Chapter 267: Episode 24.8 Subway Dungeon

The locations of the dungeons in Shen Yuan’s care are pretty tricky. One is in a now-abandoned shopping district east of City B, and the other is in a dilapidated subway. These two are responsibilities of two mid-tier guilds and are pretty low-level.

If the worst happened, it could cause extensive losses—and even deaths—as in the urban area.

Meanwhile, the last dungeon that belongs to the Baihu Guild is on the suburban edge of the city. In case of a dungeon break, the damages could be minimal. But too bad, the distance was a double-edged sword. Shen Yuan had no choice but to visit it after he was done with the two other dungeons.

Now, for his first stop, he went to the closed subway where an E-Rank dungeon is located.

"The air is bitingly cold," Shen Yuan commented when he stepped into the stairs leading down the dungeon. He quickly brought out his nine-tails—still shrouded with illusion— and conjured bluish-white flames that covered him and Yanyan. It serves as a cloak that regulates the temperature around them, and it blocks the thick mana that leaks from the dungeon.

Gu Jinpeng came running towards him with two huge shopping bags shortly after he said that.

"Master Shen," Gu Jinpeng called his boss and briefed him on the situation. "I successfully got your replacement for your crystal ball and your hanfu. It’s already repaired and ready to wear."

"Perfect, just what I needed," Shen Yuan commented.

"Madam Zhen added a little something as an apology. She said she felt bad that the nine-tailed hanfu she created failed you during a critical time." Gu Jinpeng added as he followed down the platform.

"What is it?" Shen Yuan curiously asked. But his assistant only shook his head, and Shen Yuan let it go without much thought.

Well, what he liked about this former assassin was his sense of privacy. Gu Jinpeng is not the type who pries and only does as he is told.

The two adults and one child marched down the subway platform, and this group was too eye-catching for anyone to miss. Don’t mention the stunning visuals of the daddy and son duo. The presence of the five-year-old is enough to cause some buzz.

Both sides of the subway are currently filled with people whom Shen Yuan believed to be hunters of the guild. He exchanged a few friendly smiles and hand waves with some of them— celebrity things.

Gu Jinpeng then guided his boss to the tent, where the agents of the Dungeon Management Department were busy monitoring the mana level of the dungeon using various cutting-edge equipment.

"Leader Shen!" Shen Yuan almost had a heart attack when Li An’s head popped out of the draping plastic curtain that covered the entrance.

"Li An! I almost grilled you alive just now," Shen Yuan told his subordinate while massaging his chest. His son was giggling on the side. Probably, he finds this quirky alpha subordinate of his amusing.

"You have two minutes to tell me how things are here. If you exceeded, I will give you a grandma perm in just one wave of my hand."

Li An pouted his lips but proceeded to do what Shen Yuan instructed. "The dungeon is not showing any signs of stabilizing; the mana concentration is continuously rising. Thankfully, it is at a relatively slow pace."

"Did you find any reason why this is happening?"

"Nothing as of the moment. The agents from Dungeon Management can’t find anything outside, so the guild master of Twilight Guild decides to dive into the dungeon with his team and some agents from Dungeon Management. They will kill as many monsters as possible in order to bring down the mana level while the agents will investigate inside."

"That is a smart plan," Shen Yuan nodded. His stance suggests that he wants to meet them. "Where are they?"

"Preparing for the dungeon dive," Lian said promptly. "I will lead you the way."

It didn’t take them long since the group was already marching towards the dungeon’s entrance.

"Wow!" Yanyan gasped in wonder as it was the first time he saw the dungeon’s entrance for the first time. He’s gaping wide as he looks at the black swirling matter in the middle of the old, rusty train track.

Shen Yuan gave the entrance a hard stare. He didn’t show it on his face, but his guard was up. He could feel it. The mana around the entrance swirls rapidly, and this is the first time he has felt the mana react this way.

"So this is what a dungeon looks like when it’s about to break," Shen Yuan didn’t realize those words slipped out of his tongue.

"That sounded a bit ominous, Master Shen," Shen Yuan heard someone speak. Due to his occupied attention, he failed to notice that the guild master of Twilight Guild.

Well, he feels a bit guilty. He did say something unlucky. Thus, he humbly apologized.

The guild master of the Twilight Guild actually didn’t take the statement to heart, so he easily accepted the apology. With a broad smile that reaches the eyes, he said, "It’s okay! Instead of accepting your sorry, I should be the one who should be thankful."

The guild master’s eyes stared closely at the fire covering Shen Yuan and his son. Actually, not only the hunters behind him are watching the parent and son with interest and awe.

Who else besides the confidently powerful Shen Yuan can bring a child near a volatile dungeon? He’s not a typical omega, which makes him so attractive. For most people, Shen Yuan is an omega worth crushing on.

"Having a powerful S-class awakener as our backup is the greatest assurance we could have as a mid-tier guild. Because of your presence, Master Shen, we are optimistic that we can stabilize the dungeon."

Shen Yuan just smiled at the flattery. On the sidelines, Yanyan is watching his Daddy and the guild master closely. Everyone respects his Daddy. He’s happy to see that. However, why does it feel like some uncles compliment his Daddy so much?

And their smiles. It’s too wide as if they are emojis in real life.

"Daddy, can I call Papa?" Yanyan’s sweet and innocent voice.

Everyone on the other side looked like cold water was thrown on their face. Their smile became more restrained. Right! Shen Yuan is off-limits!

"Oh, okay. We will call your father later, but for now, let’s send off these elder brothers," Shen Yuan told Yanyan.

The innocent five-year-old blinked his bright eyes at the adults before him, not knowing that he unintentionally put up a fence around his Daddy and protected his Papa’s happiness.

"Bye, big brothers. Be safe!"

Only then did they remember that they were supposed to enter the dungeons. They awkwardly excused themselves and marched into the dungeon entrance.

"Are they going to be fine?" Shen Yuan asked as he watched the disappearing backs.

"The dungeon monsters inside are mainly low-level goblins. I believe they can manage," Li An told his leader. On the other hand, Gu Jinpeng remained silent. However, in his mind, he’s secretly complimenting his boss’ charm.

A top model’s charisma is really something.

Shen Yuan didn’t pay much attention to the fawning looks he’s been receiving. It sounds really arrogant, but he’s accustomed to it.

Instead, he focused his energy on rallying the agents who are acting as backup for today’s operation. Their main job was to ensure that no one would dare come close to the dungeon during the entire process, and if the guild had to retreat, they were expected to provide cover and medical support. Therefore, it’s a job that is a mix of everything.

"As you heard, I’ll be monitoring three dungeons here in B City, so expect that I will not be around here all day, waiting and watching after the dungeon. Li An and Gu Jinpeng will serve as my deputy, and they are the persons you would want to talk to if you wanted to report something to me. I want to hear an hourly report about this dungeon, so I expect to keep in touch with all of you until we stabilize it." Shen Yuan told everyone.

"This will not be our last meeting for today. If you need my presence, tell my deputies. And no matter what happens, I will arrive in under five minutes."

When he said those words, almost all agents felt a weight lifted off their shoulders when they heard Shen Yuan’s assurance. Everyone wants to return home safely, and knowing that an S-class awakener has their back is like having an extra life.

Shen Yuan lingered around for three more hours, waiting for any results from the investigation team. One could say that his wait was fruitful as before he took a step to go to the next dungeon, one agent from the group that entered the dungeon with the Twilight Guild came back with some news.

"Master Shen! We found something! We saw some kind of suspicious contraption buried inside the dungeon! We need the headquarters to send us some specialists in handling hyper-reactive mana stones."
