Marvel: Master Of Role Playing
Chapter 177 – Charles’s Plan

In the comics, Onslaught was originally born as the darker version of Professor X.

Later, he gradually became something more: a fusion of the professor's inner darkness and Magneto’s will.

And in this world, Onslaught’s arrival marked Charles’ final act of defiance against humanity.

All along, in his battles with LexCorp, he had suffered heavy losses due to constant intelligence disadvantages. But this time, his final gamble paid off.

He had bet that Magneto wasn’t truly dead. That LexCorp still needed something hidden in the mutant’s brain. That perhaps, just perhaps, a fragment of his old friend’s consciousness still lingered in this world.

And he was right.

Charles also knew that if humanity ever got the full story from Magneto, their ultimate target would be Cerebro. So he secretly modified the amplifier. He didn’t care about his own safety. He did everything possible to boost his psychic powers to the limit. Only then could he break through the mental barrier Reid had set up.

After that, he used everything he had left. He didn’t stop those young mutants from going to Gotham for revenge. He let them go so LexCorp’s forces would be scattered.

Even if Magneto’s brain wasn’t left unguarded, at the very least, it would keep the enemy’s attention off of it for a time.

Then Charles made himself the bait, drawing everyone’s focus to the academy. Whatever LexCorp planned to do, they would need to use the Cerebro device. And he understood—he would be their first choice.

Even if he didn’t sit in the chair himself, the modified, overloaded amplifier would destroy any other psychic who tried to use it.

In the end, his plan succeeded.

After Charles' body was destroyed, his amplified psychic energy, no longer bound by a physical form, broke through Reid’s mental barrier in an instant. It then reached into space, found Magneto’s lingering consciousness, and fused with it.

Finally, it returned to Earth. Using Rogue’s body as a vessel, Onslaught, the strongest mutant ever, was born.

……

"Now, it's your turn to scream."

Right after awakening, Onslaught turned his gaze toward the others.

William felt a chill run down his spine, but he did not give up resisting. One of the grenades strapped to him was detached by him and was thrown straight into his mouth.

"I'm not like you. I don't enjoy torturing others."

"A grenade?" Onslaught asked, unimpressed. “Is that your best shot?"

By now, William realized he might have just been a pawn of LexCorp all along. Those people were probably watching him now, grateful they had sent him to probe Charles and force out his final card.

"But I still win! Xavier, you're going to die with me!"

The future of the transformed Charles—as Onslaught—was already written. Not just LexCorp, but every government on Earth would see him as a threat. There was no way someone like him would be allowed to exist.

With that thought, William rushed at the mutant and threw his arms around him, hugging him tightly.

"I may not live to see your kind wiped out, but I know LexCorp won’t stop until you're all dead!"

Boom!

The grenade detonated within him. Blood and viscera exploded across Onslaught’s armor, but the towering mutant didn’t even flinch.

"No. Now, I have the power to change the future."

Having become Onslaught, and feeling this overwhelming power, he was completely confident.

At this moment alone, he already possessed immense psychic strength and magnetic control. And...

His eyes shifted toward Jean, who stood silently nearby.

"Looks like you're planning to fight me?"

Jean didn’t answer immediately. She raised one hand, and used telekinesis to pull the surrounding security personnel behind her.

"Instead of pointing useless weapons at someone who doesn't even care about you, why don't you contact your headquarters and get Reid here? That would be more productive."

Hearing her words, the captain of the security team gave a nod.

"Thank you."

Knowing they had no chance against the enemy, all of the guards quickly withdrew. In just moments, only Jean and Onslaught remained inside the Cerebro chamber.

"Jean, you know what Rogue's ability is."

"Of course. She absorbs life energy through physical contact. If it's a mutant, she can even steal their powers."

As she spoke, Jean’s mind was already on high alert.

Onslaught, or the man who had once been Charles Xavier, his plans were now completely clear. Maybe from the very moment Rogue had arrived at the school, she had already been marked as a backup energy source.

"But really, you think just the two of you old men combined are enough to beat me?"

While speaking, Jean's hair began to float, swaying without wind. Her body slowly lifted off the ground. Under the force of her power, the Cerebro chamber began to vibrate, and the very air seemed to tense.

But Onslaught only gave a mocking smile in return.

"Let me teach you something."

With that, he raised his right hand. The magnetic field he controlled instantly crushed Jean’s telekinesis, suppressing her power completely and returning the room to calm.

"How are you... this strong..."

"The importance of respecting your elders!"

……

Meanwhile, outside the academy, the Lexcorp security forces could feel the tremors rumbling from beneath their feet. It was obvious that two immensely powerful mutants were battling in the underground chamber.

Without wasting a second, they opened communications with headquarters and quickly reported the situation.

"There's no need to worry." On the other end of the line, Luthor's calm voice came through.

"While unexpected, this was always a possible outcome factored into the plan."

Since the time Reid realized that Professor X and Magneto had no real ideological conflict in this world, he had anticipated something like this might happen. With both of them working together, if they were ever truly cornered, the emergence of Onslaught was almost inevitable.

Even killing Magneto might not have stopped Charles from descending into his dark side and becoming Onslaught on his own.

So although the chances were slim, it wasn't enough to catch Luthor off guard.

"Aquaman is already on his way to Westchester. For now, your job is to stay alive and monitor everything that happens there. Report all intel in real time.

"Understood!"

……

At the same time, on the highway from New York to Westchester.

Logan, his clothes tattered and worn, was speeding down the road on a motorcycle he had ‘borrowed.’

A sinking feeling had been gnawing at him—something was wrong. Something had probably happened to Rogue.

That strange discomfort in his mind... he had felt it once before. It was the same sickening sensation from the last time that bald bastard had tried to enter his head.

"Damn bald freak. If anything’s happened to Rogue..."
