Chapter 301: Chapter 272: Match Analysis, Reasons to Return to the Country
On the projected screen, two figures were fighting inside an octagonal cage, it was the match between Wu Li and Dan Hu.
The somewhat dimly lit room contained two people sitting in bamboo chairs, watching the projection in front of them. A small tea table was placed in between them, adorned with delicate tea sets.
One of them was a woman with willow leaf eyebrows and phoenix eyes, she was Li Tongyun.
Next to her sat a man, straight-backed. His face was indistinguishable in the dim room, but one could vaguely make out his burly physique.
The man picked up the teacup beside him, sipping tea while making comments.
"Three Body Formation starts, Xingyi, huh... Tiger Hugging Head, hmm..."
"... Bagua, not sneaky enough; what’s this, Big Stone Breaking Hand? Just relying on raw strength, but it captures some essence."
"... Tai Chi, good Listening Skill, borrowing force with Hua Jin, that works too... Oh, stepping forward to Block and Grapple, that’s borrowing from Xingyi’s Cannon Fist Power, driven by the Horse Form, quite intriguing."
After another sip of tea, the man didn’t put down his cup, continuing to comment with interest on Wu Li’s match, his voice resonant and rich.
Li Tongyun glanced at him, not saying a word.
In fact, any insider who knew Kung Fu and had seen Wu Li in action had to admit that his skills truly deserved the title of master. However, to outsiders, the man’s comments might appear arrogant and condescending.
But Li Tongyun was used to it. She knew that the man beside her was highly critical, and not many could impress him. His continual remarks about Wu Li being good and interesting were actually quite rare.
In the subsequent match, Wu Li brutally dominated Dan Hu with various Martial Arts techniques. The scene was visually spectacular, yet the man only casually glanced a few times before focusing on sipping his tea.
Minutes later, Dan Hu was defeated by Wu Li, and the projection abruptly stopped.
The man put down his teacup, turned to Li Tongyun, and said, "Is he the one you plan to sign next? Not bad, definitely more interesting than the previous foreign boxers."
Li Tongyun smiled slightly, "Not necessarily, it depends on who his next opponent is. If it’s too weak, I won’t even need to make a move."
"I just can’t understand your interest in studying these people fighting in such competitions. It’s like child’s play. It’s nothing compared to coming to Longhua Association where there are plenty of masters for you to study."
Li Tongyun shook her head, her tone indifferent, "Feng Lin, to each their own."
"Ha ha ha ha!"
The man named Feng Lin burst into laughter, echoing through the room.
"Alright, to each their own. I won’t insist, but if you ever change your mind, feel free to find me."
Li Tongyun nodded, picked up the remote, and clicked a few times to replay the match between Wu Li and Dan Hu.
When it replayed to the moment Wu Li struck with Tiger Hugging Head, plunging forward, Li Tongyun paused, switched angles, then played it again at a much slower speed.
She repeatedly played it several times, each time from a different angle.
Feng Lin, initially not paying much attention, also started seeing something after watching the repeated moves of Wu Li’s Tiger Hugging Head.
"Figured something out?" Feng Lin asked.
Li Tongyun stared at the screen, "After this move, Dan Hu paused momentarily, his reaction lagged slightly. I’m looking for the reason."
Feng Lin smiled, "This move, Tiger Hugging Head, the kid has added his own understanding; yeah, there’s significant Fist Intent."
Li Tongyun was somewhat surprised, "Fist Intent?"
"Yes, Fist Intent. Those foreigners you studied before didn’t have this. That’s why I say these competitions are pointless," Feng Lin said.
Li Tongyun realized; she was a Master Level Martial Artist and of course knew about Fist Intent, but she hadn’t considered this as the fighters she had studied before had never really mastered it.
However, Feng Lin’s continued disdain for ring competitions still irked Li Tongyun. She gave him a cold look, "Feng Lin, don’t underestimate ring competitions. If it was by the rules, you’d go up there and find plenty of people in the UFC you couldn’t beat."
"Ha ha ha!" Feng Lin laughed heartily, not offended, "With gloves? This not allowed, that not permitted, why would I bother fighting? Besides, no matter how good the boxing is, I could end it with one gunshot."
