Chapter 185: Episode 17.3 Petty Fox, Poor Dragon

Thinking that the conversation was over, Shen Yuan made a conscious decision to stand up and fix himself before walking out. However, before he could even snap his fingers to dispel the spell he cast on his son who’s presently deeply immersed in cartoons, Chairman Mao said something that made him pause.

"I really admire your strong-headedness. However, it would be great if you learned to maintain a good image."

"Why? Because the Hunter Association’s reputation depends on me? I’m just a normal employee who gets his paycheck twice every month."

Chairman Mao’s facial muscles twitched involuntarily. With all the perks and sky-high salary he receives, this omega dares call himself a normal employee?!

It seems awakened ability and pride are not the only S-Class traits that Shen Yuan possesses.

This omega also bears shamelessness on the S-level.

Chairman Mao took a deep breath to rewire his mind that Shen Yuan messed up.

He then pointed at Yanyan in the distance.

"Your reputation is not yours alone, Yuan. You wouldn’t want your son to be teased for having an unfilial parent, right? Especially now that he will be attending kindergarten in the coming school year."

Hearing that Yanyan would be bullied, Shen Yuan’s eyes instantly turned daggers. The chairman made a valid point and said it with good intentions. He knew all that.

However, just the thought that Yanyan would suffer emotional pain is enough for him to lose his cool.

"Anyone who dares to harm my son will receive the harshest punishment that even hell wouldn’t dare impose. Though I can’t help them because they are children, that doesn’t make them lucky. I could be an incredibly patient man if I wanted to."

"A lifetime of waiting is not a big deal for me."

"H-Hey!" Chairman Mao couldn’t help but exclaim as prickly goosebumps generously crept into his entire body.

He was just dropping a small lesson for Shen Yuan as a senior. There’s no need to react so strongly!

"Just kidding!" Shen Yuan broke the frost in the air with an overly exaggerated bright smile.

Anyone who has seen would think that this person is different from the one who just dropped a frightening threat seconds ago.

"I will not meddle in a child’s fight. My pride is too great to quarrel with a child. Rather, I will teach my son how to handle bullies the "right" way."

’The right way, you say. I wonder what kind of crime your "right way" is?’ Chairman Mao kept this thought to himself.

"And besides, I’m wondering if it is all right for Yanyan to go to school. With the looming threat of the Cardinals, I think it’s better for his safety if we opt for homeschooling," Shen Yuan said one of the concerns hanging in his mind these days.

He may be a celestial fox spirit and doesn’t need to pick up compulsory education by the humans, but at least he knows that for a memorable childhood, it is a rite of passage for a five-year-old to experience kindergarten.

There, the child’s aptitude for learning will be ignited while of course, having a lot of fun in the presence of their peers in the same age bracket.

Shen Yuan would love to let Yanyan enjoy the joys of going to school— watch him experience things and build social connections in his age bracket.

However, is it safe enough to let Yanyan part with him? Once Yanyan is at school, he would be out of his and Bai Tingfeng’s protection.

And that is not ideal when he is at the point of his work where he is attracting the attention of enemies like a sore thumb.

Chairman Mao looked thoughtful after hearing Shen Yuan’s statement.

"Well, the decision is up to you and Bai Tingfeng. Yanyan is your son, so you do what you think is best for your son."

"Wow, what a very helpful insight," Shen Yuan replied with a salty face. Chairman Mao surely tried to look like he was deep in his thoughts to tease him.

Chairman Mao smirked, "On a more serious note. If you decide to enroll Yanyan in a regular kindergarten, your alma mater is the best choice. Their security and education are among the best in the country. I can also prepare ahead of time to guarantee Yanyan’s safety."

Shen Yuan crossed his arms and studied the chairman’s expression. Is it just him or Mao Huanlong is indeed bragging about the damned school?

Even if it was said that Qilin Academy is the original’s alma mater, it sounded so foreign to him. No lingering feeling was tugged when he heard it, so it means the original doesn’t have any lingering feeling in that school.

What makes it so special?

He couldn’t think of a reason why Chairman Mao held it with such pride.

"Whatever. I will remember that. I will discuss with Bai Tingfeng about this matter one of these days. I will inform you if my husband and I will take the help you graciously offered."

