Chapter 198: Chapter 178: Like a Dragon
Wu Li executed Horse Form Cannon with a punch aimed at the center line, his fist barreling toward Hu Shan’s chest. Hu Shan, meanwhile, pinched his left hand, his tendons and bones crackling as they formed a crane’s beak, pecking swiftly toward the elbow joint of Wu Li.
This peck was so fast it almost left an afterimage, and had it connected, Wu Li would have immediately suffered broken bones and torn tendons!
Hu Shan did not expect to hit Wu Li with this single move; his aim was to force Wu Li to change his attack or dodge it.
Wu Li’s Horse Form Cannon, upright and forthright, was at the peak of its momentum, and any change in move or attempt at evasion would inevitably weaken this force.
Both Wu Li’s fist intent and the Xingyi Fist technique he employed placed great emphasis on momentum, making them extremely compatible. Consequently, Hu Shan’s first objective was to undermine his opponent’s momentum.
Faced with Hu Shan’s Crane Form pecking hand, Wu Li did not dodge. Instead, he twisted his right arm suddenly, turning it over. His punch instantly gained a spiraling force. What was originally Cannon Fist was now augmented with the drilling force of Drilling Fist, like a Big Spear suddenly shaken and thrust forward, rotating and stabbing outward.
Crack! Hu Shan’s Crane hand, originally targeting Wu Li’s elbow joint, struck the other side of his arm instead due to Wu Li’s sudden arm reversal. It was as if it hit a rapidly spinning diamond drill, with the impact’s force dispersed substantially by the spiraling power of Wu Li’s arm, no longer focused. With Wu Li’s cultivation of the Golden Bell Shield, even avoiding the joint, the strike did little more than cause a swollen redness on his arm, which quickly dissipated.
Wu Li’s Cannon Fist, now enhanced with the forward spiraling force of Drilling Fist, accelerated suddenly, making it akin to a Big Spear thrusting straight at Hu Shan’s solar plexus.
After his unsuccessful strike, Hu Shan immediately switched his force. He quickly lowered his head and bent forward, body hunching like a large shrimp.
Wu Li’s fist had just grazed Hu Shan’s chest clothing when he already withdrew, stepping back, using his spine to power his body backward, his shoulder blades protruding high, swinging from side to side like a White Crane flapping its wings. A series of explosive cracks emanated from his back as he slid backward in a swift motion.
Shrimp Bow Retreat, a survival technique from the Shaolin Fist repertoire, was serendipitously learnt by Hu Shan. He had altered its issuing power, incorporating the back force technique of the White Crane Sect, transforming it into a Killing Move for evading within his killing fist repertoire.
When Wu Li and Hu Shan’s disciple Liu Qi had sparred, the latter had used this technique in front of Wu Li, though not as swiftly or agilely as Hu Shan was now.
Both competitors made a move, Hu Shan hitting Wu Li’s arm and Wu Li’s fist grazing Hu Shan’s chest, yet neither managed to inflict injury on the other.
Wu Li’s punch missed, so he continued to advance, stepping forward with another Horse Form Cannon. A step, a cannon blast—Horse Form Chain!
A fierce light flickered in Hu Shan’s eyes as his legs bent inward adopting a Yong Chun "Pin Sun" character "Yee" Horse stance. Then, he surged upward, with power rising from his foot, up through the ankle, knee, waist, and to his shoulder blades. His shoulder blades first protruded high then snapped back forcefully, tendons and bones shifting with a hissing sound akin to crane calls.
Then his right arm swung out horizontally, the air exploding around as it whipped through the air toward Wu Li’s wrist, intent on forcefully intercepting his punch.
Crane cries in the wind, whip strikes severing the flow!
Hu Shan’s move was a personal creation, melding the power issuing of the White Crane Sect with the techniques of Long Arm Fist; its execution carried the sound of a crane, capturing the conception of an ancient general, commanding his soldiers to throw their whips into the river in an attempt to force a divide in the very waters.
Severing a river required the force of thousands of horses and soldiers, yet Hu Shan alone intended to bring this immense momentum with a single move!
What he aimed to sever was the unstoppable fist intent of Wu Li’s Horse Form Chain.
Facing Hu Shan’s Whip Hand, Wu Li still did not evade but instead instantly powered through his stance, rising and dipping his body to extend his punch by an inch. It was as if he were mounted on a warhorse, facing an enemy’s incoming steel whip while carrying him forth in a leap, striving to stab the enemy first with his spear.
The air tore asunder, and their right arms collided.
Bang! Centered on the collision point of their arms, the surrounding rainwater was scattered by the immense force, bursting into a spray in the air.
Because Wu Li’s arm had extended an inch forward, Hu Shan’s strike did not hit his wrist but his arm instead, while Wu Li’s fist connected with Hu Shan’s chest. However, since it also met Hu Shan’s Whip Hand, most of the punch’s power was deflected.
With his chest taking a blow, Hu Shan’s body bent backward, his back arching, and spine shaking. He assumed the Golden Chicken Stance on his left foot, while his right swung out suddenly, kicking forward.
Yong Chun, Supporting Chicken Foot!
It was the same Yong Chun Killing Move utilized by Huang Wei, but in Hu Shan’s hands, it was modified with the power issuing of Long Arm Fist, giving it the added impression of a whip-like strike, transferring the hand technique of Long Arm to the leg.
After the modification, the Killing Move lost the stealthy power issuance once inherent to the Yong Chun Supporting Chicken Foot, but gained in explosiveness, greater strength, and more substantial momentum.
Hu Shan did not aim to surprise Wu Li with this move since Wu Li had mastered the fist intent and made surprise attacks exceedingly difficult. Instead, this kick was to prevent Wu Li’s Horse Form Chain from continuing its forward momentum.
From the start, Hu Shan’s tactical approach was to disrupt Wu Li’s offensive and impede his fist intent.
As the saying goes, the force is strongest at first—then weakens, eventually depleting. If Wu Li’s fist intent could be blocked, and his momentum slightly diminished, Hu Shan was confident he could kill Wu Li within thirty moves!
