Chapter 483 - 483: The White-Faced Doll
The sun rose from over the horizon, and the warm glow finally reached God Island's flying fortress and scared away the darkness.
It had been a long night for most of the representatives—today was going to be the day of one of the most important weeks of their lives.
Thump! Splash! Thud!
Inside a small kitchen, Kiernan poured some water from the sink into a bottle, filled it to the brim, and twisted the cap on tightly.
"Huff…"
Kiernan took a towel from the counter and wiped the water off the bottle's exterior—then he put it inside his backpack.
"I would usually put the water bottle on the inventory, but since I want to use the bottle at some point in time, and there are probably cameras everywhere in the stadium, I have to do it like this."
He said aloud to himself, slung the backpack over his shoulder, and walked to the living room—gazing out of the window.
He was waiting for his ride to come to pick him up to go to the stadium.
"…He really left, I guess."
Kiernan thought out loud as he looked around the empty house with the Pirate Immortal completely gone.
"Maybe he used the Teleportation Ceremony? No, it didn't look like he burned anything inside the house, so he might still be in God Island.
"I hope I won't regret bringing him here, but if I hadn't, I would already be a dead, rotting corpse."
Kiernan shrugged his shoulders and looked at his clothes—he was wearing light black sweatpants and a plain white shirt.
It was something that he was going to wear till the stadium, and there he would also put on Karuza High's very own jersey of black flowers.
It was school that he was representing, after all.
"Neigh! Neigh!"
At that moment, a carriage rolled to the front door of his residence, and the driver saw Kiernan standing behind the window.
He tipped a hat to him, stepped out of the carriage, and opened the door.
"Huff… Let's go."
Kiernan opened the door, walked out, and closed it behind him.
"Welcome, Mr. Hunter. I will be taking you over to the stadium."
The driver said.
"Appreciate it."
Kiernan entered the carriage, sat on the soft-cushioned seat, and put his backpack next to him, leaning it against the side of the carriage.
Thump!
The door of the carriage closed, the driver climbed back to the driver's seat, and whipped at the backs of the horses, making them start trotting down the cobblestone road.
The wheels clattered loudly against the stones as the carriage began to pick up speed.
…
Creak—a solid steel door opened, and a man, wearing a slick white suit, kept it open with his head slightly lowered into a bow.
"This'll be your room. When the other door opens, it is time to enter the arena for the event. The room has cameras, but we won't show you changing or anything like that.
"However, be mindful of how you act."
Kiernan stepped through the open door and into the small room that had a small bench, a locker and a large mirror on the wall.
It also had a television and a couple of cameras mounted at the four corners of the room.
Thump!
The door closed, and Kiernan also heard it get locked.
'Every representative has their own room, and there are over three hundred of us. Just how big is this stadium really?'
Kiernan thought, and then put his backpack inside the locker, unzipped it, and put on his Karuza High jersey.
It looked beautiful with its black flowers.
He then took out the water bottle, untwisted the cork, and sipped on it—he then put the cork back on and put the bottle back inside.
"Hello, representative!"
Kiernan flinched and turned around—the voice surprised him—but then he saw that it was coming from the television.
A white-faced doll was on the television, smiling with its stitched-up mouth, and was also speaking in a high-pitched voice.
"…Hello?"
Kiernan said and slowly approached the mounted-to-the-wall television.
"The first event is right around the corner, but before we open the door for you, we have to decide on the event, of course!
"So, take a look at our very own—wheel of fortune!"
The white-faced doll said, and a wheel appeared on the screen—it had so many different events written down that they all looked small and crowded together.
'It looks like the doll isn't just speaking to me but every representative. I thought the events would be planned beforehand, but I guess this is fine too.'
Kiernan thought.
"Let's start the spinning!"
With a clinking noise, the wheel started spinning rapidly, and the pointy arrow on top of it began to slow down.
Clink! Clink! Clink!
It slowly slowed down… Slow… slower… slow… even slower… and then it finally came to a stop.
"Excellent! Truly excellent!"
"The first event is—Point Ball!"
The white-faced doll said with an amused laugh.
'A Point Ball? I read it as Punch Ball at first, but that would've been pretty insane with over three hundred people.'
Kiernan thought and wondered what 'Point Ball' was, as he had never heard of it before.
"You representatives will enter a large field, and there'll be one ball there—it is the point ball—and whoever is in possession of the ball will get points.
"The event will last one hour, so try to get as many points as possible! Good luck, and may the best talent win!"
The white-faced doll said, and then it disappeared from the television—the television screen turned dark.
'Wait a moment. There is only one ball, and over three hundred representatives are fighting over it? It will be a fucking mess.'
Kiernan frowned and wanted to think about a plan, but after further thinking, he realized that there was no way he could plan for it.
Everyone was just going to rush for the ball, do everything in their power to have it in their possession for a couple of seconds for points, and hope for the best.
"Most representatives will definitely be left without any points in this event. If I can get hold of that ball even for a second, it would be huge."
