more than justified if it is a high-caliber school like Qilin Academy.

The Qilin Academy accepts anyone regardless of one’s economic status and background, yes, but being the nation’s top school, they only accept the best of the best.

The admission tests aim to take in the students who have the best education foundation.

For Kindergarteners, future students are tested to see if they are capable of reading and understanding easy words, have basic arithmetic skills, solid self-care skills and a whole lot more.

The process lasts for four hours, including breaks.

It was fairly long as the test entails various activities for the kids. Stressful? Probably.

However, one can say that this is a little sneak peek for our future kindergarteners as to what it’s like to be in school— an appetizer before the main course.

And the taste of reality starts right the moment the line of kids starts entering the auditorium.

"Mommy, I don’t want to do this alone. Can you stay, please?" A child from the front started whining to his mother, making the latter distressed.

The crowd, the long line and the world-shaking news that their parents couldn’t stay with them during the test inevitably overwhelmed the kids.

Some started making a fuss. The adorable applicants started clinging to their parents’ clothes as if their lives depended on it.

It feels a little bit early for such scene to unfold as this is commonly happening at the kid’s first day of school. However, no one can blame the kids as this is only a natural reaction.

The first taste of independence is always scary.

Because of their seat number, Yanyan and Xiaolun are lining up in the front. The boys are watching the kid’s tantrum—almost literally— in the front-row seat.

The two boys’ parents are watching their reactions, checking if the fuss will affect them. Impressively, both boys seemed to keep their composure. Yanyan remained well-behaved, faithfully staying on the line and silently observing the bustling crowd.

Shen Yuan and Bai Tingfeng can rest easy seeing Yanyan like this because it only means that this whole lot of strangers didn’t trigger his fear.

Meanwhile, his friend, Xiaolun is in a much better state. His parents don’t need to worry about a thing because as they put it, Xiaolun inherited the nerves of steel of the Wu family. Shen Yuan doesn’t know how that helped the military careers of the Wu family members, but good for them.

The world is in great need of real, solid people.

And it is quite reassuring that their Yanyan is friends with one.

After a few kiddie tears and pacification from the parents, the line finally moved, and it was their turn to scan the digital stub. It was in Bai Tingfeng’s phone, so it was his business to ensure that Yanyan entered the auditorium smoothly.

"Keep calm and don’t be afraid once you go inside, okay? Remember, this is just a test. All you’re going to do is sit, listen to instructions and answer the test questions given to you. Do not feel overwhelmed," Bai Tingfeng spat as a final reminder.

But seriously, though, between Yanyan and him, he sounds to be the one who needs to chill.

Guess his calmness has a short expiration date now that they are in front of the auditorium’s door.

"Okay, Papa. Don’t worry. I got it." Yanyan nodded with determination.

Meanwhile, the nonchalant parent, Shen Yuan, helped Yanyan wear his tiny backpack. "Focus on your test and do your best! Oh, what snack do you have in mind?"

Excited, Yanyan almost jumped, "Doughnuts! I want doughnuts!"

"Doughnuts it is, then." Shen Yuan breezily said like a really cool parent. This attitude earned an amazed look from Song Yongnian, Xiaolun’s omega dad.

The parents silently watched their children’s backs as they walked into the auditorium, following the teacher in charge. They are silent and deep in their hearts; they feel some weight weighing on them.

"Ahh... What is this bittersweet feeling?" Song Yongnian uttered, slightly melancholic. "I can’t believe that I was cuddling that boy yesterday, and now, I am sending him to his first admission exam. What they said was true; children grow fast."

"Your Xiaolun is still in a cuddly age. No way you’re missing that already." Shen Yuan commented offhandedly. Now that they have already sent their children in, the three of them are big masses of flesh that are causing congestion.

That is why, before they caused a delay, he consciously pulled the two emotional parents to the side while sporting a polite smile to the other parents. It feels like a novelty that none of them are expressing overwhelming awe at the presence of two famous S-class awakeners.

Probably, they are as nervous as they are children to even make a big deal out of the two of them.

