Chapter 183: Episode 17.1 Chairman Mao is Angry?! No worries! The Little Angel is to the Rescue!

Shen Yuan’s team huddles in silence in a conference room at the Hunter Association’s Headquarters. After their leader was forced to take sick leave, it was the first time they were gathered here in a while. They are dispersed to monitor their other targets and watch out for movements coming from the Cardinals.

Fortunately, the other side seemed to be lying low too so nothing big happened.

However, that doesn’t matter much now as they have different concerns now. They are in a predicament where the entire Hunter Association’s Headquarters could crumble anytime.

Wen Huian is pacing back and forth like a hen who doesn’t know whether it should lay eggs or shoot shit.

"Do you think it’s okay to stay here? Shouldn’t we follow to the Chairman’s office?" Her concern is evident in her eyes.

Hu Feng uncomfortably shifted in his seat. Through his spectacles, he mirrors the same concern that bothers Wen Huian.

"I would be willing to go but... There’s no formal summons from Chairman Mao. We couldn’t just barge in. Nobody could go to the highest floor without the chairman’s word."

"Then waiting here is the best we could do?" Wen Huian bit her nails. This habit has long been eliminated due to strict discipline but now that she’s feeling intense pressure and nervousness, he’s subconsciously doing it again. "Assistant Gu, do you think Leader Shen will be fine? You saw what Chairman Mao looked like when he came. It’s like there are massive clusters of nimbus clouds that are ready to explode trailing him—"

Bang!

The female alpha’s voice drowned when the conference room’s door opened with a loud bang.

"Agent Li! Can’t you open the door without trying to destroy it?"

"Leader Shen! Where is Leader Shen?" Li An frantically approached Gu Jinpeng and held his fellow alpha on the other’s shoulders before shaking it like a maniac.

Annoyed, Gu Jinpeng clenched his jaw and shoved Li An away with all his strength. They may be working together to some extent, but it would be a stretch to say they are close.

’Well, the two other serious people are tolerable because they know respect for personal space. But this one...’ He shot an unflattering gaze at Li An.

For Gu Jinpeng, nothing good will happen if he acquainted himself with Li An because aside from having no sense of personal space, Li An is also painfully oblivious to how to read a room and he hates that.

’A pure muscle idiot of an alpha,’ he couldn’t help but crumple his mouth in disgust.

Alphas like Li An is one of the main reasons they have bad reputations!

Why is Li An here in the first place? He was supposed to be in the hospital, guarding Qin Mian and his injured friend.

’Someone’s getting an earful once Master Shen catches wind of this,’ the former assassin inwardly smirked. This time, it’s Li An’s turn to experience Shen Yuan’s ruthless tongue-lashing.

Gu Jinpeng no longer spared a glance at Li An. The thought that someone else will experience how he doubted his existence under Shen Yuan’s ruthless presence is quite a beautiful idea.

The former assassin focused on straightening his crumpled sleeves— an action less mundane than caring about Li An.

"He’s already on the top floor and probably in talks with Chairman Mao by now," Li replied in a business tone.

"What? The exaggerated Li An cried out loud. "What will we do if they fight each other? Did you inform him that Chairman Mao was in a foul mood?"

"I did. He knew about it the moment I informed him about the chairman’s summons Master Shen was pretty chill about it, so we don’t need to stress ourselves about this matter," Gu Jinpeng gave the others a profound and unwavering look. "When he said he could handle it, best believe it would pass according to Master Shen’s liking."

He said it with such confidence that the three agents calmed down.

Gu Jinpeng’s trust in Shen Yuan was as certain as saying the sky is blue. However, if there is something he’s unsure of, it is the reason behind Chairman Mao’s sudden summoning.

Imagine his shock when the strongest S-Class awakener hit his phone at five in the morning.

The cold, commanding voice that lacks the usual candidness and straightforward instruction: "Bring Shen Yuan to my office. Quick," sent shivers to every fiber of his being.

It was a stronger wake-up call than a piping hot cup of coffee that splashed on his face.

’But what really made the amicable Chairman Mao so angry? Is it what happened yesterday?’ Gu Jinpeng guessed. He really couldn’t say anything since he was not with Shen Yuan when they stepped out. He was busy babysitting the little young master at that time.

And even if he asked the bodyguards, it’s still impossible since the Bai Family’s trained guards are quite good at keeping their mouths shut.

Gu Jinpeng felt frustration. He was called an assistant, but he was clueless about his boss’s latest happenings! For the record, this is the first time he considered himself as incompetent, and it isn’t exactly a good feeling.