Li Tongyun shook her head, not wishing to continue the conversation.
Better to end the conversation when you can’t agree.
Seeing that Li Tongyun didn’t want to talk anymore, Feng Lin stood up and headed straight for the door.
"Leaving now, remember what I said."
Li Tongyun didn’t stand up to see him off but continued to study Wu Li’s match.
In just three minutes of competition, Li Tongyun had studied for over an hour and recorded some content on her computer before she stopped and finally concluded that Wu played very smartly.
At the beginning, he seized the initiative with his best Xingyi Fist and then used Big Stone Breaking Hand and Moving Forward to Block Punches, these heavy techniques bewildered Dan Hu, completely overpowering him in terms of momentum.
During the subsequent competition, Wu continuously employed various martial arts. Though not particularly subtle, he kept Dan Hu under pressure. Indeed, those in the know could see that Dan Hu was thrown off, not just in his rhythm, but his mind was also disturbed.
Previously, Wu had been constantly switching between Xingyi, Bagua, and Tai Chi, employing each style to great effect and causing Dan Hu significant trouble, which made Dan Hu feel as if every change in Wu’s style was a trap. Thus, even if Wu’s remaining techniques were not particularly powerful, they made Dan Hu hesitate to strike back. Of course, the most critical aspect was that his confidence had been shattered.
In fact, if Dan Hu had managed to survive the first round and had some time to regroup during the break, with coaching and advice on the side, his performance in the second round would definitely have been much better. Unfortunately, Wu did not give him that chance.
Li Tongyun thought Wu fought smart not only because of his initial choices but also because he kept changing his techniques. This made it very difficult for those who wanted to analyze him through this match to do so, as Wu used more than ten different martial arts techniques in three minutes...
"After the first match turned out like this, what surprises will come next?" Li Tongyun muttered to herself as she looked at Wu’s silhouette on the projector screen.
...
Elsewhere, at the UFC headquarters in New York, Dana White was on the phone.
"Mike, we have been friends for a long time. I didn’t expect Wu’s matter to turn out this way."
"Why didn’t you just arrange a less renowned opponent for him on purpose before?"
"Hey, Mike, you guys wanted to ruin Wu’s reputation, what better way than having him lose a match?"
"Alright, Dana, I can understand, but now Wu’s reputation has grown even larger. How do you plan to handle it?"
"Mike, we’re friends, so I’ll be straightforward. This afternoon, three video streaming platforms from Hua Country reached out to us with their offers for the UFC broadcast rights in Hua Country for the next three years. One of them offered a hundred million US dollars! Mike, you should know what all this is about."
"... Dana, I get it. So, is UFC going to fully promote that guy from Hua Country now?"
"Mike, I sort of understand this situation too. That big shot just wanted to let off some steam, but nobody should let money slip by, right?"
"Haha, you’re always so clever, Dana. No wonder UFC has come this far."
"Mike, let’s go golfing sometime. My skills have improved a lot lately, and I need to find a chance to beat you."
"Haha, alright, it’s a deal."
...
Dana White hung up the phone and rubbed his temples before making another call.
"William, he still won’t meet with you?"
William was also frustrated. With his status in the industry, when had he ever had to actively beg someone to sign a contract? Yet, this time he had taken the initiative, and the other party still wasn’t interested.
"He won the first match so easily; he probably feels even less need to sign with me now. Unless he faces some losses, he might change his mind," William said.
"No, it would be best if he keeps winning for now."
"Then I won’t be able to get him to sign."
"Forget it, I’ll talk to him personally."
Dana White hung up and called his secretary Tom into the office, "Go contact Wu and ask when he can meet."
Tom nodded and left. A little while later, he returned to the office with a puzzled expression, hesitating to speak.
Dana White frowned, "What’s wrong?"
Tom: "Wu has gone back to his country."
Dana White was surprised, "Didn’t I tell you to inform him that I needed to see him regarding something important? How could he suddenly return to his country?"
Tom: "Wu said he also had something very important to deal with back home."
"What is it?"
Dana White was somewhat angered. Could any matter be more important than a business dealing worth hundreds of millions of dollars here?
Tom hesitatively spoke slowly, "Wu said he needed to go back for his final school exams."
Dana White: "???"