Stopping at a nearby bench, Song Yongnian responded to Shen Yuan. "I’m just feeling emotional. How about you? Didn’t you feel some tugging in your heart when Yanyan walked away? Don’t tell me you’re too cool to feel touched."

"Of course not. I am feeling that bittersweet feeling too." Shen Yuan quickly said. "It’s just that I’m sticking to my role as the cool dad. I’m leaving the emotional parts to our dramatic papa."

He meaningfully glanced at Bai Tingfeng and winked. Bai Tingfeng only wore a small smile and shook his head, as if saying he couldn’t argue with Shen Yuan.

Song Yongnian laughed at the sight of the flirting couple. "So, that’s why! How interesting, your roles are reversed! Commonly, it’s the omega who overreacts in the relationship, while it is the alpha’s business to stay composed and collected."

"Well." Shen Yuan paused to make flirty eyes towards his husband. "Our roles aren’t completely reversed. I am still in charge of overreacting during regular days, and he plays the role of calm pacifier in our family."

Shen Yuan inhaled sharply, prompting Bai Tingfeng to anticipate his next words. "However, there are times when Bai Tingfeng simply can’t function properly, just like today! And that’s where I come in. I’m giving him THE hand."

Shen Yuan made a suspicious hand gesture after his meaningful emphasis on the word "the."

"Ehem!" Bai Tingfeng suddenly failed to control his own body and choked on his saliva.

Meanwhile, Song Yongnian looked pleasantly scandalized at Shen Yuan’s action. He’s been married for years, so he’s no longer a blushing virgin. However, that doesn’t stop him from gasping and instinctively covering his mouth. "Oh my..."

Feeling slightly shy, Bai Tingfeng tried to correct, "What my husband meant to say was a hand, like a helping hand! He didn’t mean anything vul—"

However, Bai Tingfeng’s save was proven to be futile as Song Yongnian made a fast Uno-reverse card that made him speechless.

"Me too!" Song Yongnian cheekily added. "I’m putting my healing hand to work whenever Wu Chen comes home tired from military duties. Believe me, even if he’s tired, he becomes capable of firing a 21-gun salute at the stroke of my hand."

"Huh?! Bwahahaha!" The sly celestial fox spirit acted shocked momentarily before chortling while holding his stomach. He didn’t expect this princely master from a well-to-do family would ride with his dirty humor. And for this, Song Yongnian passed the vibe check.

"Sis!" Shen Yuan was so amused he found himself wanting to hug his fellow omega. However, before he can even get his paws on Song Yongnian, Bai Tingfeng pulls him back by the shirt like a hapless kitten carried by the scruff.

"Okay! Let’s keep it PG-13. We are on a school campus," Bai Tingfeng reminded.

That sounded like it came out of righteousness, but in reality, it was a calculative move of possessiveness.

There is no way other people can hug Shen Yuan— not on his watch, even if the other person is of the same secondary sex.

"Jealous?" Shen Yuan beamed a Cheshire cat smile, looking both coquettish and gorgeous at the same time.

Bai Tingfeng’s jaws tightened. Should he discipline him with a kiss?

The chemistry between the two is simmering fast, it becomes impossible for other people to ignore the brewing romantic atmosphere.

"Oh, is this the part where I must walk away?" Song Yongnian asked, breaking the interlocking gaze between the S-class couple.

Song Yongnian is a married omega with a fair share of romance in his life, so he’s desensitized to seeing others flirting to some extent. However, for the couple before him, he couldn’t help but feel excited for the two.

How amazing it is to see a couple with huge differences who are equally crazy in love with each other.

Song Yongnian feels like a teenager rooting for his favorite love team.

"No way! You must join us! My husband and I are planning to check the school cafeteria out. Would you like to join us?"

Before Song Yongnian answered, he conscientiously looked at Bai Tingfeng first. He can totally understand if the alpha wants to spend time by themselves.

"Today is a perfect chance for parents to meet up and talk about kids. A date can wait," Bai Tingfeng said, causing Song Yongnian to laugh delightedly.

"You guys are so in love. It’s a miracle that Shen Yuan isn’t pregnant yet."

"Ehek!" This time, it was Shen Yuan’s turn to choke on his saliva. Why does it seem like the word pregnant is haunting him?!