He was getting paid handsomely so he needed to step up his game!

Gu Jinpeng silently balled his fist with a new-found resolve.

"But are you sure Leader Shen has a way to de-escalate the situation?" Li An struck again, snapping every string of patience in the former assassin.

’Should I return to my old business just this once?’

This time, Gu Jinpeng’s forehead veins were too evident to miss. Wen Huian just sighed and shook her head at Li An.

This guy is a competent fighter, but he is also a royal pain in the ass. It won’t be a surprise if Leader Shen’s assistant gives him physical pain for this.

She subconsciously stepped back.

Hu Feng, on the other hand, fished his phone and pretended to be busy with God knows what.

"Hey, Gu Jinpeng. What precaution did Leader Shen—"

"That’s none of your business, damn it!" Gu Jinpeng roared and with extreme irritation, he dived right into his own shadow and got out of the conference room— away from the annoying Li An.

While Gu Jinpeng’s irritation was rising, Chairman Mao, the one who is said to be on the verge of causing a storm, was at a loss.

He was supposed to reprimand Shen Yuan, interrogating him as to why instead of staying at home and recuperating from his injury, he decided it was better to go out and beat the shit out of his father

He was supposed to teach this cheeky youngster a lesson.

He knew he should act as the senior he was by now. However, how could do that in this situation? How could he discipline Shen Yuan when he came here with his adorable guardian angel?

"Grandpa Mao, look! This is your favorite matcha doughnut! "Daddy and I specially brought it for you before coming here," A sweet and cute voice rang against his old ears.

It was a very innocent and pleasant sound, but Mao Huanlong couldn’t help but feel like it was a carnivorous vine creeping into his neck. A demon that’s about to be exorcised is how he feels right now.

"H-hahaha," Chairman Mao awkwardly laughed. "T-thank you, Yanyan. You are such a sweetheart!"

’And your Daddy is the most cunning omega I ever met!’ He swallowed this statement down his throat instead of saying it out loud. He had no choice. Yanyan looks at him with his bright eyes.

The five-year-old walked to his seat in tiny steps and politely raised his arms to show the damned green donut.

"For you Grandpa Mao," said the boy with a cheeky grin.

The helpless old man was utterly defeated. His anger quietly packed its things and left him to deal with this situation on his own.

"Thank you, Yanyan," Chairman Mao replied with an expression that resembled melting butter.

"Happy now?" Shen Yuan, seated on the other side of the wide table, asked with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile.

This jolted Chairman Mao back to his agenda and threw an accusing glare at Shen Yuan.

"You sly child!" Mao Huanlong looked like he was about to blow his entire hair off his head. "You knew you were summoned here to report to work. Why did you bring Yanyan with you?"

The omega doesn’t give any response. Instead, he focused on the display at the high-ranking alpha’s table. There his eyes landed on the shiny Newton’s cradle. His finger moved on it’s own and he pushed one of the balls, setting the device in motion.

Clack! Clack! Clack!

’If this old man hadn’t interrupted us, Bai Tingfeng and I would have been on a date. At the end of the day, our bodies would have collided like these balls here, creating plok plok plokn sound,’ Shen Yuan thought.

As things go, he and Chairman Mao are both unhappy in this situation.

Shen Yuan was in a daze for a moment until his eyes met Yanyan’s. The father and son’s eyes both flashed a dull light, a silent agreement happened in that split second.

"Grandpa Mao doesn’t like me here?" Yanyan pouted his lips. The boy looked so cute and fragile that nobody could have guessed that he was his Daddy’s little accomplice.

Before they bid goodbye to Bai Tingfeng (who has no choice but to scrap his grand plan and go to his workplace as usual), Shen Yuan already briefed Yanyan about what to do.

"Yanyan, Grandpa Mao would be in a terrible mood later and may give Daddy a hard time at work. Can you help Daddy to put him in a better mood?"

The father and son share a mutual feeling of love and a desire to help each other out. Yanyan nodded his head, bright-eyed, and without second thoughts.

"Of course not! I love that Yanyan visited this old man. I missed you!" Chairman Mao then mouthed to Shen Yuan, voicelessly expressing his discontent towards the omega. "You sly fox! You knew you did something wrong, and you are aware of the reprimand you’re getting for it! How could you use your son as a shield?"

Shen Yuan just rolled his eyes. Of course, he knew. Chairman Mao made it obvious by terrorizing his dog.

’You interrupted a couple’s quality time. What made you think you could get away with it? Now, rot with your suppressed anger,’ Shen Yuan said in his mind like a villain.