Chairman Mao hummed and leaned down on his table. He looked at the standing omega like he was looking through a microscope. "Is it just me or has the way you call Bai Tingfeng changed?"

"Huh?" Shen Yuan acted obliviously but if one looked closely, there was a ghost of a smile lurking on his lips. "What do you mean?"

With a wacky face, Chairman Mao mimicked Shen Yuan’s tone. "What do you mean?"

"You sounded like you’re in bed with him that’s what! Bai Tingfeng is not here, Yuan. There’s no need to pronounce that boy’s name like you’re in heat."

"Yuck!" Shen Yuan giggled. "Let’s just say I felt more assured with him. I found peace of mind with him."

"Oh? What has changed?" Chairman Mao asked out of curiosity. However, he was quick to retract it when he saw the mysterious smile on Shen Yuan’s lips. "Never mind that. Don’t answer. I could more or less guess what that smile meant."

’Of course, you have decades of experience as a married man,’ Shen Yuan internally rolled his eyes.

"Sharing secrets with your partner feels liberating, hmm?"

Shen Yuan smiled meaningfully. "I don’t know. Why don’t you let us leave now so I could test what you just said?"

"Tsk," Mao Huanlong clicked his tongue. How many times did this omega ask to excuse himself? Seriously, this was the first time he’d seen someone shameless towards their boss.

"Fine! Go!" Chairman Mao waved his hand in front of Shen Yuan’s face, shooing the omega away. "I’m giving you another week of rest so; you can mess around with your husband some more."

The respected chairman then lowered his voice.

"But mind you. Once you come back you will be swamped by work."

"Shen Yuan didn’t save his face and laughed. "Thank you, Boss."

Chairman Mao rolled his eyes. Coincidentally, his sight landed on a low stack of folders on the table where his paperwork was kept. This made him recall something related to Shen Yuan.

Shen Yuan noticed how Chairman Mao’s expression turned serious, meaning his next words were of significant importance.

"I forwarded the dagger that was used on you to an overseas laboratory. The methods we have in the country couldn’t identify what was in that weapon," Chairman Mao’s voice turned low. "But as someone who bears the Azure Eyes, all I could say is that I had a really bad feeling when I saw it, Yuan. Very bad."

Shen Yuan’s eyes flashed when he remembered the only time his beastly instinct failed him. It was quite painful for his ego to recall it so he couldn’t control his jaw not to clench.

"Well, if that dagger is just a normal piece of processed metal, then it means that my S-Class rank is just for show."

"You might want to start retracing your memory and see who is the most suspicious one during that time in the dungeon because hidden threats that have a strong grasp on your weakness are the deadliest ones."

"Don’t worry, Chairman Mao. The next time will not be easy for them. I could assure you that."

The forgotten boil in the celestial fox spirit’s blood started to bubble once again at the thought of that sneaky knife that dealt him a lasting wound. "Anyway, I hope that the result will come in earlier. My hatchets are waiting to sink in their flesh."

"If it did come earlier, would you return to work without completing the one-week leave I’ve given you?"

Shen Yuan made no noise and shrugged his shoulders. A smug smile is painted on his thin rosy lips.

Chairman Mao doesn’t need to ask twice. That much is a response to his question.

The S-Class omega just stared meaningfully at the S-Class alpha until he turned his attention to his son.

With a snap of his fingers, Shen Yuan undid the illusion cast on Yanyan. "Come on, Yanyan. Daddy and Grandpa Mao are done. Time to go home."

A doting smile hid his frown as he murmured, "Petty fox.".

What he didn’t know was that Shen Yuan heard it clearly so when the two bid him goodbye in the elevator, Shen Yuan teased him for the last time.

As sly as he is, Shen Yuan timed it exactly before the elevator door separated them.

"Bye, poor dragon who tries to be cunning but always fails horribly."

"Shen! Yuan! You rascal!"

That day, the explosion that Shen Yuan’s members imagined didn’t happen. No news that blood was shed in the Chairman’s Office.

However, if there is something that made rounds in the rumor mill of the Hunter Association HQ, then it is the multiple accounts that Chairman Mao was screaming bloody murder at Shen Yuan.

This breeds multiple lores about the relationship of the two S-Class awakeners, and this is for the later story.
