Chapter 455 - 455: Fen's Abilities
Late in the evening, after the school day, Kiernan trekked down the path through a thin forest with an excited-looking Fen trotting at his side.
At that moment, the sun began to set, casting a warm orange glow over the trees, and when they arrived at a small clearing, they saw a bird perched on a rock.
It turned its beady eyes towards them, and when it saw Fen, it clearly became scared as it unfurled its wing, ready to fly away.
"Well, let's see what you can do, Fen—Howl of the Eclipse."
Fen opened his maw and let out a mighty howl that shook the very ground beneath them.
It was a sound that shouldn't have come from a small doggy like him but instead from a king lion that ruled over the land.
The bird's wings stopped moving, and it looked like it was frozen in fear. Its eyes widened as it stared at the tiny creature emitting such a powerful sound.
"Loyal Fang!"
Kiernan shouted.
"Rawr!"
Fen leaped, his claws extending, and with his maw wide open, he latched into the bird's throat and ended its life swiftly.
He then stood proudly with his prize in his mouth, and after seeing his father's nod, he let out a triumphant howl.
The bird dropped to the ground, and he started enjoying the delicious prize, eating it with satisfaction.
However, amidst eating, Fen raised his head, his eyes shrinking, and he let out a surprised howl.
[Fenrir Has Activated Guardian's Instinct!]
'What? Is there something dangerous nearby'
Kiernan frowned, walked over to Fen, and caressed his dark blue fur.
"What did you sense, Fen?"
With a sharp gaze, Fen kept staring ahead, his ears perked up and his body tensed with readiness.
Kiernan looked to where he was looking, but saw nothing except a few trees here and there with no movement from anywhere.
The branches, looking like wooden fingers, were so stiff that even the wind couldn't make them move the slightest.
The trees looked so dead that there were no leaves on any of them, and the ground was littered with fallen branches and twigs.
At that moment, a perked-up-eared fox dashed across the clearing, breaking the eerie silence, and seemed to head straight towards them.
It looked to be attacking.
"A fox? Fen, kill it!"
Kiernan said.
"Howl!"
Fen obeyed and lunged towards the fox. While making his move, he howled with Howl of Eclipse and made the fox stop with fear.
The fox turned scared and turned around to run away, but Fen caught it and ripped it apart with his powerful jaws.
Crack~ Snap~
After enjoying a short meal, Kiernan whistled for Fen to come back, and he did straight away, his front paws drenched in blood.
"Inventory."
Kiernan took a bottle of water from his inventory, twisted off the cap, and rinsed Fen's paws clean.
"Yip! Yip! Yip!"
Fen barked happily and wagged his tail.
Kiernan smiled, scratched it behind his ears, and then stored the water bottle back in his inventory.
At that moment, he remembered that he promised to take a picture of Fen for Aoi as she was asking for it.
He had mentioned Fen a couple of times.
'I did want to keep Fen secret from everyone, but, well, it is just a picture, and Fen looks very much like an ordinary dog.'
Kiernan shrugged his shoulders, took out his phone, and Fen hopped onto his shoulder and turned to look at the phone as if it was ready for a picture.
He moved the phone ahead, put it into selfie mode, and smiled at the camera while Fen wagged his tail, and his tongue was hanging out in excitement.
Snap!
The phone camera captured the picture, and as Kiernan looked at the picture, he quickly sent the picture over to Aoi.
"There you go~"
Kiernan pocketed the phone and looked at Fen, who was now panting with a big smile on his face.
"How would you feel about meeting Aoi? Would you like that, Fen? She said to me that she loves dogs."
"Yip! Yip!"
Fen barked in excitement and wagged his tail vigorously.
"I'll take that as yes."
Kiernan stood up, patted the dirt off his trousers, and started heading out of the forest, as it was getting so late that it was soon impossible to navigate through the forest.
He didn't want to stay for so long that he wouldn't be able to look ahead and might accidentally trip in the darkness.
…
Flying amidst the bright light of the glorious moon, a white-winged pigeon landed at the windowsill of Bella's room.
"Ah!"
Bella ran over, took the piece of paper from its leg, and quickly read through the message.
When she reached the end, there was a giant smile on her beautiful face that didn't seem to go away.
"My baby boy is engaged, oh my~"
She twirled, her beautiful dress flowing gracefully around her, and she got seated at her desk.
With excitement in her eyes, she already started to plan the wedding, and while she couldn't get a wedding of her dreams, she was determined to make sure her son had the perfect day.
"Mm~"
She bopped her head side-to-side, making her beautiful black hair dance behind her like black curtains in the wind.
With a pencil in hand, she drew all kinds of wedding venues on the paper, her mind already racing with ideas.
Knock~ Knock~
At that moment, someone knocked on the door, and it opened.
"My pigeon has arrived, I see~"
Nevaeh walked in after closing the door and walked to the desk, wondering what Bella was doing, but was surprised to see her drawing some wedding dresses and an venue.
"Sister, what are you doing?"
She asked curiously.
"Not telling~ All I can say is that I received some great news from my son~"
"Great news…?"
Nevaeh frowned and looked at the wedding stuff.
Slowly, her eyes widened in surprise, and with a shaking voice, she asked.
"D-don't tell me he is…"
"Mm~ Not telling!"
Nevaeh facepalmed and said with a tired sigh.
"When did that happen? He really is your son. Such a reckless pair of mother and son…"
