Chapter 210: Chapter 188: I Don’t Like This Score
"Begin!"
Bang!
As Danny’s words fell, a heavy striking sound erupted, shaking the testing equipment—It was Xiaoze Wutian delivering a Jab onto the device.
Such a heavy punch!
The onlookers were surprised by Xiaoze Wutian’s display, not expecting such strength from his seemingly frail frame.
Without any surprise, the power column displayed a 1.5.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
And Xiaoze Wutian’s performance had just begun; he continuously hammered his fists into the device in front of him.
1.5, 1.5, 1.5...
Each time, the power score was 1.5, which in itself was nothing special, as many on site could achieve it. But what was key, was that Xiaoze Wutian was punching quickly, without missing a beat so far.
The next second, five lights lit up simultaneously, the most difficult part—none of the previous contestants had managed to strike accurately five times within two seconds, as two of those had to be kicks.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Three punches and two kicks, Xiaoze Wutian completed them in the blink of an eye.
Everyone noticed that after his right leg kicked out, he didn’t retract it, but instead, performed a double kick in mid-air.
All five power scores were 1.5!
For other contestants to achieve a power score of 1.5, they needed to stabilize their stance and exert power with relatively large movements. But there was Xiaoze Wutian, standing on one foot, not even retracting his second kick to gather strength, executing continuous kicks with speed and minimal movement—and still managing to hit a power score of 1.5. This made the expressions of the contestants on site turn grave.
These individuals were all seasoned martial arts experts, understanding the immense threat of such instantaneous explosive power in a match.
If Xiaoze Wutian’s first kick were dodged or blocked, he wouldn’t need to retract his leg at all; he could immediately strike again with the second kick, with enough power and speed to pose a significant threat.
Bang! Bang!...
Xiaoze Wutian struck furiously with punches and kicks, maintaining a power score of 1.5 with each hit, having not missed any points so far.
Finally, at the 46-second mark, when the third set of five lights lit up, Xiaoze Wutian missed a point.
"Phew!"
Many in the audience internally breathed a sigh of relief. His performance had been astonishing up to now, but finally, he started to miss points, reassuring them that Xiaoze Wutian was still within human limits.
Continuously striking with speed puts a huge strain on the muscles, especially while maintaining strong power—toward the end, the strain increases.
In the last several seconds, Xiaoze Wutian missed 9 points, but his power score each time was still 1.5, indicating that his initial punching power was actually well beyond 1.5. So even though his power diminished, the score did not drop.
Ding! The bell rang, marking one minute.
Xiaoze Wutian stopped and looked at the scoreboard:
Speed Score: 91, Power Score: 136.5, Total Score: 227.5!
"Very good!" Danny clapped, "This equipment we recently developed has a perfect score of 250. We’ve had many UFC fighters test it, and very few have reached over 200 points, excellent!"
"Thank you." Xiaoze Wutian smiled and nodded shyly.
If he had not struck with full force at the start and just maintained his striking power at exactly 1.5, would he have faced less muscle strain toward the end? Could he possibly have achieved a perfect score?
At this moment, many were pondering this issue, as it was evident Xiaoze Wutian’s initial punching power exceeded 1.5, and now it seemed somewhat wasteful.
"Tell everyone your name?" Danny handed the microphone to Xiaoze Wutian.
"Xiaoze Wutian, from Japan," Xiaoze Wutian said in English.
"Great, Xiaoze Wutian, you may go upstairs now." Danny gestured to the side.
"Thank you." Xiaoze Wutian walked past Danny, ascended the stairs, and disappeared from view, becoming the first contestant to reach the upper level.
"Who’s next to challenge?" Danny asked.
"Wu Li up!"
"Anchor up, beat little RB!"
"Wu Li, bring back a higher score!"
"Exactly, can’t lose to little RB!"
...
The viewers in the live stream were excited, all urging Wu Li to go up.
Chen Gang conveyed everyone’s wishes to Wu Li, who smiled and said, "Okay."
He walked forward but someone was already testing, so he had to wait another minute.
A minute later, the tester scored a total of 118 points—just shy of the passing score of 120—he shook his head in disappointment and stepped back, planning to rest before trying again.
Wu Li stepped forward and stood in front of the testing machine with a calm expression.
"Start!"
Bang!
Wu Li threw a punch. The display screen showed a power score of 1.5. However, judging from the sound and the vibration of the test machine, this punch was clearly not as heavy as Xiaoze Wutian’s initial punches.
Bang! Bang!
Then came the second punch, the third punch... When five lights lit up at the same time, Wu Li instantly threw three punches and two kicks, securing all five points without missing any, impressing many spectators.
Bang! Bang! ...
Thirty seconds passed and Wu Li hadn’t missed a single point, with each punch consistently scoring 1.5.
Forty seconds, no point missed.
Forty-five seconds, no point missed.
Wu Li’s expression and breathing were steady, showing no signs of fatigue—it seemed he could keep going until the end.
Could it be a perfect score?
On the second floor, as soon as Xiaoze Wutian arrived, staff guided him to rest on a sofa nearby. In front of him, a large TV screen displayed the ongoing competition below.
When Xiaoze Wutian saw that Wu Li hadn’t missed any points up to the forty-sixth second, he raised an eyebrow.
He actually recognized Wu Li because he had seen the promotional video for TUF before. Wu Li was the highlight of the final promotion, standing central in the official poster, which somewhat annoyed Xiaoze Wutian who was usually the center of attention. Seeing Wu Li potentially getting a perfect score only increased his displeasure, though he mostly felt disdain.
"Is that all the power he has?"
If he hadn’t gone all out in those forty-plus seconds, he could have easily scored a perfect as well. So, he felt very dismissive of the power Wu Li was showing.
"That’s good, his power isn’t that great, he’s just fast."
The other competitors watched Wu Li approaching a perfect score and consoled themselves.
Fifty-eight seconds, the last two lights lit up. Wu Li just needed to complete the last two punches to achieve a perfect score.
Just when everyone thought Wu Li would easily finish those two punches, he suddenly paused.
At fifty-nine seconds, Wu Li raised his right hand high and chopped down, striking the middle target in the first row.
Bang! A sound louder than any before, even Xiaoze Wutian hadn’t made such a sound.
Boom! Followed by another loud noise, the machine in front of Wu Li was actually knocked over.
...
Silence filled the room.
Danny’s mouth gaped open at the scene. The testing machine was designed with a slight incline, supported by a stand on the ground to prevent it from being knocked over by fighters. Wu Li’s last punch had shattered the stand...
Perhaps, due to the constant force exerted by the previous fighters, the stand had already been compromised, or perhaps it was because Wu Li’s last punch wasn’t a Straight Punch but a Splitting Fist aimed downward, making the stand more susceptible to breaking. Regardless, the power Wu Li unleashed in that final punch was astonishing.
Danny quickly asked the staff to repair the machine while he approached Wu Li.
"That was insane. Why did you do that? You could have had a perfect score."
Wu Li’s final score was 247.5; he missed one target and lost 2.5 points.
"Because a perfect score is 250." Wu Li said, smiling and speaking in Chinese.
Danny didn’t understand Chinese, so an interpreter from the Seeking Martial Arts program hurriedly translated using the microphone.
"So what?" Danny asked, puzzled.
"I don’t like that score."
Wu Li said such.
